  1. That is what I was thinking :-? Are there differnet rules for the commercial guys?
  2. Something you also need to think about is if you will be any better of at the end of the day I was thinking about it and if you pay: $50- $70 for the filter $30-$60 for shipping (size will make it expencive) $20 for your bank to pay overseas (yes I work in a bank and that is what it costs from our end) $20 to $60US for the other bank to receive the funds (again yes they do charge that unless you make a credit card payment) and 2 hours of your time looking and arranging shipping at a cost if $15 an hour for your time That by my calculation is between $150 and $240
  3. I was meaning that I think the need to provide definitive proof before it can be disputed and by then it would unfortunately be all over. You best bet I think would be to plant some protected trees in there because then they need to be able to get consent from DOC before they can do anything
  4. I dont think the iwi would be able to make a new claim in it unless they can link it back to something important
  5. It might be safer to just go and buy some noodles from your LFS they are not expensive. We got a tub of them for $20 which was enough to do 2-3 filters
  6. P44 and Ange must have had the day off
  7. She is in Wanganui but comes over for the central fishkeepers meetings. You could PM her and ask when she coming over next

  9. I love the way that people assume that the guy at the shop must be wrong. I worked at placies (and other stores) for over 5 years and you can not expect them to know all the alternative names for a product. Yes they sell sand and yes they have white sand but no they do not have silica sand. Silica sand needs to have partucular portions of silica and a lack of polutants (iron ore ect) so they can not sell it as silica sand because it is not tested. As Aquilam_11 said ask at the trade sales counter (in the timber yard building) or ask one of the yardies they will show you what "builders sand", "plastering sand", "block laying sand", "leveling sand"...(i could keep going but I think the point has been made) they have and you can make your own decision as to what kind of sand you want.
  10. You might want to have a chat with Rox. She might have some little ones for sale soon. Check this out: http://1a.co.nz/aquarium/?p=669
  11. I think that animates are really good! I buy most of my fish from them because that have always been friendly and helpfull. It is one of the only shops that are happy to help every time I have been in. That my be because we are in there so often but they have never been anything but helpfully for me.
  12. My 2213 will not work above the tank. As p44 said they are designed to work below the tank not above it. Also the impeller will push better than it will pull so you are best to have the filter under the tank.
  13. You could increase your numbers and sell them to the pet shop. If you increase by 20% they will not use 20% more power and you can sell them at the lower price to a local shop who can have them sell and you won’t need to be concerned about storage till they do sell. That way you keep the local guys happy and you can ship the others around the country
  14. If they are quoting a manufactures 3yr guarantee make sure you get the origional proof of purchace or it means nothing to you. It might lay to ask if he can give you a copy of his recept. It is all good saying it has a manufactures 3yr guarantee but if the product if 4 years old it is not covered
  15. Bigger tank! We have a couple (including the red spot and BGK) that are my excuse to get a bigger tank
  16. I thing the reason some say submersible but must be vertical is because they have a rubber cap on the top and it might not be completely sealed. If it is not sealed it will be fine if vertical because of the air pocket but if you but it on an angle or flat you break the air pocket and allow water to flow in and cause problem. If this does not make sense try putting a cup upside down in the tank and you will see that all the air stays in there but if you lie it one the side the air escapes and the water floods in to the cup. Now imagine the same thing with a power supply in it
  17. We have 3 clowns in our 4 fotter and there are a few betta in there without any problems. We had to get the clowns because when we got the tank the sand was full of small snails. When I say full of them I am meaning I more than half filled a 1L bowel with them when I cleaned the sand (unfortunalty after it was put in the tank)
  18. Our 4 foot tank has a jebo in it and it has a tep range of about 3 degrees and the fish are fine. If anything I think a drop in temp overnight is a good thing because it is what would happen naturally. It is not normal for the fish to have a constant temp all the time. If I was you I would leave it how it is and just check the temp when you feed them to make sure it is not too hot. If you are unsure about anything you have been told at one shop go to the other and ask one of them for advice and see what they say
  19. Congrats Grant I am sure you will do a lot of good for FNZAS
  20. I said "if the staff are good" The last guy that helped me at the bank got a compliment and a box of
  21. In theory if you give: Good service someone will lett 1 or 2 people who will tell one other person. Bad service somene will 5 to 10 people who will sell 4 to 8 people who will tell 3 to 6 people and so on. It make a point of calling bak to a call center and askign for a manager to compliment someone if the do a good job or talk to the manager in a shop if their staff are good.
