  1. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/10207835/man-gets-four-months-snake-gets-life/ was this smuggled or acquired in NZ?
  2. These questions have gotten past me! im allowed to ask for help its been cleared lol Which of the following is NOT likely to apply to the dynamics of open populations? Choose one answer. a. organisms are highly mobile, often with complex life cycles involving multiple life history stages b. dispersal between habitat patches is common c. abundance of a subsequent generation at a site is closely linked to local production of recruits at the site d. recruitment has a large influence on the population dynamics at local sites The proponents of a proposal to build a dam argue that reduced flood-related disturbance associated with a more stable flow regime below the dam will enhance salmonid fisheries due to increased prey supplies. What could be the biggest FLAW in their logic: Choose one answer. a. disturbance quite often restricts stream productivity b. a trade-off between vulnerability to predation and vulnerability to disturbance c. salmonid recruitment is often controlled by flow regime d. dams alter downstream physic-chemical conditions Which of the following is likely to be associated with reduced strength of top-down indirect effects from predators to resources: Choose one answer. a. a predator that has strong effects on the trophic level below it b. increased trophic omnivory c. a non-consumptive interaction between predator and herbivore d. a primarily detrital-based food web What native fish species has failed to recolonise the area in the eastern North Island that was covered by ash during the Taupo eruption (186 AD)? Choose one answer. a. Cran's bully b. Longfin eel c. Inanga d. Bluegill bully Survival rates can be highly variable during different stages of a diadromous fish’s life cycle. Which of the following (that influence fish survival) do conservation/fisheries managers have the least control over? Choose one answer. a. Availability of egg-laying habitat b. Survival of larvae at sea c. Quality of upstream passage for whitebait d. Quantity of adult habitat Any help would be great thanks I have a rough idea on some of these but unsure
  3. Are they illegal/legal? did kim win her case? what is the status of them? are there still breeders in NZ for them? and go
  4. id say take a lawyer or she could be walked over
  5. :smot: :smot: :smot: someone just lock it please... you really dont have much of a clue about breeding lines and saving endangered species? why not cross the tiger with the cheater? just because something shares the same genetic line doesnt mean they can/should be crossed. White tigers and ligers have been called to be put down and prevented from breeding because they are not natural and could potentially destroy future genetic lines. species go extinct all the time, its natures way of culling species to make room for others. No specie will live for ever, eventually it will be selected and pushed out. The only thing we should make sure is that its not humans that encourage it e.g. hunting ect. As humans being one of the advanced species on the planet it doesnt give us the rite to manipulate species for our own good? when would it ever be a good idea to try and cross a tuatara and a water dragon? if it worked you would get a hybrid that may or may not survive, it may be diseased ridden or impossible to raise. Then what gives us the rite to destroy them, after all we made the decision to make them so we are responsible for them. what you will find is that members will stop posting in your threads because they are stupid, you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself :slfg:
  6. id recommend taking his dogs from him... you cant cross anything, most animals have mechanisms built in to prevent these things from happening. if you got a tuatara id actually pack my bags and leave NZ, what kind of joke is this? this thread needs to be locked and removed, its making a mockery of this board.
  7. Can a marine tank be run from a canister filter? and if so what media should be used? just looking at fish, no corals/inverts.
  8. they seem to have come up to the surface now in the fridge? is this a sign? Also can i bring them strait out or should it be gradual?
  9. Thinking of doing it mid August? what you think? wait another 2 weeks longer? I really want to bring them up lol
  10. NCEA is a joke, if you have half a brain you will fly through. Its designed so that you cant fail really with all the Unit standards and resits you get. Its a large shock moving onto uni when you get one go and they really dont care if you pass/fail. However my trick with the following topics and i was the student that did nothing for they year then kicked behind in the exams. English. Book, do it on a movie aswell e.g. lord of the rings I had a mate who did fight club three years in a row and 3 E;s Poem try something really simple and remember three quotes, one for each body Paragraphs. If you forget them, make them up? Who marks your exams 99% of the time may not have seen that poem, could be a Geography teacher that gets your exam paper. Geog/hist Learn your case studies, remember numbers/dates/times piece of cake Bio. little bit harder as generally if you don't know the term or definition you cant answer it Math Easy just answer the problem, if you cant do it wing it. just make sure you answer every question and you generally cant go wrong. NCEA is really easy and not for another 4 months so you should be fine. Generally you can learn everything you need to know in a few days but ideally not.
  11. I thought so too but couldn't put my finger on it. Its a freshwater paper i do, really interesting to see how diverse and different NZ is compared to overseas examples... Nah I did attend Waikato Uni but now go to CHCH as it has a much better science program. Stay tuned for future questions haha
  12. Ok guys who knows the answer to this question> The major cations in freshwaters include: a. Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+ b. HCO3-, Cl-, SO4-2, NO3- c. Fe3+, Mn3+, Cu3+ d. CO2, O2, H2S, N2O
  13. later generations may breed now due to the crash price, why bother for a reptile that you can get for $400 back then there was more of a reason to do it, protect the price of a $1500 reptile?
  14. Night before my exam i have a broken window, fantastic! Um anyone know the price on fixing it? it is a sliding door with 2 pains...
  15. could she have impaction? who did you buy them from? any chance they could have been sterilized? 3 years ago they where worth $1500each and it could have been to protect the price?
  16. Darwin predicted many many theorys on why things do things. In this context it could be applied to: Fish eating their matured fry to protect the new ones 1st batch stay back to help raise 2nd batch as there is not enough resources to breed there own ect
  17. sometimes can take a wee while, how long is he been like that for? I know for dragons and Leos you put them in some warm water and that helps the dry/dead skin fall off but for turtles would be difficult for they are in a warm climate already. Could try turning the temp up to 27? It wont hurt the turtle in any way even if it doesnt work. Also dont peel it, it can be tempting but it only causes more harm than good.
  18. nope but would like to after my masters someday when that elephant enclosure is complete but who knows really what i want to do. True didnt think about that, they really need some new genetic data in their blood lines so you need to get hunting for some Wild cousins or play God and do some serious out breeding and inbreeding to get them to a healthy state. This will take many many seasons and years. So when you come to sell them if you put in the amount of time invested then id hate to see the price tag that follows them. Best bet is to sell some of your stock up so more breeders can start on the process. Depending on the price id be keen to help out.
  19. Could be natural selection at work? you cant really breed this out, but improve it by out crossing it with more variation. You need to either get your hands on Wild stock or try your best to out cross as far as possible then cross them back in. Its a shame that you cant import more but guess there is to much risk with disease.
  20. I think that someone needs to keep calling the SPCA, enough complaints will see enforcement's, bad rep And loss in sales = change in attitude. Waite until the heads see loose of turnover then there will be a clash of heads
  21. and even of they where i am sure they will be subject to the new organism criteria if not a recognized specie
  22. yes same as bearded dragon, but dont think that there is that sub specie in NZ.
