    Project AA

    Project AA Contents +From the start +Lights +CO2 --Cylinder, adaptor and regulator --Cylinder holder, diffuser, bubble counter and check valve +Substrate +Stage 1 planting +Stage 2 planting +Week 4 +Chapter 2- Jungles Edge From the start. About a week ago I started looking on TradeMe for a guppy. Then for a bristlenose. Then for a new tank. Before I knew it, I was looking at all of the international planted tanks and I caught the dreaded MTS again. I had been stalking this particular tank on TradeMe, sick of mismatched custom tanks in the past, an all in one tank, stand and hood looked pretty good. Despite the interest in the tank, I was the only one to bid and picked it up, along with a spare hood, two internal filters, a heater and various other pumps and pipes. After a crazy game of car tetris to fit it into the i30, I got this bad boy home and sorted out the parts. The tank is Masterpet or Blueplanet AA something, it's an unknown brand so I'm a bit lost but it looks good and has all the parts. The tank measures The plan for this tank is to replace the single 2ft T8 tube with a double 2ft T5HO light, get a Sunsun canister for it with lily pipes and hook up a sodastream CO2 rig. I'm really liking the fact that it comes with two hoods, gives me a bit more freedom when it comes to modifying one to suit my needs in case it all goes horribly wrong. In terms of stocking the tank, plants are the number one priority, will decide on fish later. I hope to have this tank up and running by the end of the month (dependant on school and work). Any constructive criticism, feedback and advice is welcome.
  2. The answers are based on my experience with dwarf gouramis. 1. Gourami's do not fare well if overfed. Keep intake minimal. Yes this is true, as with most anabantoids. 2. Gourami's may develop ulcers on their torso if not kept well fed. Feed several times per day Gouramis will probably get ulcers from rubbing against things or fighting. 3. Gourami's are not bothered if planted or not Gouramis will stress if there's not enough cover, be it plants or ornaments. Plants are better, the more natural the better. 4. Gourami's require heavy planting, or will become agressive Break up their line of sight or they will become aggressive. 5. Gourami's need females in groups (battle finding female dwarfs) One male to several females is recommended, as with most fish. 6. To calm agressive male dwarfs, add more males (which I did and it seems to have helped) It won't lessen the aggression, just disperse it. The best schooling type to add, something that won't nip the gouramis so harlequins or neons, etc. HTH

    I'm not upset, just confused is all. Plenty of people asked questions and expressed interest so it was strange no one else bid! Now I just have to wait for the seller to reply :nilly:

    Just won a tank on TradeMe I thought I was going to have to fight for, not a single competing bid :-?
  5. Nice tank, any chance of a FTS as it is now?
  6. Welcome! The best part of fishkeeping is setting up a new tank I reckon. Can't wait for photos!

    Let me guess, all the money's going straight into fish? That feel when you think you ate all the bikkies but found one you forgot about 8)
  9. You know you're addicted to fish when the top thing on your mind, over school, work, etc, is an aquarium on TradeMe :nilly:

    After a full day of school, off to work from 7pm-3:30am wooo :roll:
  11. I thought your fish had to be at an edible size to join that forum But seriously, that's a nice tank and a nice change from the usual on that site.
  12. I wouldn't completely fill one with noodles, got to have a pre filter in there somewhere or else the noodles would get clogged up very quickly.
  13. Personally I'd get a light timer, they're around $10-15 at Bunnings, that'll do the job Ninja'd by Ira :nilly:
  14. A few mountainesque aquariums;

    I'm guessing you're not yet doing classes you enjoy? Trust me, when you can pick your classes school gets x100 times better.

    I was thinking of a 900x400x400mm high tech on top with a 600x300x300mm in the cupboard below next to the CO2 tank. Just another dream at this stage though, got to weigh up all the options.

    What fish were you going to use? Your neons?

    You reckon? Tiger Barbs were high on my most wanted fish list when I first started fish keeping but I went the passive fish route instead. I think a high energy, high tech planted tank with a breeding/rearing tank below would be wicked. Same 8)

    Started browsing TradeMe this evening in search of a male guppy because the grey female seems to have exhausted the last of her sperm packets. Ended up getting side tracked and looking for some bottom feeders and just like that, I've been bitten by the fish bug! Anyone bred Tiger Barbs before? I feel like setting up a fish shelf :nilly:
  21. In all fairness, you did ask for our help and the general consensus is that the minimum size of the tank is all relative to the species, age and health of the fish.
