  1. $10 for the lamp plus $7 for the bulb. Two of these so $34 on lighting. Filter I grabbed from an old tank, cost me $70 new. Heater was around $25 and sand was $6 for 25L, did not need all of it. Of course you can get cheaper new or second hand filters of TradeMe but this adds up to $134.00. Plus plants and fish too. I'd recommend getting a cheaper filter off TradeMe. HTH
  2. Will price mine up tonight. $80 excluding the tank yes?
  3. I can help you with that one. I'm on one of the tightest budgets around, my planted tanks have got to be the cheapest
  4. I use regular play sand with DIY clay balls and 2x 6500k CFL's on my 60x30x30. I can post pics of it right now if you want, it's not looking its best admittedly

    Help!

That's the one 8) Cheap and reliable I've found. Maybe check out Adrienne on here for a fighter when the time comes, hers are amazing.

    Help!

Large Splish Splash being 40cm long x 27cm high x 25cm wide? If so, then yes they can house a single fighter. I have that tank and kept fighters in it before, even used it to breed them in. Goes well with a 50W aqua one heater too. HTH
  7. Cichlids, you'll need to be more specific. What species?
  8. One winner from whole country the terms and conditions said.
  9. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=43016 Maybe?
  10. As Caryl said, swordtails, platies and guppies are really hardy and easy to breed. Bristlenose catfish have to be the easiest catfish to breed, it just takes time to grow them to maturity.
  11. Not me, I did get a $10 voucher though. Not at all surprised that I didn't win though
  12. The 60x30x45cm tank is okay, but you can only stock as much as a 60x30x30cm due to the same footprint size. They're a really good medium sized tank to work with, I have two 60x30x30's. Add a 50-100W heater and you're ready to go. Fish wise I like to go with one or two "feature fish" and a handful of shoaling fish. You could have either a male Betta, a pair of dwarf cichlids OR a dwarf gourami along with a small shoal (6-10) of the smaller tetras. If you upgraded the filter and kept the shoal small, you could add a few corydoras or small bristlenose catfish to help clean up. If you want something more unique however, dwarf puffers could be another way to go but they can be a bit sensitive at times. HTH

  15. CFLs, life saver for fish keepers on a budget
  16. Yeah, I am on both too. Follow a few other aquarium forums and other forums about my other hobbies and interests. You will come to find that different forums have different populations, styles and people, some people suit certain forums better than others. HTH
  17. Wow, sounds like you have a lot going on now, sure you'll be busy for a while  Good luck!
  18. This winter, people seemed to have a nasty habit of telling me how cold it is. Yes, I am aware of the temperature, I am wearing far fewer layers than you
