  1. yes well they take a good two years to mature and females always appear to be rare. If you look at overseas prices you will pay up to $300USD or $300Pounds for mature females which will most defiantly happen here. My guess you will pay between $1500-2000 for a mature adult and those prices will stay that high.
  2. what do you think is going to happen with this price trend? is it like the Leopard Geckos where they where $1500, now crashed down to $400? what was the going price of a L46??? $700/800 but now we are seeing them for $490? obviously prices will go down when people start breeding on a more regular bases but interesting to see them cropping back up.
  3. So i have a 200 or so liter turtle tank with 2 x snake necks about 4-5cm shell size. Question: how many LPH should i run through this tank? I have a Aqua One Maxi 4F rated at 2000LPH, I have put it on its lowest setting so i dont know how much water its pumping. Can my turtles handle that type of current happily? if not how do i break the current up?
  4. they are only about 5cm shell size. The reptile bulb is brand new, id say it could be possibly the diet but im going to walk to organism now and get some calcium floats by hot house. Sadly its a 4km walk
  5. Also i wanted to point out that one have flakes coming off his shell and neck? I feed them pellets but I have switched them over to Hot House Turtle Food for the last couple of days.
  6. Well i was looking at my turtles today and i noticed something funny about there shells so i picked them up. Their shell around the edges is soft? also one in the middle of his underbelly shell has a soft spot? is this normal? anything I should be doing? the tank is 250 liters Sera D3 Reptile bulb 250 Watt serra heater Still waiting on a pump to arrive but hopefully should be Monday any ideas on what could be wrong?
  7. i feed them hot house turtle food and the occasional bug when i can catch them. the reptile bulb goes across the water as i have observed that the love to float on the surface. I am just waiting on the filter to arrive, i hope it comes on Saturday but we shall see
  8. ok point taken. question: does carbon really help keep the smell of the tank down or urban myth?
  9. Well my turtles made it onto the plane safely and are now loving there upgrade from a 60 liter to a 300 liter tank they are using every bit of the tank. I have a 300watt sera heater and a sera reptile bulb. I have just purchased a Aqua One Max 104 F at 2000 L/PH but what would you fill the filter with? Just foam as its not really biological filtration that I need as a i do weekly water changes.
  10. Ok i fly to Christchurch first thing tomorrow morning, I am flying airnz and have two baby snake neck turtles, has anyone had any issues taking them as hand luggage in a bag? Also will they be ok going through the xray machine?

  17. Well I have purchased two snake necks for 250. They came with a 2ft tank, ehim filter, double light hood with bulbs. So i think i got a pretty good deal. I plan on moving them into a 3ft tank when i get them neck week as they are only small. Question = I am moving to Christchurch in Feb, how would I get them down? also would it be better to ship the tank down or buy one when i get there? if so what does a 3ft tank go for down there? Thanks
  18. With all this talk about Aros and the prices they demand running into the thousands, it had me wondering what type of market is there for fish of this price?
  19. could even squeeze it into your lunch break maybe?
  20. also if you only produce males you will keep the price driven high, less/no females means less/no competition.
  21. yup, i guess if you ask DOC or what not you can have any NZ native specie. Being that your a zoo your not likely no be turned down.
  22. Well if anyone wants to import reptiles: Get a zoo licence Get your IHS for the reptiles you want Apply for release Three steps! how easy hahaha
  23. I also agree that smugglers need to be held accountable. However with minor consequences whats the real point? Many applications have been submitted, i have seen them for birds and reptiles however they are placed on the no no list.
