  1. Those photos are fantastic! What model is your camera?
  2. Went to thailand for 6 weeks about 2 years ago. Like everyones said, so ridiculously humid that I couldnt handle being there for too long a period. We did the usual stuff, visiting the palaces etc, but the best bit for me was going on a trip to Ayutthaya. These ruins are gorgeous. We went there on a day trip, were you bused to it, and then got a trip down the river back to the city. I perfered Chiang Mai though. Not as crazy busy. Still has awesome shopping. Lots of interesting things to do in its general vicinity.

    Chemical warfare

    Eurgh, what is that?
  4. My drawing is talented no? Couldnt get a good shot of the fish, will have to try again later i think. Anywho, that pic shoes about the placement and shape of it. Guess ill just wait it out and see if any alien creatures burst forth from his side. It almost looks like someones stuck a little wad of tar on him.
  5. Just feeding the discus and noticed that one of my black widow tetras had a very intresting mark upon him. Just in between the bands running verticaly down his body is a black mass. I say mass because when i looked at him from the front it was protruding slightly. What looked like very very tiny white dots were here and there on it too.... Heres an example. Anyone ever seen anything like this on their fish? Or am i just being paranoid do you think? Mr fish is otherwise very happy.
  6. That is so many kinds of awesome.
  7. I love GSDs! We used to have one called Shumba, a name my dad came across in his travels round Africa (it means 'lion' in Shona). My aunty and uncle also have a couple, one called Layla, and the other Yogi. Ive always wanted to get one and call it Balu, like from the Jungle Book! Gotta say though, ive always perfered pet names that come from a different language.
  8. Hey there, I had this in my cardinals and rummies about 2 months ago. Found it in their eyes first (!!) and then some on the gil plate, in what appeared to be little cysts. I dosed with Adtape day on day off for a week and havnt seen them since. Hope I never do.

    Discus with worms.

Fantastic. Tank is sitting at 28 degrees, so ill knock it up to 30? I'll go dose now, how many subsiquient doses do I then do? Water changes in between? Thanks very much for this Ron, im sure you get this alot

    Discus with worms.

Cool grabbed some more adtape and the metro from vets today. Just to make doubly triply sure, its dosing with Adtape and Metro at the same time? This will be fine with my other fish? Also, with the metro, mister sulky discus isnt terribly keen on food at the mo, so how do i go about dosing the water for starters?

    Discus with worms.

Yep, I gotta say, the worms are pretty freaky looking. Less than a mm in width, all squigled along inside, not hanging out, all contained in the eye. When I had them on my cardinal it was even more disturbing, because they seem to create a little bubble around themselves wherever they are, so like on the gill plate theres a little bubble with a worm in it, and the eye swells with a little worm in it. Hey look, there on the fishes nose! A little bubble with a worm in it! I found a fantastic picture on the net somewhere a while ago but have since lost it W/c are twice weekly, maybe 30-40%. Other fish are Cardinals, Rummies, Black widows, black phantoms, a bristlenose, few ottos and a royal whiptail. 5 discus in total, 3 from petshops, 2 from breeders. Fully planted tank. Discus are on bloodworms and Tetra colour bits. Thanks guru, ill do the 15mls this time around. I have a quarantine tank, but am worried with the worms that if i just quarantine 'wormy-mcgee' that theyll just hide out in someone else. 15mls wont hurt any of my other fish? Also, with the metro used for the white poo, whats that actually a result of? I'll see if i can get a picture for you.
  13. Ok, so this has sort of been an ongoing problem for me. About 5 months ago I found some rather unatractive worms hanging out in my cardinal tetras eyes and fins(and god knows where else). I treated with Adtape, first one dose, and then another about 3 days later. All was well. I then about a month ago found that one of my discus, who had previously been very outgoing is off behind a log at the back of the tank, and low and behold, hes got some nice stringy white/translucent poo. So I go and grab some more Adtape, and try again. I havent noticed any white poop since, but nor has he gotten and livelier, and then last night I see on one of my other, more friendly discus, that HE HAS A WORM IN IS EYE. Also, i can see a very small one in a little bubble type structure on the surface of his gill plate. These are such a pain in the behind! Do I need to do a stronger dosage do you think? (currently doing 5ml for 100L). Ive heard people mention salt baths, but does this just work for surface parasites like flukes? Please help!

    ... What the?

If your not averse to it, i did a 3 day black out on my tank and that sorted it out. Mine was riddled too.

Just furthering on joilets comment. Animates do have a training system in place, one each for birds, fish, dogs, cats, small animals, but this covers the basics only, and is no substitute for experience or passion. If the staff member has no particular intrest in fish then theyre not going to be any good at helping people who do! I personally miss the days where Jansens had Fishos and Petos. People who had a real passion for fish were employed as fishos. People who had a real passion for cats and dogs and other furry/feathery pets were employed as petos. Fishos were always present down in the fish room, and if you werent a fisho and someone came up and asked you a question about fish, well then, you could say "You know, ive got just the person for you, ill go and grab one of our fishos!". Not only did it mean these guys new their stuff, but the customer, i think, felt like they were getting a real proffesional service, having someone that specialised in aquatics. And yeah, salespeople are also silly. They think not knowing the answer means that they should make it up. Everyone go into an animates store tomorrow and tell them about the fish forums!

    Babies!

I think my oto is preggnant! Theres 3 of them in my tank, all quite fat with algae, but with this one the pudgyness keeps going right down to her anal fin. Shes still going to the toilet all the time and zipping round, so im pretty sure shes not constipated. The coolest thing is when she is sitting next to the glass, you can actually see these tiny little yellow eggs, about the size of a tip of a pen, all sitting at the back. Has anyone had little otos before? How long do you think till she looks for a place to put them? Would they make good parents? I think i might have to go and get another heater etc and set up a new tank.
  19. I think the rock is slate? Not sure actually. But yeah it comes in these nice flat chunks and ive just done a retaining wall and filled it in with the gravel to make little plant beds.
  20. I think its been about 4 months now, between the before and after. The tank setup was a bargain. I got it for $180 That included tank, wooden stand, hood, buckets upon buckets of gravel, driftwood, nets, chems, fishmate fish feeder, 3 heaters, 2 air pumps and a multitude of connective bits n bobs (suckers, u bends, tubing). The real score was it came with an eheim 2213, with spare media to boot. I felt really guilty taking it off the poor lady for so measely a price! So yeah, its not a brand tank, but the stand and hood and glass were Jansens derived. Have since stained it black and added T5's for lighting. In terms of ferts, flourish seems to do the trick I liked the raised look too! I went picture hunting on google for nifty tank scapes and thought it looked pretty cool. Fish: Mr Whippy, 9 cardinal tetras, 6 rummynose, 7 black widow, 6 black phantoms, 3 ottos, and a pair of bristlenose.
  21. It started pretty boring... But finally the fish have a nice bushel of plants to swim through! Mr Whippy / Whoopi the whiptail, a local resident. Spud, an aquarium enthusiast.
  22. That twisted val looks incredible! Id always dismissed it as looking too weedy, but god that looks awesome.
  23. I got a pair of blue rams the on wednesday and today theve made a nest, with a nice little batch of eggs sitting there ready on the stones. I never thought fish breeding could be so exciting! I find myself going over to ooh and ahhh at the tiny yellow dots several times a day. When will they hatch?
  24. Ahh gotcha... Be interesting i spose to see if the sense is heightened because they just rely on pressure waves rather than sight aswell.
