  1. I am looking at making food for my betta and freezing it. I just need some advice on what to feed them and what not to feed them. I am thinking of making a chunky paste from fish or beef (raw or cooked), suds, mixed veggie, frozen blood worms and anything else people recommend. I was hoping to make a few different flavours for them e.g. red meat, fish and crab and veggie Has anyone else done this? Would it be best to use cooked or raw meat?
  2. Just to get an idea if anyone would be interested... Would anyone like us to bring a few betta fry up as a cheep sale at the next meeting? I am just trying to get an idea as to if it would be worth putting some in bags so I dont bring lots and have to take them back home but if anyone is keen we should have some available by next month
  3. We might be breading a couple of ours soon White boy with a clear strip on his tail and we have 3 girls so will have to figure out which girl to give him. We will be willing to part with a couple if you are still interested then (as always cheaper than a fish shop would sell them for)
  4. This is what we have here and their wool is really soft and warm
  5. When is the next one? Is it going to be the same place? or will you be venturing out to someone's house to check out their fish? (and bird for Phoenix 8) ) I am sorry that we missed it but will try to make the next one
  6. I got one about 2 months ago and he was this size and now is about double that if not more than double. I think he is going the be a big boy but it is a good excuse for me to buy a 6 footer I will get an updated picture to show a comparison of size over a short time
  7. The warning is because it will not stay crystal clear when in water it clouds a bit but stays strong and flexible The reason I use this is it was recommended to be by a friend that I worked with at Placemakers. He was a vet before working there
  8. Try Holdfast 202 clear it works for me when I am making dividers and holding stones/filters in place Here is the fact sheet: http://www.holdfast.co.nz/resources/pdf/products/19331_TDS.pdf
  9. You could bring me a water sample one evening and I can test it if you can not make it to your LFS
  10. I made this one from: 900mm tank - $40 on TM frosted glass from 3 part shower door - $10 from recycling centre (stripped and cut glass to fit) canister filter - $60 on TM irrigation pipe and spray nozzles - $20 form Mitre10 and a heater that was found in a box - I think $30 for LFS The water flows through the filter in to the black pipe where it is then split out to the front of the tank and dripped in. All the water goes out a small hole in the bottom (back) of each section and then in to a holding section along the back where the heater and and air stone is. There very little current because the water comes out a 3 mm hole in each section note: the big black pipe is going to be replaced by a 13mm black irrigation pipe so it is not visible
  11. I just have 2x 24W energy saver bulbs (standard light fitting $5 from M10) and lots of fish poo and some clay balls (dont know the name of them) in a 125L tank We have had amazing growth and everything is looking good

When you say you rate them are you rating them as good or bad?
  13. WOW That is a very very nice set up
  14. Sorry but I don't think you actually have thought about this. The process of killing a cow at a meat works is 1) Pack them in a truck and drive them to the works (they probably know where they are going) 2) Put them in a pen for sorting 3) Send them down a run about 10% wider than the animal 4) Put a needle in their skull and wait for them to stand still 5) Push the button to send large amounts of electricity in to the brain of the animal (this can take up to a minute) 6) Animal is now dead How is that any different to putting a fish in a bath tub 500% bigger than the fish and letting another animal kill it in a matter of seconds for food. The fish had more chance of surviving that the cow did. note: This is not a personal attack I just hate it when people say something is bad when they have not thought through what they are saying and if they look at their own life you see that they are just a guilty as the person they are accusing but they think what they are doing is different because it is more common
  15. how very hypocritical of you all, don't you all feed you pets live food? or freeze dried bloodworms and the such? ever wonder how they came to be dead? would like to say more, but as my Nana used to say, "if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all"
  16. I have to disagree with that mine love the hexi tank and enjoy playing in the current or letting the current sweep them in to the plants and lie there for a wile. I know everyone says the dont like it but mine do. In our community tank we have half the tank with current and half with sheltered with little to no current and they are always in the end with high current :-? UNLESS you are breading then they need no current and we use a foam filter
  17. It is one of many :bounce: You need to convert your shed or if you do not have one build one :bounce:
  18. Your betta night destroy the guppies tails. I would suggest you get another one for the guppies Its just a matter of time till you get more tanks (its easier to just give in to MTS)
  19. Google chrome is the best it has a built in spell checker
  20. A few updated pics and a shot or the betta barracks I have just finished (just need to fill it with fist) http://img16.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=fish008.jpg
  21. words just cant even express the anger really..... it just hurts is all I can say. we call our selves the smartest beings on earth, but no other animal does to another animal. people are the biggest problem this planet has as far as i'm concerned. a damn good smack on the butt when they'ed been bad never hurt any1 either.
  22. I am just trying to find out if my latest batch of eggs will be ok We had a small problem with the water temp. It got down to 20 overnight and as soon as we noticed we insulated the tank changed the heater. Our boy that was in there is fine and still looks happy What do people think? Will the eggs be ok?
