  1. i have 7 2-3 month old bettas yet to be sexed. can i put my CT girl with them, she not much larger ?
  2. so the vertical bars mean she likes him?? why will she go no where near him then? he built an extremly huge nest, very impressive he danced for her adn wanted her to follow him to his nest but she stayed hiding, he looked massive when hes flared up. could she be petrified of him? i would be he looks rather scary racing around all flared up etc. when i put the bag in the water she barred up and he stayed there staring at her. not trying to kill her. ill leave her with him tomorrow, coz i need to get her a new heater on monday. i dont mind if i only get a few fry
  3. im going to get silca sand for my females bettas will be so awesome. ive seen some tanks with plants in the sand, how do you clean the sand when its all planted out

  7. i want one i want one where do i get one
  8. i love the planted tanks, but was told that you need to turn over sand once a week coz of the gas that gets collected in the sand. how do you do that when ur tank is planted out?? thanks i really want to plant out a tank but dunno how to clean the sand when they are planted
  9. she was in a bag overnight then i released her. shes got egg spot, vertical lines. should i leave her in there. shes 6 months old i thought my boy was about that but hes huge, got full size fins think hes older.
  10. they arent trying to kill each other, geez the female is going no where near big scary looking male. i should have got a larger girl. but i thought my boy was small (guess hes not). he has tried grabbing her and wrapping her up. but shes not interested. im leaving them to it. the nest he made last night is awesome. he dances in front of her then goes back to his nest like she is meant to follow then goes and tries again. everynow and then he charges at her. they LOVE bloodworms, my young ones went nuts over them. we going out this morning, hopefully eggs when we get home. ill keep an eye on her to make sure she still has eggs. thanks
  11. if i dont have eggs by the morning, shes coming out for a day then ill try again.
  12. i have a female crowntail who has a egg spot and when i put her with my boy she got vertical stripes. his nest was pretty pathetic but he fixed it up when she went in. it was great, but she kept hiding, coming out for air then hiding, he hasnt really beaten her up. more danced in front of her all flared up. he looked impressive. but i think she may have only been bred with CTs before. my boy is a VT. impressive spread though. im taking her out tonight if no spawning. then try after a day or two. i want to know will my girl get sick if she continues to refuse him. ive heard they can get like egg bound or something. id hate to lose her. my boy looks really down when he flares and dances adn she still ignores him. but he has been nice to her and not tried to beat the crap out of her...yet. can anyone help me. how long should i leave her with him. shes been with him since 6am this morning. thanks

  16. i was told when i got mine that most fish that are pleasant nice community fish. no aggressive fish like silver sharks etc. and was told no male guppies as they are too frilly and the male bettas attack them or so ive been told. goodluck. was told i could keep one male and 2-3 females in my 22L tank as long as planted and females have places to hide.
  17. Mel what do you meant planting in pots??what about getting a fish that sifts the sand would the help with turning it?? can i out that silca sand in with Bettas??
  18. where can i get white sand that is safe for a tropical tank? and can i plant hair grasses in it? and how do i get the gunk out of it, cant really siphon it can i. thanks
  19. my filter consists of a large rectangle which holds carbon which is a carbon filter, water then goes through a black sponge to collect any extra bits, then over ceramic noodles. thanks adodge for idea about the pipette i was wondering how to clean the fry tank out. oh man he is scary all puffed up. i was settling my son back to bed. the tank is in his room and i couldnt see my fish so when bub asleep i had a look , no fish, thought hmmm where is he? so i turned on the light and must have frightened him and made him grumpy. he came flying out of the plants went to the back of the tank then charged the front with gills flared and fins flared then backed up and recharged. i quickly turned off light and told him i was sorry. but he was soooo scary. sorry for sounding so grumpy before.
  20. hes having a sulk now, normally comes forward for dinner when i open his lid but he didnt. so i think hes sulking and grumpy with me.
  21. by BN i am guessing you mean bristlenoses. well i did have two but have a ceramic "nemo" that blows bubbles out its mouth and somehow one of then got under the gravel and into the hole in the belly and i found it today dead. so hoping the other one doesnt do same thing, ive buried it deaper in the gravel. i remove fish and clean tank each monday cleaning tank sides and gravel. and do water changes during the week. the bristlenose was not doing its job well at eating the algae. what is wrong with using the filter to remove floating debris that is left over after feeds?. otherwise id have to change water a few times a day. thanks heaps
  22. its not underground filter, the intake pipe comes down from the top, and stops about 1 cm above the gravel. can i replace the end of intake pipe with a sponge?? it has a attachment with slits for debris to go through but not fish. thanks im not biting everyone heads off. ive been told i dont need a filter as long as i do regular water changes.which i am doing.
  23. apart from 2 tiny (2 cm long) bristlenoses he is only fish there. i do regular water changes. the filter is great for getting rid of suspended matter and breaking the surface and getting rid or surface film. seeing the tank is only little its easy to do water changes.
  24. all the reading says he doesnt NEED a filter!!! as long as i do water changes. thanks for the help i FINALLY got my question answered. he breathes at the surface not thro the water.
