  1. Thanks for that. Tank is more than fully cycled (it has been set up for over a year with cardinals in it, which are now in my main tank with the rest of them. I have a lid on the tank, and plugged up the gap where the cords go into it, and have a covering of duckweed (uugh) and riccia. Unfortunately the tank is a little Blue Planet one and I cannot get any better lighting on it to make the riccia grow and cover the top. (Duckweed came with the riccia unfortunately) So no one jumped last night, but the fish who has lost the will to live keeps playing possum in the floating plants, but swims away rapidly when I went to scoop out the 'dead' fish :-?
  2. No photos as yet - will let them settle in first Lisa
  3. After having the tank set up for an obscenely long time, I have finally got my first trio of killies :happy2: (Australe Gold) They are soo cute to watch, checking out the whole tank, and playing in the plants. Sadly, one has found a quiet corner to be in, and looks like she might not be with us in the morning. On the up side, the other two were spawning in the tank in Hollywoods just before I got them (if we did manage to capture those two?) so who knows Just wondering, what do you feed yours on? I currently have some bloodworms lined up for the morning. Lisa
  4. So pleased for you!! :nilly: Getting a good night's sleep makes everything a bit better! Long may it continue Lisa
  5. How long would you need to leave it in for? I have trumpet snails, and I only see them at night. Found hundreds of them in my 60l tank last night

    Snail Woes

I have some dwarf chain loaches in my 40l tank, and they do a great job of keeping the snail population under control. Really cute to watch too. They never bothered my fighter (from memory - fighter has gone now) but they don't touch Malaysian trumpet snails Lisa
  7. Can't help with what it might be, but I use an old credit card, pressie card etc for cleaning the glass. Hope that helps some Lisa
  8. Yes, if it were me, I would get an african tank (they still might) - I might go visit hubby at work a bit more if they did! Will let you know Lisa
  9. Hubby's work are looking at getting a marine tank in under a rental contract - does anyone know who the best people to contact? or even questions to ask? Thanks so much Lisa (sorry if this is in the wrong place!)
  10. Thanks for that. It seems all normal this morning, no flickering and keeping good temperature. A bit strange. Will keep an eye on it. Thanks heaps Lisa
  11. I just turned off the house lights tonight, and the light on my heater is flickering. I turned on the house lights again and it appears normal. The heater is in a small tank with only 3 fish in it. Should I be worried? If need-be I can put those fish into my main tank and turn off the heater. Thanks for your help Lisa
  12. I have chain loaches in my tank (similar size to yours) - they do a great job of keeping the snail population down Lisa
  13. How hot was the water you put in? Something similar happens to my newish tank when the water going in is a bit too warm.
  14. I've easily removed the filter box on mine, but I have heard it voids the warranty.
  15. I have seen it recently. I will see if I can remember where. Not sure if it would be the same brand though.
  16. When you wake in the middle of a night after a nightmare about your fish
  17. I think it's a honey. Will try and take a photo tomorrow. Thanks heaps Lisa
  18. Really I was told by HFF that it was the dorsal fin that you could tell by That is sooooo sad Thanks anyway Lisa
  19. I thought I had a female - the dorsal fin is definitely different from the male's one No white specs as yet Unfortunately I was going to clean the tank tomorrow - I guess it will just have to wait! He's just hanging out under it - I guess I will just have to keep an eye on them Thanks so much Lisa
  20. and he might be guarding them (although he only made it this morning/afternoon) :bounce: Unfortunately they are in my community tank. If they hatch, will they survive (with cardinals, chain loaches, siamese algae eater and a bristlenose)? Could I transfer them at some point to another tank? Is there anything else I need to do? Sorry for all the questions - the only thing I have bred in the past were guppies Lisa
  21. I saw that too - it looks a lot like Heir's tank Won't fit in my tanks
  22. Love the tank! What is the plant right in the middle (by itself) of the tank (foreground)? Lisa
