I know about salt.. but she said "cure" . When I first asked about it I said "betta" yes I pronounced "better" .. and she said "the what??" .. then I said the blue simaese fighter fish at the end with the neons .. oh it's got cure medicine in the tank, so i don't think she used salt...

is there any ICH cure that is colourless? The reason I asked , is I was at a store last weekend and noticed a Betta covered in ICH. He was in tank full of neons. When I asked the staff member about it , she said they had "cure" in the tank. But I thought most meds coloured the water? this was still very clear and he was still in with all the neons.

I don't have any pics but it looks just like slightly cooked egg white! - slimy white opaque goo that seems to grow around the suction cups of my heaters. I noticed it in one of my tanks first and i wipe it off but it just returns ... and the BN seems to want to eat it!! but now he has a blister under one of his fins so not entirely sure he should be eating it! I set up a hospital tank and within two days it was growing on the rubber and suction cups of that too! I have another tank that is clear of this goo .. BUT the guppys are always pecking at the rubbery bits so maybe it has slime too and they're eating it. I have been meticulous with my water changes and cleaning so can anybody tell em what this is if it's safe for the fishies to eat! Seeing as it's occurring in all three thanks, and the parameters will all be slightly different, I'm not sure if they are relevant or not .. but here are the ranges accross all three tanks: pH is 7.0 - 7.4, water temp 25-28oC ammonia 0 (the hospital tank still cyclign and shows slight ammonia) Nitrates less than 40 . I don't have a nitrite test.

Yes, I've been using stresscoat for my water changes and I see you can double the dose if fish are injured. I used a double dose when my Kuhlis went up the filter. They have healed nicely.

this might seem a silly question but does Meth Blue stain fish skin of scaleless fish?? Would I need to half the dose?? That Mal green seems pretty toxic stuff , I think I'll stay away from that. I'm not that keen on the copper either. But I can use some meth blue in a Q tank so it won't stain my main tanks .. just means catching fish if I need to! I also looked at the ingredients in Furan -2 and it has meth blue in it, does it colour the water as well or is it a mild amount. Just wondering if I would have to use that in a Q tank as well or whether I could dose the whole tank. My BN definitely has a bubble under one of his pectoral fins, it seems clear and I don't know if it's bothering him or not and what it is or what to do. The only other fish in that tank is a Betta who is a bit bossy but doesn't harm the BN that I've seen. The BN was put with the Betta in the first place because he himself was tormenting the kuhli in my other tank. anyway.. this is what I have so far: Q tank tonic salt epsom salt stress coat and I plan to buy: Meth Blue maybe Acriflavine Furan-2 am I correct in thiunkign that the meth blue and acriflavine are mainly antifungal with mild antibacterial properties and the furan-2 is a broad spectrum anitbiotic? Melafix/Betta Fix.. any good? or over stated.

It has occurred to me after reading through a lot of threads on this forum that perhaps I should be better prepared for sick fish. As I don't drive much it's not always easy to make a dash to the LFS to purchase remedys so i thought it would be a good idea to have a few bits and pieces on hand or at least a list of what I need so hubby can pick something up. I have just set up a quarantine / hospital tank, and have tonic and epsom salt. What I would like to know is what is a good safe antibacterial and antifungal medicine that can also be used with Bristlenose, Betta and Kuhli Loaches. (the other fish are guppies) . I was having a look at my BN tonight and thought i could see a clear bubble/blister on the side under one pectoral fin but I couldn't get a good look before he swam under the driftwood. This got em thinking , what can I do at short notice if it is an infection . Any ideas and suggestions would be great.

is Betta : Bay-tah or Bet-tah ? I want to say Bay-tah (as in the greek letter) but I know it's probably bet-tah .. but it just doesn't sound right. ! so at home i say baytah .. at a shop i just say siamese fighter!

how tall does it need to be? Indian Fern grows really fast and I am, forever having to trim it back because it does get bushy. I used cuttings from it for my second second tank too. It can be planted or free floating. I think it grows to about 50cm. this is what it looks like, mine hasn't reached full height yet.

ooh that doesn't sound good.. I think this is what happened with my first tank years ago... I came home to find my fish all dead and the water was very warm and I felt an electrical current in it!!! I was so devastated and upset that i packed up the tank and haven't gone near fish again till recently .. so I'm like a beginner again.

a few weeks back I had to make a makeshift hospital tank from a plastic terranium , I had an airsponge filter for circulation but the heater just didn't keep it warm enough, especially overnight. Yet that SAME heater was fine in a larger glass tank.. so it may just be the plastic box not keeping the heat in?

lol at I have a BN attached to one of my pieces as well! My water is slightly yellow..I boiled it first but the water is still slightly brownish yellow ... every waterchange it gets less yellow. I have trouble keeping my pH low enough, maybe I need a bigger piece of driftwood. my PH creeps up to 7.4+ because of our high water supply.

what do we do for scaleless fish (bristlenoses, Kuhli etc) in a tank that gets whitespot? . Would be good to know in advance instead of panicking and doing the wrong thing in the future if it happens.
