  1. I'd give it a go. Either deflat the bag inside a bit so it doesn't pop, and then maybe use a bit of bubble wrap (but you can probably get on without it)?
  2. You don't have to send it in a box, but you may need to send as a 'package'...they won't roll those as they do with letter envelopes. I dont' have any experience with sending plants, but i have received a few and none ever came in an envelope...

Unless you are typing with 1 finger, then all the keys shoud be equally close to the fingers on both your hands. ...and the time you save typing short form in such posts will be more then made up with hours of editing/formating you will have to do during your next school assignment. If you really wanna save yourself some time, then just don't make pointeless posts in the first place!
  4. So when do i get my turn? lol

There is no time difference b/w the time it takes to write "a pon" vs "upon' nor "tyme" vs "time"...

    Discus Addict

    They are all so lovely!!!
  7. I'm currently battling cyano in my 10 gal. I think its because i have silica sand that doesn't get moved around enough, is exposed to too much light and not much water current. There was a post up today that said someone successfull got rid of it with a 5 day black out. I'm gonna try that first before getting antibiotics...don't wanna mess up my good bacteria or my breeding rams. BUT awesome killies man! Do they always hang out near the top like that? Aren't they good jumpers?
  8. rock salt/sea salt. You can get its cheaper at the grocery store. Just make sure it uniodized. Not sure of the dosage at the moment. I think i remember something like 1 tbs every 5-10 gallons...but that seems a bit high. May need to do a search on this forum or google. If there are any scaleless fish in the tank, make sure you half the dosage.
  9. Add some salt, Aqua plus, and/or Melafix to the tank. Increase water changes over the next couple of week to insure that water is kept super clean. Also have a look around at what could have caused the injury and either adjust or remove it.
  10. Not yet! Have to convinve MAF/Biosecurity that imported shrimp will not pose a disease threat to native ones.
  11. Unfortantely no, but several individuals have successfully acclimated Paratya curvirostris to survive at 25-26C. Jury is still out as to whether this negatively affects their lifespan. http://www.nzfreshwater.org/crustacea.html
  12. Sooooooo cute One day I will have a puffer tank! Or at least a gobie one...
  13. Very colorful tank!!! Both fish and plants are looking good :bounce:
  14. Sorry you can't tell with Fantails. There is a pied phase and black phase but males and females look the same. Pied phase has grey head, white eyebrow, brown back, yellow underparts with white and black bands across chest, black and white tail. Juveniles look a bit different from adults. Browner body, rusty-brown wing coverts, and indistinct chest markings. Black phase (mainly in South Is.) is all sooty black except white sport behind eye.

    Water Test Kits

Personally the nitrate scale in these kits always bothers me. It has an almost white colour for 0ppm, then the next one up is 20ppm (which also looks almost white) ...and you can't even tell which colour the pad has really changed into anyway! Is there not a kit that has a smaller scale? Like 0, 5, 10, 15, 20ppm, etc? When keeping fish which are sensitive to a build up of nitrate and not ever knowing when it is at 1ppm or 30pm is really frustrating. It is always recommend that nitrate be kept below 10ppm...yeah well goodluck monitoring that!
  16. Sounds you are on the right track. Goodluck, I hope your diligent monitoring pays off. If the problem doesn't go away for another week you will have to switch to an antibiotic. I mean to add an airstone with tubing attached to a pump to the container in which you have the medicated fish so that the water will be sufficiently aerated. Make sure the bubbles are not coming out too strong so that the fish have trouble swimming against the current.
  17. Finrot can be tricky to treat at times. Especially if there is a bacterial infection occuring underneath. Do you see any reddened area ahead of the white growth? If so, you may need to treat with Furan-2. I've had success using straight Wunder Methylene Blue to treat fungal tail rot before when Melafix did nothing. Haven't tried Pimafix but I suspect its fairly weak like Melafix and only useful as for very minor treament. Acriflavine may also help. Make sure you seperate the infected fish as it can spread quickly. Also add an airstone to their quarenteed container. Do daily water changes in the container as well as in the main tank for the next little while to help prevent further infection.
  18. Thanks guys I finally got the 2 big ones eating :bounce: The little turq is a piggie and gobbles down the little pellets!
  19. NOT fun. My labmate was looking at the effects of pH on a species of anemone. He had a system like that set up for the control animals. Those computers were fussy as heck! Countless times they were beeping and acting up even he figured out how to use them!
