  1. I was going to replace the bulb regardless of how old it was, how much it's been used, etc. Thanks Zev, I had seen that before but a few marine people have told me that 250w is good and 400w is overkill. Only looking at marine at this stage, it'd habe to be a long term project.
  2. I think I do Zev, from Bunnings?
  3. So the TM one is no good then?
  4. Or this? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 949569.htm
  5. Does this look any good? http://www.addlighting.co.nz/index.php? ... &Itemid=26 Do you think it's complete (ready to go) and how much do you reckon it'd be?
  6. Uh-oh. The heater was unplugged again, this time there were fish in the tank. I don't know how it keeps popping ougt but it does. The fish seem fine though, it dropped to 16 degrees. I'm planning on moving the tank today once the temp pops back up. First I'll put the fish into an icecream container and float them in another tank. Remove some water into the 12L bucket and use the 9L bucket to dispose of all water but the last 9L. Then I'll remove the drawers, push the unit along and fill it back up with the saved water and some tap water. Wait until it decloudyfies and heats up, then replace the fish. Oh, and hang the lights up while I wait :bounce:

My fishless cycle took less than two weeks...

    tank cycling

Just fishless cycle (use pure ammonia). It's worked for me so far, just do a quick google to see how it's done. And a bottle of ammonia is usually heaps cheaper than fish.

    3 foot tank

I'm not sure about the sand but they usually have very short photo periods with strong lighting and plenty of CO2 to keep alage away.

    3 foot tank

Thanks lmsmith, I've had this pair since they were unsexable but they've only spawned twice before, didn't even notice the eggs the first time.

    3 foot tank

Yush! The BN eggs hatched today, quite a few of the little fullas holding onto the driftwood, one was over by its mum but not there anymore. Luckily I noticed the eggs a few days ago, evac'ed the fish and covered the filter intake. They're so cute!
  12. Got some shelving gear yesterday and put it in the wall, almost not worth the effort. We tried to find the beams but failed msierabley several times. Finally got them in but now I need to move them tank over about a foot and a half So I'm thinking I take out the fish and float them in another tank, drain as much water as will fit into a 9ltr and 12ltr bucket, drain the rest out and dump it, take out the drawers, slide them along, replace water, wait, replace fish. That sound right?
  13. Hey! You choose to be awake P44, I merely make those wee hours a tiny bit less lonely

    hello

Hello Amos. Welcome to the FNZAS forums
  15. I'm nocturnal  Nah, I'm having an early one tonight, got to get up early tomorrow for my pamphlet run
  16. Say that you thought they were ornamental and were very disappointed that they actually worked.
  17. The only decent K bulbs I've found were the ones in a red and blue box at Bunnings, 6500k. I too made a mistake when buying bulbs, I was so ingrossed in the watts and K rating that I got screw in not beyonett sp.?
  18. I noticed that I couldn't post at midnight, very annoyed...
  19. If algae is a plant then I think so? If you want to create a blackwater tank without the peat, use those bulbs, excellent yellow glow.
  20. I thought Cool Daylight was 6500k? :-?
  21. Are you planning on moving any fish? That's quite a heavily stocked tank based on their adult sizes. The platies will get bigger than a dwarf gourami and almost as big as the Bol. Rams. I have two Bol. Rams and two Ottos in my 60x30x30 tank and don't plan on adding anything else incase the Bols breed. If the guppies are fancy then the Kribs might attack them (like my former Kribs did to my fighter (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=41125)) and so may breeding dwarf gouramis. I'm not sure what you mean about balance? Tanks usually look best with many schooling fish rather than a few feature fish. Good thing Caryl isn't an army recuiter

    Zev's big Day

Wow, that's strong The little girl between the two males in the divided tank is getting so much attention. But her and the red guy were "flirting" heaps, swimming frantically up and down the glass flaring at each other and she has some slight vertical bars. But when I moved her into his partion, he just attacked her :-? He has blown an okay bubble nest but the male on the other side has a better one.
  23. Sorry about the confusion. What I meant to say was: Is it good to have the Ballast near the sump to help with heating instead of running fans? I'd imagine it'd be a good use of the heat.
