how long before she bursts ? (Well overdue female guppy) :(
BikBok replied to BikBok's topic in Livebearers
aggghh silly guppy! she ate a piece of pea that was too big and it's stuck in her mouth. She's sitting on the driftwood with her mouth half open . so now what do I do? -
he may have overeaten and is constipated.. withold food for a couple of days and then give him some squashed pea. Is his scales sticking out? I think mine must have had dropsy (see photos) and I treated first with epsom salt then furan2 .. he did come right but a month later died anyway. :-( I think he ate too much which caused the dropsy but he must have had organ damage which left him weak.

i hope you're not suggesting that it's ok for 13 year olds to be having babys . They are legally under age anyway but besides that , they haven't' even finished growing themselves! .. either have a 16 year old for that matter. Very few girls under 18 have enough maturity to raise a baby well. Some are thrown into it and have no choice and they do their best, some with support , some without but it certainly should not be seen as the societal norm. I was shocked to read your comment.. no way would it be ok or normal for my 13 year old to be having a baby. I think children do well to have some responsibility for a PET but only with their parents knowledge and permission.

question.. about my own fish with a similar problem. I bought two guppys from a petshop, one died overnight and two days later noticed the other one had white fluffy stuff down one side, looked a bit bubbly too. I gave it a meth blue dip and then put it in the quarantine tank which happened to have some fry in it. The fry started trying to eat the fungus but he just kept swimming away ! a few hours later the fungus was gone and the guppy was dead! I feel terrible now. What sort of growth would would make other fish try and eat it? fungus or columnuris? anyway.. I've noticed another of the guppys is developing the same thing, and not sure how to treat it. I have put it in the quarantine tank. I'm sure the infection came from the new guppys as all the others have been fine until I introduced the new ones.

I thought I might have because I had to wear the 3D glasses over my normal glasses. This meant the 3D ones wern't flush against my face. I didn't get motion sickness but did have to close my eyes a few times in the action scenes towards the end.

how long before she bursts ? (Well overdue female guppy) :(

she gets peas once a week , along with all the other fish. They usually get two small feeds a day, but on pea day they get nothing in the morning and some peas in the late afternoon. -
that's just the vehicle to tell the story.. the story is still the same.

pocahontas and Avatar really do share a LOT in common. this was sent to me on my facebook.. it's an image of a run down of the pocahontas story .. with minor editing done to become avatar.. funny. John Smith becomes Jake Sully who arrives by ship in a new world with the ultimate goal of mining the areas resources.. the story unfolds and you can see direct parallels to the ever formulaic pocohantas http://3dvision-blog.com/wp-content/upl ... avatar.jpg

Indian fern grows super fast and easily. It can be planted or just float. It sends down roots and breaks off into more plants. Mine gets trimmed every week so it doesn't take over the tank and it even grows up out of the water. Never needed ferts with it. The fish like hanging out in it and don't eat it. even my kuhli loaches climb around in it, guppy fry hide in it and the baby whiptails also like hanging off it. A really good plant that adds a nice shade of bright green. I don't have much knowhow and haven't invested any $ into specific plant lighting but the indian fern, java fern and windelov is working for me. I just have off the shelf hooded all in one tanks.

ok, i could try and get some live food from somewhere. She certainly hasn't lost her appetite. She's quite keen on the frozen bloodworms but live makes a difference huh? -
HELP - Need to raise the PH level of my tank quickly!!
BikBok replied to s3xtcy's topic in Freshwater
yeah , don't stress out too much about the pH. I found one of my tanks had low pH (it was 6.2) and I usually aim for around 7.0. My tap water is a lot higher so I just did 20% water changes every second day and it slowly came back up again at a rate that didn't stress the fishies out. It seems to have stabilised. In my case, I think there was a build up of too much organic matter..the water changes help with that too. Perhaps the stirring up of the gravel gunk when you shifted the tank had an effect. Do you have any TLC or other bacteria supplement you can add? It might help get things into balance again after the tank shift. -
how old are you? My 13 year old daughter tried to buy a goldfish at LFS and they turned her down too. I think it's good to exclude under 16 .. but over that age is working age! 18 is certainly old enough IMO. At 18 I bought my first cockatiel with no adult about.

yes it is very pocahontas but i really enjoyed seeing it in 3D and it was a well done pocahontas lol.

