  1. What would be the largest or best suited fish I could put in this tank? (850mm Long x 400mm High x 250mm Wide)
  2. If only I were in Southland... How much for shipping do you reckon?
  3. Define the rules please Zev. What fun is it if you can't mod the lighting? Is it all tanks 40L and under? Does it count if I lower the water level by about 14L?
  4. Are they growing faster than you expected?
  5. Looks like you might have to do a bit of research then BikBok, get those aquascaping techniques up to scratch http://www.plantedtank.net/articles/Aqu ... hnique/27/ http://freshaquarium.about.com/library/ ... 22203a.htm Those two articles helped me out ALOT.
  6. I believe that GBA's are just Golden Bristlenoses, a variation of the regular Bristlenose. I only own the regular brown type so I can't say for sure but I have a library book that shows them as the same species, just with different colouration. So as far as my knowledge goes, big Bristles = Male, little/no Bristles = Female. Hope that helps
  7. I competition sounds great Zev , but how many people have this tank? Perhaps a general competition for similar sized tanks? I'd go all out for a nano planted but it depends on what lights you have really. As for livestock, I'd have a Fighter, some of the smaller tetras, Otto's and/or some Cory cats. Maybe even some fancy guppies? Good luck
  8. My CO2 has been running hardcore for nearly a week, does it give fish whitespot?! I've only got a naughty Platy in there but still... I'd suggest a hospital tank for treatment, dosing in the main tank is usually a last resort.
  9. Good luck with them ADodge, Need me to take some now?
  10. I saw Fighters with fancy guppies at Animates and they seemed to be fine. Depends on the fish I guess. Now they have them all in those little Barrack things, only ever seen VT's though. How are these fish doing now ADodge?
  11. Profile or Avatar? For an Avatar (the image that shows up when posting), you need to go to User Control Panel>Profile>Edit Avatar See if this link works: ucp.php?i=profile&mode=avatar (You just beat me BikBok!)
  12. I'm not sure. Some people hear or think they hear things and think it's okay. Because they have to reason to believe otherwise, they may, in contrary to common sense, do it.

    How much space?

    Maylasian Trumpet Snails...

    How much space?

That MTS? Don't you mean THOSE MTS? Hundreds of the little (and not so little) guys in my gravel.

    How much space?

I'm not sure, I'd rather have 3 fish well looked after than try and cram more in. Is there any cleaner fish that could live in that space (or get from space to space) or am I going to have to stick to MTS?

    New Fighter Tank

Thanks Dixon. How much do you think it would be to get some small glass cut?
  17. 90cm bulbs actuallt take up more than 90cm's of space. Great choice with changing the tank dimensions and lights, it should be awesome. All you need to make is a box (I made mine out of MDF) without the bottom on it. Really great guy on trademe got my T8 (don't think he has T5) fittings and ballasts. Here's my 2ft tank (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40214). the lighthood is the box you can see in the first pic ontop of the tank.

    New Fighter Tank

My acrylic hasn't arrived yet but maybe I'll have the same problem? It's all been cut roughly to size but I need to cut out a space in a lid for the H.O.B and may need to sand(?) down some pieces to fit inside.
  19. Definately sign me up for some!
  20. I'm assuming by "85 cm H x 60 cm H x 45 cm D" you mean 85cm long, 60cm high and 45cm deep? If so, I'd extend the tank to be 91 or 92 cm long because that would fit 3 foot tubes perfectly but if thta's all space permits then I guess you'll have to comprimise. 60cm is pretty deep so you might want to consider metal halides if you want grow plants well. But if plant's aren't a huge issue then fluorescents should be okay. I've made a couple of hoods and the trick is to keep them low, nothing really tall. My latest one was made out of MDF and sits atop my 2ft tank. It measures 62cm long x 20cm wide x 5 cm tall and houses 4x 18w t8 tubes. Got the fittings off TradeMe. You could also look at using energy saver bulbs mounted in the hood but make sure you get the right colour temp, etc. Good luck.
  21. Soon I will be dividing up my 28L tank into equal partions and I would like to know what would be best. The tank is 45cm long and 25 cm high and wide. I've order three pieces of 2mm acrylic, giving me the ability to divide into four partions if need be. So... Should I divide with 2 pieces of acrylic and make 3 compartments 15x25x25cm (9.375L) each? OR Should I divide with 3 pieces of acrylic and make 4 compartments 11.25x25x25cm (7.03125L) each? Thanks
  22. Not looking into the DIY yeast method, just to try it out first? I tired it on my 27L with a CO2 bell with little success. Just hooked up a 1.25L bottle to the filter outlet in my 54L this morning (had been brewing for a day or two) and I saw instant bubbles! Super fascinating, now waiting for the long term results. The Poly, Bacopa and Hairgrass were all showing little O2 bubbles coming off them, something I've never seens before. This method is ultra-crude but it's very cheap.
  23. I'd personally go for a blue, not the most natural but looks great. I'd say test out some different sheets of coloured paper before you paint, see what you like best.
