What filter bits are you talking about gagaforfish? Shouldnt need a change after only 10 days.... Are you able to post up a photo of the tank? Are the fish looking comfortable? May just need some time to settle and the filter to do its work.

Ok this month was 270 and based on a read so average out with last months estimate we are looking at 240/month before PP dicount. Still think its pretty reasonable.

Sounds a bit high even with the price increaeses. Our last one was 210 or 185 after PP discount which isnt too bad considering its winter and we have a family of 4 but only 1 tank (120ltr tropical).

I have a similar issue albeit pretty minor but often the end tips of my amazon sword have a bit of algae crap growing on it. Interested on the informed responses

No I was actually there for quite some time - maybe 15mins - looked at the fish first and then took my daughter to look at the puppies, cats and birds before returning to the fish again. Saw 3 staff members working, 2 of which were hanging around the counter. Shop was pretty quiet actually. One staff member was assisting a customer with some fish identification and didnt seem too concerned with the nets on the floor. And hardly ran off to the forum. Saw this yesterday....posted today.

Popped in to one of my LFS yesterday as they had a buy 1 get 1 free deal and I needed to stock up on the good old rummy nose tetras. The same guy who sold you the danios in the first place? Btw, did you tell them of your issue and did you check the tank that you got them from for signs of whitespot on the other fish?

Lived on Pupuke Road in the early 80s just down from the most awesome Pupuke Aquarium so spent a bit of time there as a kid checking out the fish. First tank was actually a bowl with a paradise fish in it and then I had some mountain minnows and guppies as never liked the goldfish. Then at my school fair I bought a 2ft tank for $5 and this became my first tropical setup when I was about 10 years old. 20 years on I am still in to keeping my fish but unfortunately havent had tanks setup for all of this time.

They seem to be doing ok. Both have coloured up a bit more but are still not up to their usual antics and sitting around a fair bit. Havent done any further water changes or anything. Parameters seem all good but just going for stability right now and seeing how they go. Cheers

Have not spotted any eggs or any heavier breathing. Not sure whether they are acting like breeding as havent had them breed before but am wondering if this could be what they are doing.

Yesterday one of my rams (I think the female) looked a bit down and rather dark. Spent alot of time sitting on top of the heater, then near a certain rock and then in a hole in the driftwood. Male was acting pretty normal. Late yesterday they were hanging out together very close and very bright and colourful. This morning both are looking dark and one is sitting on top of a rock and the other no where near by but chilling down on the gravel. I initially was worried the female was sick and then actually thought they may be spawning. All other fish are fine and water parameters are A OK including tempreture. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like normal breeding behaviour or possibly something else? Cheers

Agree - the name suppression isnt so much for him but his daughter and her mother. Dead against naming on here too but like many out there, I know who he is. Hell the pictures shown of him on tv were not overly blurred and I think many may have got a fair idea of who he is from that as well if they had not heard earlier. Yes the girl was 4 and he returned home drunk and it went a bit further than a simple touch but we shouldnt go in to that here anyway. Like I said, enough people know who it is. Career over for him now whether it was deliberate action or not.

That sounds a bit strange vwboy, especially if you had the old filter still running. Was the new filter actually 'new' and did you give it a good rinse out with fresh water first?

Cheers Jennifer. Did my checks again today and all coming up A OK but have done another 30% water change to be safe.

As per my previous post, I too have just introduced a new cannister filter. I did this early yesterday and transferred over all the noodles as well as some of the filter wool from the old filter. Today i did a few checks and noted amonia up to 0.2 similar to the inital poster however I havent introduced any new fish. Have done a 30% water change today and will do another tomorrow and keep an eye on things. Also have an airstone cranking away doing its thing. Oh yes, some sea salt added too. Anything else I should be looking to do? Cheers

So how do you cut down the flow without sacrificing the filteration? I have a cf1000 on a 100ltr tank which makes a fair bit of current. Have turned the spay bar in a direction where the flow is least disruptive but wondering what other methods are available? Also tried slightly shutting off one or both of the taps but this of course will decrease the filteration. Cheers
