  3. lol, the small tank is one thing.. but there's also a black cat staring intently at it in pic 3! Talk about sleeping with one eye open..

Fishie, if you want a general gauge of how large the black will be, look at the silver aro in the HFF Albany tank. If I'm not mistaken, blacks grow to about the same size as silvers but with different coloration. On another note, there's nothing to feel 'uneasy' about with having a solo aro in the tank. Personally, I feel that having one aro per tank not only gives the fish all the space it wants, but it is also easier to enjoy viewing the fish. Having a huge tank full of aros looks cool, but you don't really get to examine each one and build a bond with them. Aros are actually very personable fish, as I've recently found out. Mine is a shy eater lol, if there is anybody else in the room with me during feeding time, he refuses to eat. But when I follow my usual routine and feed him without anyone in the room, he chows down like crazy. Spend time in front of the tank so that the fish will recognise you and identify you with feeding, then he will follow you in front of the tank.

  7. Might be.. Even dictionary.com is stumped lol.. Do abbreviations count? IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers) lol.
  8. My mistake, I mixed up otos with golden algae eaters. Had a look online and otos are supposed to stop at 5cm while GAEs grow up to 12 inches..

  10. Word of advice though, otos have a tendency to grow larger than you'd expect.. I think their max size is something like 2"? Pretty sure one of the guys at HFF told me that once.. I've been wary ever since haha.
  11. Are you sure it wasn't from Switched On Gardener?
  12. Hmm.. A song comes to mind.. What were the lyrics again..?? Ahhh yes.. "Let it be, let it be, let it be, oh, let it be.. Whispered words of wisdom, let it be.." lol.. As long as they're happy..
  13. Looks like 'cotton mouth' to me. Not sure what the medical term for it is, but my betta got it years ago. Didn't make it unfortunately. You might have some luck google-ing cotton mouth, but IIRC the chances of survival are slim once it's advanced. Edit: (Sorry, just read the article above.. But from personal experience, once the mouth is so badly infected it's usually a case of making the fish comfortable..)

  15. Ahh, don't worry about it. Nobody is ever fully content with their photos. It's the hunger for perfection that keeps us going (well, me anyway).. Might be worth investing in a set of filters for beach scenes. Just google Neutral Density filters and you can see what people do with them, really amazing stuff. I'm saving up some money to get a full set so that I can do smokey water shots at sunset (never sunrise lol.. wayyy to early for me)

lol, keep 'em coming guys.. Gotta love Demotivators! :happy1:
  17. Agreed, it's a great pic. But I think it would have been even better if you'd included his full reflection in the sand - makes it more "deep", like he's contemplating his own reflection.. (even though he's probably just looking for worms haha)
  18. Hikari sinking carnivore and massivore actually have the exact same analysis so I think the difference is only in the size of the pellets. Sinking carnivore would probably be a smaller investment for you to try out on the BT before moving on to massivore when it's bigger.

  23. Fair enough, but I think if you really want to rinse the filter media don't use straight tap water.. Existing tank water would be much safer.. Temperature difference could potentially crash the bacteria culture as well.. Damn bacteria, more sensitive than the fish they support! :an!gry
  24. Sam, I'm torn between your dedication to your fish, your love of food and the hilarity of it all! "It was a really good brownie vs keeping my fighter fry alive." has my vote for funniest quote of 2011 (thus far)..
  25. I hope you were joking! lol..
