  3. I thought tetra's had to be blacked out, as they spawned in the dark, is this not so for all tetra's? B Would love to know, as have not had a chance to look up info on my serpae's yet.
  4. I think you will find the white ones have fungused and are no good, at least that is the way with angels, and the parents should remove, if not they will cause the rest to fungus aswell. Steve
  5. yay, I will be able to make that one lol B
  6. I have a jebo 815 which pumps just on a 1000ltrs an hour and I have found it very good, you will save a few dollars with a jebo compared to a eheim or fluvl aswell. I know there are people out there who swear by the eheim's and fluval's and am just giving my opinion on this.
  7. to me they look like Microgeophagus altispinosa or Bolivian Ram , can't tell from the pics what sex they are tho
  8. no worries, postie betta not of lost it

    My DIY Filter

I didn't realise tht your air driven had the sponge and filter wool on the outside as the air driven I have that was purchased has it all on the inside of the housing. But it is working fine and it is drawing a current in the tank and collecting a bit of crud in the media, so all is working fine. B

    My DIY Filter

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that due to the availability of materials through my work, the concept was altered a bit and was as peg says not the original idea. However that said, it is small enough to be un-obtrusive even in a bare fry tank and it works fantasticly peg. B

    Angels

HI Guys and thanks for your comments, I have managed to get 6 thru this far and I reackon it's not bad for a first timer, even tho there were 50 when I started. Am curouis as to what alans deleted post is tho B
  15. Thought I would post the DIY air driven filter that i have assembled, I would like to thank Pegasus for the concept and ideas on material. This is just a quick succession of photo's showing the parts and assembly. Air Hose This is the sponge, Which is just a car cleaning sponge, thoroughly rinsed before use I then sliced it in half as I found two peices of sponge too dense for the air to get through and it just bubbled out the bottom. I placed these slightly apart on the air line by slicing an x in the middle and threading the air hose throught the sponge Next I wrapped the peice of air hose inbetween the sponges in filter wool This is the housing for the filter which is just 40mm downpipe, with a few holes drilled in it to increase the surface area for the bacteria. Another suggested method to increase surface area was to fill the bottom portion of the filter with folded up drinking straws. And this is the complete unit minus and air stone and suction cup. The air stone will diffuse the air and allow a larger quantity of smaller bubbles to pull water throught the media. And Finally the whole unit This is a great little filter and I have two runing at the moment on fry tanks and they are wicked, and there is little fear of losing fry to the filter. Hope this inspires others to try and make thier own DIY bits and peices. B

    Live Food

they have been gong a couple of months at least, and the water clears up as the feed on the ------ ( forgot the name now) and then they feed on the lettuce as it breaks down and they keep reproducing. they barrels are opaque but i don't think that is important as I know people who have them in the big blue food grade barrels, and it is not oxygenated, but some people do throw airstones in for them. Hope This Helps B

    Live Food

the daphnia are easy, cos I left a barrel of water outside to go green and then added some daphnia, coutesy of Wok, and left em to it, occasionally throwing in the odd lettuce leaf. And I feed em out to the fish say once a week, and they are still going strong. B

    Live Food

I keep, the frozen blood worms, usually have frozen mozzie larvae aswell. I have a couple of barrels with green water and dapnia in it( which I reackon is one of the easiest live foods to keep.) and it also has some mossie larvae in it, hich I feed out as soon as they appear. And inside I have two small white worm cultures to compliment the others. B

    Angels

Thanks alan and peg, water changes are still going and keeping me busy, now thier bigger I'm not so paranoid about sucking them up. Silly me took photo's then did a water change today and also the light makes the tank look quite yellow, it's just a flouro with the standard tube in it. B
  21. Heres some comparison shots of my planted tank arlier shot when this thread was almost halfway thru and this one taken today B

    Angels

Well, heres an update on the angels. The first pic was taken by Caryl the same weekend as thw bbq at jude's which if my memory is working was Sat Jan 16th And this pic was taken today Sat 19th Feb The second pic is more for mystic, just to prove that they are trtiangle now. B
  23. just a check up to see where we are at with this and if there is anything that needs to be done, it went all quiet for a while. Also I can only seem to access the main page on the website at poecilia B
  24. Like I said in my earlier post, I have used the fosroc and the holdfast, one is smelly one is not, and they are both fine, the advantage in usuing the holdfast 202 clear, is it dries much clearer and doesn't go opaque with age. JMO, but any of the 3 above would be fine, plus what you have to remember that for the companies to put "Aquarium Safe" on the product it needs to so, and extensively tested, and if you find it not to be so then you are eligible for compo under the fair trading act as the product is not " Fit For Purpose" B
  25. Which placemakers did you got to dark? We sell 3 types at kaiwhara and they are the Fosroc Silaflex RTV which is quite smelly, Holdfast 202 clear, which doesn't smell very much at all and selleys glass sealant is the 3rd, which I haven't used as of yet( but have a tube here ready to go). You will probably find they are an acid based( for etching the glass to give the silicone something to stick to) and what they call nuetral cure, which means there are no solvents in it to leech out into your tank.
