  1. I would remove the carbon for the reasons mentioned by suphew.

We have a member in Texas Caper so I don't see why we can't have a Canadian as well. Consider yourself a club member. We have to send our fees into the FNZAS shortly (just gathering the final ones now) so will make sure you are on the list.
  3. Sunday evening here as I type this. It has been raining steadily so pond has partially filled on its onw. Good news is - the bottom doesn't leak! :bounce: Will let you know when they refill it.

    Platties.

Platies can live 4 or 5 years depending on conditions. If you did not breed them yourself you have little idea how old they are when you buy them. A female platy is usually just about permanently pregnant so finding a dead one full of babies doesn't necessarily mean a lot. On the other hand, it is possible she died if one of the fry got stuck and blocked the rest from being expelled from her body. This happens sometimes.

    rocks

    Suit yourself. Either works.
  6. No. Most places in NZ don't charge for water. We have an artesian town supply

We will make you an honorary Marlborough Aquarium Club member Caper

    Quarantine tank

It needs to be big enough to house your biggest fish

    Bristlenose

Mine don't seem to care. Put food in and they will come out to eat it.
  10. TAURANGA - apply for affiliation ASAP so we have time to circulate your request and get you approved in time to be in the Year Book (which comes out in August with the next AW.

    Wood or not?

Most people put it in a fine mesh bag, or pantyhose and tuck it in a filter or behind a rock or something.

    Wood or not?

Any shell will do it MRSkz as it is calcium. The bird grit you feed hens works too.
  13. Of course 2fishy. Either subscribe to it (see the sticky at the top of the FNZAS Clubs thread) or join an affiliated club and get it free. If the newly forming Tauranga club gets its A into G and affiliate, then join them and get the magazine free.

Have you ever thought of removing the lids so the fish could play and leap from one end to the other through the empty space in between instead of having to swim around the bend?
  15. Plasters are Bandaids Caper. Water gets under them though. I know some suggest going to a farm supply store to get the full arm length plastic gloves like farmers use when having to stick their hands up cow's nether regions.
  16. We are not charged for water so no problems there. Draining it is simple as our section is right over an old river bed so water disappears very quickly.
  17. We have a big pond pump to operate the waterfall and filtration unit. They just aim the hose over the fence into the reserve next door
  18. You're breeding dwarf pencils?
  19. Today they drained the pool totally for a final seal. They will leave it until at least Sunday to cure then refill.
  20. Welcome to the fishroom Jono
  21. Your capitation is definitely in the works Rogan. Magazines were posted this morning. 8)
  22. Yes it is well known you can catch diseases from your animals - fish included. TB is a biggy and can have devastating affects. It is a different TB Caper I believe. A past Aquarium World magazine had an article about it. Having peeled my finger last week, I had it in a tank yesterday. Will keep you posted.

Cyano forms a dark or bright green mat you can pick up in quite large pieces. It indicates things are out of balance in your tank. Try keeping the lights off for a week. Feed the fish very lightly. Vacuum out as much of the cyano as possible. Plant lots of fast growing plants. last resort, use Erythromycin. This is a prescription only medicine though.
  24. No, but I am sending you a birthday present
