    3 foot tank

Thank you for asking N1CK, I obviously can't keep them all, probably none at all even. If the amount in there at the moment all survive, they'll be going for cheap as. I don't plan on moving them, water looks good, no predators and they have plenty of food so I don't see why they wouldn't survive. The one in the pic is really small, maybe 10mm max total.
  2. The level of water in the tank will only drop to below the top of the pipe where the water goes in, won't it? :-?
  3. I know how you feel I have a terrible cloud of green algae sitting bang smack in the middle of some of my original hairgrass. I've tried trimming, ottos don't want it and the new runners are left alone :-?
  4. :bounce: Congrats! 40L isn't tiny but it's not huge either. One pellet shouldn't matter, the plants can handle it but don't get too sloppy. I think you're pretty well stocked right now, Ottos are bottom feeders, aren't they?
  5. Could you pop up here and drill my tank please Suphew? I've been advised against getting it drilled, it was my first choice but now is not a likely option. I've watch several vids on YouTube of guys doing it without failure but I guess they're hardly going to post the video of them stuffing up and cracking the tank though. :-?
  6. Today the tank was looking a bit neglected so I removed my fighter, scrubbed off the algae on most of the glass, removed the filter and moved the heater. Also, now one rock is lying flat and the other is gone. Water is a bit cloudy at the moment, will take more photos when the fish is back in. Before: After:

    3 foot tank

The tank is swarming with these little guys. They've only spawned twice and the max I've saved is 15 so seeing hundreds of little babies shooting back to the driftwood when I walk past is mind boggling.
  8. Those little paintball ones are no good aye? More for the nano tanks right? Are you talking $200 new HaNs?
  9. I've seen that graph before, must try and find it again. I was most certainly going to inject CO2 but I haven't yet found a decent cylinder and I'm not sure what size I need?
  10. The crack monkeys on the PT Forums. They say they run T5's for most of the time but MH's only for a little bit. But I'm guessing my Cube couldn't handle even 400w of light without getting some nasty algae?
  11. Okay, flagged the marine idea, going for my biggest planted tank yet. Really want to go down the MH route but I've heard mostly bad things about them, people can only have them on for 2 hours a day and that T5's are far better. Are T5 tubes easy to source in NZL?
  12. I'm not so much worried about the power going off as I am the whole thing leakign and not working. I need to by an alarm that alerts me when there's a power failure, where can I get or make one of these? Cricketman: Would the pump not work against the flow of the water if it was on continuously?
  13. Would this work? The idea is that there is a syphon either directly in the tank or from another box inside the tank that pulls water in this external box. The water then overflows from the first chamber to the second chamber where it then flows into the bulkhead which takes water down to the sump. Sounds like a bit of a hassle though.
  14. Maybe he wants sharks? Looking good LA, I just want to see that helicopter spinning round and round and round and round...
  15. I might cut the pipes tomorrow then, but I'm not very good with being precise :-? Now what to put in the sump  Might make it a jungle/mass plant growing centre using reverse photosynthesis to combat CO2 overdose at night. What do you think? Any other ideas?
  16. I think you were right LA . I found the thread using the same system, here it is: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/tank- ... ium-5.html This one was used in a Riparium/Paludarium setup. http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss17 ... siphon.jpg Couldn't post the second one because it was too big.
  17. I have a box full of what looks like 2cm pipes and connectors from a soccer goal kit. The pieces aren't as thick as PVC and aren't air tight but fit very well together. They won't be under much pressure and I'll silicone all the out of water joints anyways. Perfectly level?
  18. So the T joint needs to be level with or above the water level?
  19. It's Livingart, he's the Fishroom Sage. I have two young Bolivian Butterfly Rams in a 54L tank with two Otto Cats. I'd imagine them and corys would get on just fine.
  20. I was advised by a glass expert on here not to risk drilling my tank. Dimsum, are you saying that LA's one will work and the first one wont?
  21. Oh, except I'm using the boxless design from other sites. This one looks good: http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/diy-d ... ilter.html
  22. Here's the main site I'm getting it from: http://www.reefpedia.com/index.php/Z-type_Overflow_Pipe
  23. I might try it out, need a stand made first though.
