  1. lol yes indeedie - fish are his friends he lives with about 50 odds juvie african cichlids and he has no interest at all in eating them :-? lol
  2. thanks for the replies. His tank hasn't got a cover so fully open. i know his diet is pretty bad i try feeding the hothouse food but he just won't eat it :-? will get some fresh fish fillets and try him on that tonight i added afew drops of turtle vitamins to his prawn - and wouldn't you know it the little devil knew something was different and wouldn't touch it - managed to get one good piece into him though.
  3. I love your avatar Matt, very cool Yes he does come right out onto his basking area when i sneak into the fishroom in the morning he's under the heatlamp fully dry, so happy he is coming right out now. Yes duh me, i read through donna's turtle fact file and noticed the bit on the plastic covering - so do you think that is the reason? i hope so and i hope we've done no serious damage to him
  4. My snakeneck is going through his shell shed at the moment, today one of the old plates came off leaving a small very white patch, bone? I have always had problems with feeding this guy, at the moment all he will eat is raw prawns - so i am sure it must be his diet causing this. he has a basking area in which he can come right out of the water to dry and has a uv light on all day, we have just replaced this with a brand new bulb - BUT before replacing we have always had the protective plastic cover over the light, so this may also be another factor of the white shell? we have now removed the plastic cover. Any tips on new things i can try feeding him. Also with a cuttlebone floating in the tank does it matter he doesn't eat it? does the calcuim leach into the water?
  5. those dumbbells might be abit to heavy for your dragon

trav is that $20 or $200? i'll take it if it's only $20
  9. Crypts, they the only plant that I seem to be able to grow  plus they are really nice
  10. i thought they were brackish too - anyone know if they are ok with fg8's?
  11. They are beautiful i will have to come around and see them one time.
  12. afew years ago the lfs had a GSP and it was so cute i think much cuter than the fg8's - I so want one, will they live with fg8's? Well my 3 little cuties are doing really well, alot fatter now and seem alot happier to. I noticed when i first got them there tummies were very odd, you could see the inside bits - almost like how you can see a really skinny persons bones sticking out. But they're not like that now and they love raw prawns it's amusing watching them play tug of war with a piece of prawn.
  13. OMG this is a disgrace to know there are people out there that would do such a thing. But i guess no matter how good your security is - if they want to get in they WILL get in  I am always nervous when "new" people come to pick up fish from me - You have opened my eyes Adodge to the reality of this sort of thing, and i can see why alot of people are very secretive about the fish they keep.

    Severum ID

I have 2 exactly the same, but are needing to thin out the tank they are in - so are only wanting to keep one of each different fish. It is a very nice fish, alot nicer than the picture - but i just wasn't sure what kind it is, not that I really mind at all what it is, but whoever buys it might want to know.

  17. Thankyou LA for putting my mind at ease, I will turn the airstone back on
  18. Ok really silly question i know, But ... do they need alot of oxygen in the water? i had a airstone going in there but have taken it out, i am alittle worried the airstone might make them take in air and puff up? I have just got the spraybar of the filter just above the surface creating movement
  19. yes that is java fern also have some anuabis(sp) in there - i guess time will tell if it'll grow in there or not
  20. Just took some pictures of them
  21. I got them last night - the person i got them from has had them in brackish for the last 3 or so years and she gave me a hydrometer she has had them at 1.010 - so that is what i have the tank at now. When we picked them up last night we collected as much water from there old tank as possible and she gave me a bag of the red sea salt. The tank i have them in now has a HUGE trumpet snail problem so they are busy eatting them all will the trumpet snails survive in brackish water?
  22. I have been offered 3 fig 8 puffers from a palmy local that can no longer care for them. I have been ringing around and it seems that Instant Ocean salt is ALOT cheaper than red sea salt - is there a reason for it being so cheap? any good?
  23. I have been offered some figure 8 puffers, but i had no idea at all about how to start a brackish tank. So want to find out first and also what kinds of food these puffers eat? Can i just use normal salt? or does it have to be a special salt i haven't decided to take the puffers on yet and not sure if I want to, really depends on how hard they are to keep.
  24. Hi, we have 3 big male convicts in our mixed african tank and they are totally fine - however if you were to put a female in there then I would say you'd have trouble.
