  1. I only signed a form only acknowledging her umbilical hernia and during the hour long adoption process but nothing else was brought up from the sales assistant, wondered why she quacked like a duck instead of yelping and vet check came back with her palate being too long. After talking to a fe people I heard of another case when this woman made Animates reinburse her for all the surgeries she paid to correct the defects on her dog they never told her about and that was 3 years after she bought the dog. So there's still hope but definately won't be buying unless from a breeder now.
  2. I had lucious Java ferns before my partner did a waterchange for me and scolded them with water that was too hot for their liking, they're growing back now but growing quite slow. I was thinking about pulling off the plantlets and putting them in a bucket dosed with either Florapride or Flourish Excell with a light over the bucket - would doing this boost their growth?? What do other people use to make their Java ferns grow faster? Amy.
  3. Am seriously looking into getting this but I have never heard of this brand before so wanting to know if anyone out there is using this brand? And if so - is it easily to use, clean and sturdy etc? The price is SO alluring! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =209354844 Thanks
  4. it shouldn't have worms and I've recently treated the whole tank (about a month ago max) but I could add prazi in with tonight's waterchange along with epsom salt (would the two combined be too harsh for the fish?)
  5. haha it's too bad that they don't remember that they're full and keep eating WHat should be my next step if my Discus doesn't come right in the morning?
  6. trust me it's survival of the fittest in my tank so they all scoff when someone else is disctracting the Blue Diamond...they all get little round bulges after dinner.
  7. an update - he's upright now (epsom salted him in a separate bucket a couple of hours ago) but he's still a bit weird when he swims, he's got his fins clamped but his belly's smaller so I'm guessing he's let it out. He's not eating yet just staying to one spot. Phoenix - I can't help it that he has a healthy appetite  Ron - for our research project we chose to analyse what the birds from the Karori Wildlife sanctuary were consuming, unfortunately it meant we have to tramp for 3hours twice a week collecting poop from 7 of the feeding stations then spend another few hours flushing the poop with water and extracting the seeds for identification....I wish we chose something like weighing fluffy ducklings or something it's revolting
  8.  after 3hours of analysing bird faeces I was a bit brain dead...realised it meant gallons after I had thought about it lol friday mornings and tedious work doesn't mix
  9. yeah it happens all the time so I thought he'd get over it like all the other times thanks for the help! If I have him in a big tank with a lot of other fish will it be ok? Did you mean 2 Tablespoons per 10L? (what's 10g? )
  10. mine didn't have whitespot - I just thought they had, was from the time I thought they could do with some colder water in summer lol...Discus are tough though
  11. is epsom salt readily available from supermarkets or will I have t get it from a health store?
  12. My turq appeared to be bloated two days ago and swimming downwards was hard and I thought he just had constipation and would have got over it by now but it's got worse, it's either swimming on its side or upside down swimming and he's still got a bloated stomach from what it looks like. He just can't get upright Would it be just his constipation or does he sound like he's got a swimming bladder problem? He's highly stressed at the moment his stress bars showing 24/7
  13. Not when it comes to a pup born with a palate too long for her so she's only getting half the amount everytime she breathes. Got her independently checked and the vet was shocked that no one picked it up earlier. Just waiting to find my contract from my purchase before I consult with Animates and my lawyer
  14. Oh that is so sad! I remember how I panicked when I thought my Discus got whitespot but it turned out to be the water being too cold during the waterchange. I'm currently trying to save a little runt in my spare tank it's been bullied to the point when it's gone all skinny with the pinched in forehead and dark...hopefully I can bring it back. Unfortunately it's survival of the fittest in my tank..was amazed at how much my Wild TypeX weighed (FATTY needs excerise)
  15. Yup that's my electric dream and blue diamond on my avatar - photo taken last year sometime in October I think so they were still young. I'll try to take side on photos tonight after they've finished feeding...always a stressful time (blue diamond won't share so everyone else has to sneak around) I've tried to take a photo of my whole tank but it won't fit. Trying to collect as many different strains as my tank permits lol Discus are an addiction. Will you be moving them into a planted tank when they've matured?
  16. wow what do you have in your 150L??? some good looking 2nd hand canisters as well as new going on TM atm too...just buy new media and you'll be good to go.
  17. species or strains...never know when to use it NZ Discus Man's got some nice peruvians for sale too...might be tempted
  18. I tried to keep them in a barebottom was easier to clean and feed them but they were much happier when I added them into my planted tank. I got one Pigeon Checkerboard, one snakeskin and one turq off Ron. They joined my existing Wild type X, Alenquer Red, Electric Dream and Blue Diamond. I'm hunting for a Snow White now...
  19. yeah I saw that on TM too but I want all my Angels to be of the same species....there were these beautiful pure white Angels with pink cheeks (Blushing Angels??) before on TM which I really liked but haven't seen them for a while. Or just Peruvians will do I guess...Could you post a pic of what the black ones you got look like NewFisher?
  20. Agree with Caryl - Jebo 819's are a good buy and do a great job (loved it ever since Karen convinced me to try it) have one of these on the right side of my Discus tank and a Fluval 304 on the left side of my tank..lol..don't ask why I have two external canisters
  21. well it definately looks like Angels for my tank..with a tank at 200L should I stick to small Loaches? B'cos I'll definately want a small troop of loaches to keep snail population down - it's a shame I do like the look of Clown Loaches though
  22. there's no current 'cos I turned the spray bar towards the wall but it will definately be the over feeding  Discus are little fattys
  23. I suck at it - only got my crowntail male left in my Discus tank, lost two females to dropsy and I thought a waterchange everyday was sufficient for them
  24. so it looks like the stripes on the true Altums are wider than those Scalares? and less dots on back? Does anyone here breed true Altums though? And if so how much do they range?
