  1. Welcome! Very healthy looking tank 8)
  2. Yeah but it up bumped it almost 260 places! The idea of putting the taller plants in the foreground is interesting, creates a totally different perspective.
  3. Tiger lotus might be okay and Rotala macandra is pink, the tips of ambulia, hygro polysperma and many other stems go red under bright lights but that's about it without extra iron.

My Hydor inline heater finally arrived today. I did I test fit onto my filter pipes and it's perfect! Unfortunately there's no room for it in the cabinet so it will have to sit outside, hopefully it's still relatively well hidden.
  5. I love perspective tanks but don't think I have enough skill and experience to pull one off. The same tank ranked #280 in the 2011 IAPLC but due to a couple of adjustments it moved up to spot #21 in the 2012 contest. Rank #280 2011 IAPLC
  6. $20 tweezers are totally worth it, I've tried planting stems, hairgrass, glosso etc, with my fingers, other tweezers and aquascaping tools and the aquascaping tweezers are easily the best.
  7. Strange that it's not turning red under those lights, that should be plenty strong enough. Does Flourish have enough Iron in it?
  8. IAPLC 2012 rank #21 Georgi Chaushev BULGARIA
  9. Perfect summary right there Tell us a bit about your tank, dimensions, light type (or even better a link to the unit) and we can help out 8)
  10. Forget WPG, light depends more on the depth of the water than it does the total volume. For example, say there's 90W of light on a 30cm deep 30gal tank and 90W of light on a 60cm deep 30gal tank. The light at the bottom of the 30cm deep tank will be MUCH stronger than the 60cm deep tank. Also, I get far more light out of my 2x 24W T5HO tubes than I could ever get out of a 100W incandescent bulb. The formula for lighting is far too complex to be simplified into watts per gallon, you have to look at it on a tank by tank basis.
  11. Well there's your problem, of course a seller just wants to sell their product. You need high light and good nutrients to grow red plants, it's that simple.

  13. Coral rock will raise the pH, unsuitable unless you're keeping African cichlids really.
  14. The colour is salamander, fin type looks like delta or halfmoon, perhaps half sun or rosetail? Does appear to have elephant ears too. Hope that helps!
  15. I've never used Excel before, only DIY CO2 and starting on pressurised CO2 shortly. With most fertilisers it's common practise to wait a month before dosing, but unlike Flourish, Flourish Excel is NOT a fertiliser, it's a carbon supplement to take the place of CO2 in the aquarium. I've never heard of having to wait before using CO2, I'd think that Excel is the same. Best to listen to the experts though, perhaps someone who has used it before can comment?
  16. Welcome to the world of planted fish tanks, it's all downhill from here The Korall 60 is a really nice size for a beginner planted aquarium but creating a good sense of scale can be a bit tricky. The underwater tree has been done to death but if it's what you really want, go with Java or Xmas moss tied to the top of driftwood with cotton thread. After a while the thread will disintegrate and the moss will hold itself to the wood. Although the light is only 15W you may want to consider a liquid carbon supplement such as Flourish Excel to keep the algae away. A picture says a thousand words, post some photos! 8)

  18. Hardly a desktop tank is it? Looking good though! I hope I work in an office like that someday 8)
