I hope this doesn't come off as being rude...but if $160 is too expensive for you (and trust me, I know what that feels like after living off $7000/year these last 3 years..) I would recommend thinking twice getting a cat at all. What will happen if in needs emergency vet treatment? Even just a vet consults and antibiotics or x-rays are relatively expensive and owners who don't think their purchase through end up giving up their cat to the SPCA. As others have said, $160 is a great price to pay for a cat who's has been checked, vaccinated, de-sexed and potentially more. With all the poor animals being put down every year, skimping out on de-sexing is just irresponsible.

You could try Scarlet Badis (Dario dario). They aren't really cichlids, but they were first thought to be!

Holy cow! My electric blue rams eggs hatched this afternoon! I so far counted over 60 wrigglers!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: AND guess what? My German blue rams are laying another batch RIGHT NOW! I'm am hopefully going to be overrun with ram fry very soon :lol: PLUS... today I bought a pair (i think) of long-finned blue rams Hopefully I can get these to spawn for me too, but if they don't pair off then I have a spare electric blue male that i can try to pair off with the 'female'. I have been blessed by the fish gods these last 2 months!

I don't think driftwood will stand a chance against calcite sand. It barely does anything in my tank which is suppose to be low pH and gH.

My best guess would Hexamita which either attacks as hole-in-the-head disease or an internal infection which causes white stringy poo. Treatment is using Metronidazole which you need to get a vet to precribe you.

So this first batch of eggs went fungasy...not sure why as there was meth blue in the tank. But i've got another batch from the electric blues at the moment which are due to hatch tomorrow so we'll see how i do! Any tips on increasing survivorship of the wrigglers? I do pretty good raising regular blue ram fry after they grow mouths but seem to have a lot die off when they are still wriggling around on the bottom

Was there some sort of super tank sale?

What kind of pumpkin do you use? I never thought it was possible to make properly without the big orange ones in north america... Can't wait to try this out! Thanks!!

Update: The little turq piggie is eating well! He/she is slowly teaching the other 2 to approach the feeding cone :bounce: I saw Inky eating some food from it a couple days ago but haven't seen the leopard eat anything yet. But I do leave some food in the cone in the morning so hopefully he/she ventures out with the other 2 for a snack when the house is empty. They haven't developed a taste for the beefheart yet though...the turq spits it out everytime! :roll: So far the tummies of the bigger 2 haven't decreased much and i haven't noticed any loss in conditioning. Had to remove the leopard danios to another tank because they would try to eat everything until they looked like they were about to pop...and then eat some more. Caused to much chaos in the tank too.

I'll have 5 ready in a few months...lol.
