  1. Nup :gigl: it was tucked down the black backing on the tank. I was staring at the fish then said what the.... well you get the idea :slfg: It certainly didn't want to move.
  2. Thanks for that. The benefit of going to hire the bottles enables me to upgrade if need be and I will certainly look at going bigger. I knew doing the whole soda stream bottles thing would be a waste of time. Anyone else have the same regulator that Atwan has? Atwan - how long after you paid did it arrive?
  3. Was still there. Got my husband to remove it as it was freaking the fish out a bit. Wonder what it was thinking? :slfg:
  4. Look very closely in the background:
  5. So they have a timer built in or you need to put it on one? What size Co2 bottle do you have on your tank and how long does it last?
  6. I am after some help as to what I need to setup a pressurised CO2 system on my 430 litre planted tank. I can get 6.8kg Co2 bottles at BOC, but would like to know how long these may last on this tank? What else do I need? Anyone using items bought off TM that they can suggest? Thanks -K.
  7. Zeebee, I was looking at those Valray ferts tonight actually. Then looking at the hydroponics.co.nz website. I am using believe it or not pond fert in my tanks and have adjusted the quantities for quite a while now. Looking at setting up a proper co2 system.
  8. Thanks Sophia. I guess I've always had an eye for interior design and it is the same with my tanks. I had the plants wood etc and had an idea straight away in my head how it was going to look and that's what I've created
  9. Interesting.... I thought the light penetrated well in my AR620T. There are 2 x 18w 14000k PL light bulbs in there. I bought it second hand a year ago and those bulbs were only put in prior to purchasing. They give a very chrystal clear light. Quite differen't to whats in my AR850. Not sure if these are standard bulbs or not.
  10. Thanks so much The 2 big swords, crypts and tiger lilly came with the tank and the previous owner had a diy co2 system. No plant "sulk" noticed yet. The cabomba was out of my AR380 and it flowers nearly contantly. All from a parent plant bought 4 years ago (lots still in the AR380). I used to cut it back to half the amount each month. The rest were out of my AR620T (which will be up for sale soon). The small amazon swords in the front grew from a stem on the amazon sword to the right of them in that tank. When I took them all out another big sword had multiplied so I spit it up. In my tanks I used Flourish and a plant fertliser I picked up which you only use 1ml per 40 litres every week. I have also recently learnt that the PL bulbs used in those AR's are better than T8's - they penetrate deeper. I have gone for T5's for this tank. I am looking at possibly setting up a proper co2 system as I could get the bottles through work Havent set up the diy system yet just using flourish, aquamix (for long term) and my liquid fert.
  11. Hi all This tank is "new to me" recently. The plants have been a mixture of those that came with the tank and those that have come from 2 of my other tanks. Planning to stock T bars, Rams and my spiney banded eel "mr spiney". This is the biggest tank I have setup to date and I am dropping from having 4 tanks to 2. Comments welcome.
  12. I have bought a Jager 300w for a 430lt tank. Must say I set the temp and it has not moved. Normally I would watch my tanks drop a bit overnight but not this tank. They are rated for a 600-1000lt tank. They pickup a temperature change of +/-0.5C
  13. My biggest T bar boy is about 4 - 4/12 inches. Here he is: Excuse the slightly blurry photo he is pretty active when I stand in front of the tank! Here is a couple of his babies which are in with him. He leaves his babies alone and doesn't bother the other fish much.
  14. How large is large? And how many T Bars?
  15. Hey, I have had T Bars for a year now and have kept them with Rams, Kribs and acara's. Has anyone successfully kept them with neons and tetra's? I am going to move them into a 430 litre tank and would like schooling fish in there (dont like giant danios). Cheers

    Tinted glass

Thanks for your comments. Yes it is for a display tank with lots of plants. It is 350 litres with a rock 3D background. I usually get the Aqua one tanks but thought for a planted tank a straight glass one would look better. Does anyone have any photo's of theirs set up? Cheers

    Tinted glass

Hi all I am looking at purchasing a tank which has tinted sides. Is there a downside to this? :-? Would it look stupid? Tank is going to house south american cichlids. Cheers
  18. I've had a pair lay eggs and it looks today that they have hatched. She is a damn good mum so far so hopefully they do well. I have had other pairs spawn but they were not smart parents and their eggs got eaten.
  19. Have you managed to breed T Bars (I noticed one in your pic)?
  20. When did Mt Roskill Animates do away with their big saltwater display? We visited in November and it was not there, and were really disapointed. In fact they no longer had saltwater stock. I do prefer the Jansen's days. We like visiting both HFF's and Pupuke Aquarium.
  21. Personally I think the natural look of wood amongst plants supersedes any yellow water from tannin leaching. Carbon will remove the tannin from the water also. Some fish actually like the presence of tannin in the water for example SA cichlids
  22. Hi Zeebee I have bought some from Goldfish bowl and some off trade me from a seller located in Morrinsville. Although my plants grow prolifically and I havent needed buy any for a while. I often have to cut back my cabomba as it swamps one of my tanks. Usually I throw the excess away. What type of plants are you after?
  23. Welcome I have been thinking about going along to a waikato club meeting myself and seeing whats it all about Fish tank crawl and sales tables certainly interest me.
  24. I got my little guy 3 weeks ago from Goldfish Bowl he was $29.80 but he is absolutely beautiful  I was there about a week ago and they still had one. I was told that it is very hard to come across a female being sold in the shops. My guy loves it when my banded spiney eel curls around his body. Odd friendship that one! I often travel to HFF myself for fish and bloodworms
