  1. I remember when they commissioned the pipeline from the Waikato river - we all had a celebratory flush to share with our friends in Auckland

I've just got my new Eheim. The adapter is universal, i.e. it takes 100-240 volts @ 50-60 Hz So you should be sweet buying one overseas
  3. Arrrgh, me too. You know how the first song you hear in the morning gets stuck in your head all day? "If you want me I'll come running, come running, come running to you." Arrrgggghhhh! Shutup brain, don't make me break out the Venga Bus to get rid of it. Hang on, that'd be worse
  4. Fungus the Bogeyman was a fav when I was a little older. The one I remember most is The Tomten and the Fox - it used to make me feel peaceful and filled me with a sort of haunted sense of wonder, if that makes sense.
  5. Do the headlights dim a little when it's idling? It could be the alternator (a little generator basically - it charges the battery and supplies current to the car) needs looking at. If it isn't putting out enough current, it shortens battery life a lot. Auto electricians are notoriously expensive though, sorry
  6. How fast would it go with no motor? :spop:
  7. Yeah, I was being conservative as I've never measured. 100 isn't bad for frontside. Dynamic soaring on the back side is where the speed is. That video is real. Quite a few guys have gone over 400mph now. This is the howl I was talking about Caryl, I don't think people make any noise after they get hit at 100, they don't move much either...
  8. OK, thanks guys. I wasn't trying to stir up the mulm or anything, just curious as it seemed odd that little ol' NZ could support two forums for fish keeping...
  9. What's the floating plant right front? The feathery roots look cool. The path would look better in white I reckon, but that's being really picky
  10. No worries. If you are in Hamilton one weekend and it's not too windy, check out the club field on Collins road. The guys like showing off stuff and answering questions. I mostly fly slope (gliders flying in the lift that rushes up steep hills and cliffs) these days. If you are ever out at Raglan and it's a SW - NW wind, check out the slope by the top right carpark (turn r at the roundabout at the top of Wainui reserve) and there's usually a few guys flying. There's nothing like the sound of a 3 meter composite glider as it howls past at 100 kph
  11. Do you fly slope, Ira? I know a couple of guys down your way that are slope heads (I'm one, too)
  12. Depends on the pilot, I've seen people get it first go, and some of my mates are still rubbish pilots after a few years. Most people start buying more planes as soon as they have mastered a trainer. I learned to fly on a Multiplex Easystar which I still fly sometimes - it's a good first plane to grow into. Hobby King do a cheaper knock-off here You can buy a plane with power system, batteries (get a few, Lipo batts are pretty cheap now) and a cheap radio all from HK. Having said that, buy the best radio you can afford up front. Otherwise you'll just end up upgrading a year or two down the track when you want smoother control and need more channels and some of the specialist control mixes. If you get a simulator it helps with learning orientation. Like when the plane is coming towards you and right and left reverse. Check out RCGroups.com or http://www.parkflyers.org.nz if you want to ask questions in an RC forum
  13. The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - the Babel fish :dead%fish I'm fairly sure there was a fish in Jaws _________/\_____ :nilly:
  14. What's the deal with the FK site? Was there some sort of falling out on this forum a while back ?
  15. Then the OP just needs to make sure there's enough buffering to prevent too big a pH swing
  16. What's your kh? If your kh is high enough, it'll help prevent ph swings. My Kh is 3 and seems stable pH wise Basically, once you know your kh, you adjust the CO2 flow to get the right drop in pH. The drop in pH tells you how much CO2 is being dissolved into the water. Have a look at this chart. If your kh was 3.0 and your pH was 7 you'd have CO2 dissolved at 8.7 ppm. For a well lit planted tank you want to aim for 30 ppm, so you'd have to increase the CO2 flow until your pH dropped to 6.4 which would give you 35 ppm Since you're going DIY, I don't think you can use a needle valve to adjust the CO2 flow, so you'll have to mess about with bottle sizing to get the right CO2 flow.
  17. There's a good chart here 600 grams of baking choc will do in a golden retriever! Nasty way to die, BTW...

They do have power adaptors, Ira, at least the 2078 does. Customs usually ping you if an imported item's worth > $400-$500 I find. Although I bought in a $4000 telescope a few years ago and only had to pay $73??? Moot now - the LFS has made me a reasonable offer Don't forget to haggle - the asking price is just a starting point...

I've been considering this as well. I can get an Eheim 3E 2078 for $910, including shipping, GST and 8 litres of media. Compare that with $960 to $1100 in NZ, and another $350 for media. Still waiting to hear if the LFS will talk turkey. I still haven't found out if the Eheim power adaptors are 110/240 or not.
  20. What was your kh before the crash?
  21. Most of the UV units in cannister filters are very underpowered - not enough watts for the flow - and are probably a waste of money.
  22. There's quite a range of T5HO 24 watt tubes out there, can anyone recommend what's best, and what's best bang for buck? This is for a planted pressurised CO2 tropical setup.