Kuhli and Otto pics for Sophia It was so hard getting photographs but i managed to get some pics of one of the kuhli with the lighter coloured Otocinclus. i think oto actually looked a little bit off that day but he's since been fine and has been pooping the longest poops I've ever seen. lol ! multi coloured strings of poop that put even my old bristlenose to shame haha.

LOST COCKATIEL - please keep an eye out for her in Manukau
BikBok replied to BikBok's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
yes we're very pleased but won't be clipping her. We'll just be more vigilant with shutting the curtains when she is out. It would be cruel to clip her now after all her adventures and 3 1/2 years of being allowed to fly around our lounge. Sunny is such a strong and determined flyer that even when fully clipped she will still fly but lacks the control and ends up breaking all her tailfeathers with bad landings. So we decided to let her grow her flight feathers. Flying keeps her fit and happy so we won't take that away from her . -

***UPDATE*** FOUND *** after 5 long hard weeks we have our Sunny back! an absolute miricle and answer to prayer. Thanks so much to the kind people who found her and advertsied her. We are so grateful. Sunny is tired and hungry but happy to be back home with her people. we know it's Sunny - She is the right size, colouring, personality and smell with a faint hairline crack in her beak as sunny had. I took my photo album so we could compare but the bird responded instantly to my hubby (her favourite) and bobbed down for him with her little cluck sound. I did have a look on petsonthenet, trademe etc to see if anyone else had lost a lutino in the last couple of weeks but there weren't any listings, she has to be our Sunny! we're sure of it. (short of DNA tetsing to be 100%! - do they do that on feathers? we have some of sunnys moulted feathers) ) It's just amazing. I think she must have been with someone for most of the time and has got free again because she is in surprisingly good condition and has lost just a little weight. The people who found her had heard her outside in the morning and came out to have a look and she flew down to their head. They had an empty small aviary that they put her in, (they've had cockatiels and lorikeets previously) They commented on her flying ability - which we already knew about- she is such a strong and agile flyer. The lady was getting attached to her already but are pleased we were able to reunite I wonder where she's been all this time and what her journey entailed. She would have flown right across the water from our penisula (with winds maybe) till she reached land again, we figured about 20km across the water. And then maybe another 10km to where they were. -

Fingers crossed.. we are going to look at a bird tomorrow that sounds like it could be Sunny. I know it's a VERY long shot after almost 5 weeks but we can't not check it out. The finders described her and she has also lost a lot of weight so it could very well be her. My heart is beating faster thinking about the possibility. -
I'll try Sophia I took some last night but didn't turn out very good as the kuhlis don't like being photographed .. even if I don't use flash.. which means a darker pic in the evening! they are both so fast when they get moving! The Kuhlis and the ottos certainly don't seem to mind each other at all.

oh my "black " loves bloodworms too but goes crazy over decaps brineshrimp .. really crazy! whizzes everywhere trying to suck them off every surface. wish he would scoff the algae. Don't have enough room in that tank to get a royal , otherwise I would probably start saving my pennies.
-
yes , my whiptail is from Phil.. got it tiny and it's now full grown (2nd pic taken today, first pic he was almost grown) I actually like the colouring. He is an omnivore and prefers protein based, never seen him eat veges though I've tried him on all sorts. So much for eating my algae (as you can probably see  )
-
was it anything like this whiptail?.. sold to me as a black whiptail but it is brown.
-
oh my goodness, awesome ! what are the long extensions for anyway ? - have always wondered! I have a little "black whiptail" (still not sure of it's scientific name) and am getting another two soon.
-
lol I will stare at the tank and then stare some more before I buy. In the mean time I'm getting some little whiptails. My other one is fully grown now and he looks great but I don't want to move him from his home into the bigger tank. Will leave him be where he is happy.

i got them from a forum member. I guess I will just have to keep checking fish stores until I find some that look like mine.
