  1. Just be aware that on slingshot, they use prioritisation. If you expect great speeds on p2p or streaming without buffering outside of the hours of 8am - 4pm mon - fri then you might be disappointed. If you are using a site like youtube for streaming, speeds will quite often be better than other ISPs as Slingshot have a heavy investment in caching technologies. Uncommon streams however may suffer. Slingshot is an excellent value for money ISP. They run forums which may give you an idea of the kind of issues people are having. If you join and do have issues, feel free to send me a PM on the forums as I am an administrator and should be able to assist or help get assistance.
  2. Yup, still early days, but I think the treats are working well. She knows exactly what they are now. Just trying to reward good behaviour to see how it works out.
  3. Well since I originally posted, we've tried the private litter box thing. She didn't really like that too much. We took it away and just started giving her treats when we saw her going to the litter box. We caught her mid act and took her to the litter box and ever since she hasn't done it again. Hopefully it's something she's starting to grow out of.
  4. Yes we did get her at 7 weeks. I guess we should have done a little more research first. We'd heard the 8 week figure, but thought 7 and a bit was close enough as she was just what we were looking for and there had been a lot of interest if we didn't want her.
  5. Thanks for all the suggestions. Just to add, we don't have any other animals (nor had we) in the house apart from fish of course. We have had her checked by the vet. They said it is probably a comfort thing, which does make sense. She's not doing it randomly, it's only when she finds a warm comfy spot next to a person.
  6. Thanks, will give that a try! Was that open top or closed?
  7. Wondering if anyone has any tips regarding kittens. We got a young kitten 4 weeks ago, now 11 weeks old. When we got her, she knew how to use a litter box and was happy doing so. The first few nights, we got her used to sleeping in a bed we got for her. In the mornings, she'd come in to our room and within 2 minutes, urinate on our bed. This happened for 3 mornings in a row so we decided we won't let her into our bedroom. She's been using the litter box all the time since. However, a few days ago, I was on a couch in the lounge watching cricket with a duvet over me and she urinated on that too. We thought it must be duvets. Today while I was just sitting on a couch, she snuggled in next to me at the opposite end to last time and urinated as well with no blankets or duvets around. Does anyone know what might cause this behavour or how we might be able to train her not to do it? I've heard that rubbing their noses in it etc doesn't work and the only way to discipline them is if you catch them in the act.
  8. Only problem with that is I believe they want the laptop and PC users to be able to use the system at the same time. Logmein would take over the PC meaning the PC user couldn't work.
  9. Absolutely. About a month ago, I got hit by a cyclist (I was in a car). Light went green for me so I went and they came through on my right thinking they had enough time to run the red before we took off. He hit the front right of my car. No damage or injury to anyone but I think it gave the cyclist a wake up call.
  10. Just thought of another VPN you could try using. I don't personally use it but I believe it's pretty easy. Hamachi https://secure.logmein.com/UK/products/hamachi2/ A lot of people use it, so I'm sure you can find plenty of articles via google to help you set up file sharing. edit: such as http://logmeinwiki.com/wiki/Hamachi:Win ... le_Sharing
  11. If you want multi user and remote access, you will need a VPN. If you are happy to kick anyone off the PC and use it remotely via the laptop, you can use a solution such as TeamViewer. There are other options as well. A VPN allows you to connect into another network remotely. It isn't the easiest thing to set up though, so this depends on your confidence level. The only reasonable free solution is OpenVPN. You set up the server software on your network and then client software on the laptop. When the laptop is away, just open the OpenVPN client and log in. Then it's just like being on the home network.
  12. I got some silver mystus catfish from my LFS (in Christchurch) a few weeks ago. They grow to about 150mm max though. Great looking fish and affordable at $15 each.
  13. It's not free software. You may be able to find a pirated copy somewhere but that is illegal. Don't use any of those sites asking for credit card details. You can no longer purchase it standalone. I believe you'd have to purchase it as part of the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional suite which isn't cheap. Open Office is a good package, but they don't have a publisher alternative.
  14. Hehe somehow my source (www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz) has gone up to 2022 now. Guess they added a bunch of smaller ones previously missed as it only says 18 for today.
  15. They should have stopped by the time you do We've just ticked over to 2002 quakes now, surely that's enough.
  16. I thought it felt larger than a 5.0. Went home (Cashmere - close-ish to the epi-centre) to check on my tanks and I've lost about 40L of water combined. Carpets are pretty wet. 350L trigon tank has shifted off it's base so I'm going to have to empty that to shift it back. Fish are all OK. Few things have fallen onto the ground in the kitchen and broken, but nothing major.
  17. Wow that riffle tank looks awesome. I've never even thought about doing a native tank before, but I'd love something like that.

Thanks. The photo did take me quite a while. Even then it's not the best. Happen to know if fish will eat them? They seem to be multiplying by the day. Any harm to eggs since they're in a tank I'm using for breeding? Edit: Also, if one was to try and collect them, would they make good food for killie fry?

Hi, I fed some fish some JBL dried daphnia about a week ago and I've noticed a whole bunch of these guys now swimming in the tank. They're tiny ~1mm in length at most. I'm wondering if they're Cyclops Copepod's. If they are, are they safe? I've now got some gold gardneri killies in the tank trying to breed them. This is the best photo I could get of one, took a while. There is a fibre from a synthetic wool spawning mop next to it for size comparison.
  20. My LFS said that Furan-2 would have the best results if it was possible to recover from. After reading a bit further, it seems most people say epsom salt baths are the best. I just didn't want to give up on him if there was a possibility of saving him. He's the male I've been using to breed with.
  21. Hi, I've got a male gold gardneri killie that developed what I believe is dropsy on Saturday. He has been happy, swimming well, wanting to eat etc. Hasn't lost his colours but has got the pineconing effect all over. I've just finished a full treatment of furan-2 but he hasn't changed at all. Still seems very happy. Could it be something else? Would there be a better treatment? I'd rather not lose him if I can avoid it. He's the male I've had in a breeding tank which I've just got some fry from.
  22. Orcon has a pretty good rep for decent speeds. I'm not with them personally but they are one of the ISPs I would seriously consider.
  23. I'm just starting to get into Killies and now and am the newest member of the NZKA. I have some blue and gold gardneri's and some golden panchax. I did get some from HFF when I was last in Auckland however they didn't survive long after the plane trip home. I think my mistake may have been putting them in the community tanks straight away. Next time I'll try with transition tanks. I'm looking to breed them but also have some as display fish for my large community tanks. Currently I have my gold gardneri's breeding using a spawning mop in a tank. Managing to collect a lot of eggs but not sure if they're developing. Does anyone have any tips on how to get best results and what I should be looking out for? I have a trio in the tank along with a black synthetic mop. Feeding them a mixture of live foods and dried. Initially I didn't have any peat handy so I tried a water bath but a lot of the eggs have gone white. Does this mean they're no good? I've now got some peat and will be putting the next batch of eggs in that. How long should they be in the peat for? Any suggestions of additional species and place to get them from? Ideally I'd like something reasonably colourful but not too agressive so they can go in display tanks along with tetras, harlequins, cories etc. I'll also be in Auckland on the 13th / 14th October and able to bring fish back on the plane if that is a possibility - will do things differently this time with transition tanks.
  24. They can do it, just they have to make a lot of changes. Just like with big time. It was easier for them to just cancel the plan.
