Most dual SIM phones will only operate using one or the other. Some require a restart to switch, some can turn off the cell functions while the phone is running and make the switch then. I have heard of 1 phone that allows both to operate at the same time. Can't remember what model it is though. Either way, you're probably going to spend more money on such a device than you would picking a single provider and living with slightly higher charges for one aspect. I guess the real exception is if you're doing it to take advantage of on-net deals that other people you know use.

I use DIY CO2 and have a stock standard air check valve on it. That was to prevent water from being sucked back down the piping (doubt it would happen anyway). I also use 2 cheap plastic bottles with nozzles with the bottoms cut off and then sealed to each other. I was looking for syringes but couldn't find them. The purpose is to make a wide area in the tube so I can catch the yeast / sugar mixture in case it ever escaped down the tube. Hasn't happened to me yet though. I put an airstone in my canister filter intake to introduce the CO2 into the water.

For someone only really interested in fish, is it worth going? It would be my partner and I so we're looking at $24 to get in.

I was browsing thinkgeek.com this morning and came across a fish training school kit. It allows you to train up your goldfish to do tricks. Has anyone tried doing anything like this? Has anyone done it with fish other than goldfish? Thinkgeek page: http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/science/adca/ Youtube video:

I found some lead solder can I use this to anchor my plants?

If you don't have a good substrate for the plants to root into then you may need to use lead to hold the plants down. Personally I use a thick layer of gravel and let them establish themselves. -

As cricketman said, lead solder certainly isn't just lead. It will most likely be 63% tin, 37% lead or something pretty close to that. Also, as cricketman said, it may or may not contain flux. Flux is an acid that is actually used to clean the surfaces, not to help melting. That's a common misconception. You will need a whole lot of solder to weigh down those plants. Probably more than $5 worth for the equivalent from a pet store for lead strips. I personally wouldn't be putting solder in my tank. -
Exactly what I wanted to hear. However, I don't know what kind of killies are available in NZ. I'd love something with a bit of colour, or pairs I could breed from. Anyone here able to help me out with killies? Of course I am happy to pay for decent fish
-
So I now have a spare tall hexagonal 80L tank. The surface area isn't the greatest. 45cm across opposite sides and 62cm tall. I run a fluval 204 on it with decent media (thinking of also adding some purigen as well). It's had plenty of fish in it in the past and I have left everything running after I took out the last of the fish that were in it so shouldn't need cycling (but I can test anyway). I would really like to get into killies but not sure if any would be suitable for this kind of tank. Alternatively, maybe I could get some breeding of some sort going in it. Any ideas? I'd like something different to the fish in my signature.

hehe I just tried out all the different ones. Actually do get quite a range of results depending on the combination of words and how many other characters are used (such as ",'- etc). Best effort was on the test instructions. That one was really easy for me to do for some reason. Net Speed: 85 WPM (words/minute) Accuracy: 100% Gross Speed: 85 WPM (words/minute)
-
Net Speed: 68 WPM (words/minute) Accuracy: 98% Gross Speed: 69 WPM (words/minute) Interesting to see the trade off between speed and accuracy though. Tried it again to do it without correcting anything but I just couldn't stop myself from automatically hitting the backspace

Hehe I'm the opposite. I go to those kind of events to see what big ticket items I should be looking at. This year I was quite disappointed. However, I now have about $100k worth of product to investigate for the next financial year You could definitely tell that the majority of people were interested in the smb / home user products though. The stands for the bigger ticket items had less people around them (good for me) and the seminars for products from Dlink were full whereas NetApp was empty. The Datastor forum is a much better event for big ticket items.

I also think there were less exhibitors. They also had cheaper stuff on display rather than the flashy stuff no one has enough money to buy. I guess it's a sign of the recession though. Trying to get sales of things people might want to buy. I haven't managed to win any prizes in the years I have attended ... no fair As far as the name goes, I'm pretty sure the Micro isn't to do with Microsoft. Ingram Micro (formerly TechPac in NZ) is I think the worlds largest IT hardware distributor. They're certainly NZ's largest wholesaler. They have a large base of specialist staff and stock or can get almost any IT related brand you can think of.

I didn't win anything Although I did find it kinda amusing when Caryl won a bag of lollies

They can always reduce the bandwidth pool until the speeds are utterly pathetic
-
Indeed. 9am - 5pm is peak for their business customers. 4pm - 11pm is peak for residential. However, there are people that go on a bit later than that, especially gamers. If you are after the high volumes of data though, there's nothing wrong with 7 hours of full speed. That's still a good chunk of data. For me it would equate to about 50GB of data I could download per night.
-
You're not meant to be able to do that. You were really lucky to have it transferred. They're meant to be giving notice to the go large customers that they will be moving them to the big time plan. From what I've heard from a few different sources, the bandwidth pool for big time won't be growing at the same rate as new customers are signed on. In other words, the more customers on it, the slower the average speeds will be. However, in saying that, I know people on it that are doing hundreds of GBs already. The way big time works is that all the people on the Telecom plans that have data caps get first dibs on the bandwidth. Whatever is left over is given to the big time customers. If you're considering switching to it, I would first ask the question why. If you are wanting a whole lot of data for a low price and don't mind a slower experience, it's a great plan. If you want it but don't use a lot of data (say <30GB / month), there are probably other plans out there that will give you a much much better experience.

For the last 2 years, the IRD have just sent me out a letter saying they owe me money, so here is a cheque to cover it. I haven't had to do anything (and no I don't have a tax agent). I found that kinda weird, but others I know have had the same thing.

I have to agree. That's a great ad. So is the new 2 degrees mobile one with Rhys Darby. Actually makes me want to try them out when they launch. I really dislike the Cadbury ad and also the Hyundai ads with the kid driving the car.

Lucky for some! Does he need an assistant?

Organisms sell it. I got that stuff 2nd hand, but it's the same stuff as I have in my other tank which I purchased from them.

I don't / haven't had the petrol version, but I've owned a 2.5L diesel pajero and now a 2.8L turbo diesel mitsi challenger. My only piece of advice is do not buy either. The turbo on the challenger has died on me twice. They are in such high demand that it is rare to find a 2nd hand one. Getting them rebuilt or brand new will easily sink $3000. I do know someone that has a 3L petrol (non V6) challenger (same engine as the pajero's) and they no longer drive it due to the cost of constantly filling it up. I believe they were doing about 250km / week, mostly around town, but spending in the region of $70 to do so.

I've got a planted community tank with brown gravel. You can see the photos I posted here: viewtopic.php?p=426156#p426156 or http://phantom.bubbledome.net.nz/tanks/ if you are connecting from outside of NZ.

Just have to say I completely agree with the subject. Paul Henry is awesome. He says things exactly as they are. I try to watch breakfast every morning just to see what he's up to.

haha yeah, I assumed this thread was here for confusing people
