  1. Tiger lotus would look good in the middle and toward the rear wall of the tank. I would put the stricta in a 'C'ish shape toward the LHS of the tank starting at the front and going to the rear-centre meeting the tiger lotus. That leaves you lots of room on the RHS for your cories to play in. A sand pit perhaps? I like the mix of gravel you have in there.
  2. Watch out for non NZ plug points. Also some of us won't use any thing but the ones we know are reliable and can trust eg. Jager, Rena, Fluval.
  3. Make a road trip to palmy! Himatangi beach has awesome sand and it's clean too!
  4. Just figured you might be busy. I was going to link to the originals, but if you have the time then it' the better resolution
  5. If they are new, no one's going to know if they are reliable...
  6. Email them to me and ill put them up in the plant committee section. Thanks.
  7. It's only for flowering response on some plants, and the 2T8s together for when I want to look at the tank at night. It's the first time in months that I've used the lights.
  8. My flatmate decided to play with some of the setting on his SLR. First 2 were taken with 30 second exposures; and I took the last one on my point and shoot. The lights are 1x marine glo T8 and 1x plant pro T8.
  9. I'm not totally happy with it. At the moment it looks too generic for my liking. Any one can look on the internet and copy a certain style or someone's tank. I look at all those tanks on the internet and they all look exactly the same and it's so boring. So the challenge I now have is to take this orchestrated look and make it my own. Haven't thought of how exactly I am going to do that just yet, but I'm sure ill do something with it.
  10. DSLR Pics! FTS- Some of the cardinals - (warmer pic) Some more- (cooler pic) Coming up for mossie larvae - (That is Ech. bartii if any one is wondering). Now I will just have to wait till the plants grow and I can hide all the equipment again.
  11. Needs good light. If you have too much of it in a tank the bases will go brown and rot off. It grows like mad and doesn't need too many ferts.
  12. My tank is run solely on T5HO powerglos, and it's not pink. Infact I have setup dozens of tanks with powerglos and never once seen the tank go pink. Different story with the old T8 plantpros.
  13. I bought enough plants to stock it, but bearing in mind that the stems would grow like mad. Got some more cardinals today, so I think that's a schoal of about 70-80 in there now. I'll refert the gravel tonight with the JBL balls and the root tabs. My crypts are flourishing. I shall update with a pic (or more) tonight. I wish I could get marble hatchets, but they will jump out. Also, still need Java fern.
  14. Going to go pick me some more cardinals now. 100 in total will do. Going to be an expensive day - Shopping list so far contains: Cardinals JBL Balls Root Tabs Filter Wool Maybe more cories if they have brochis or sterbais Java Fern (normal or phillipine)
  15. Just increase the water movement. Cories would be good too as they are always scrounging for food around the tank.
  16. Cool! There is soooo much space for that plant!
  17. Shrimp pellets and Hikari pleco tabs are very good for them. Raw shrimp on occasion is good for them too; but the 140 will love courgette and the 270 will love the shrimp.
  18. Space in the middle is not something I am used to, but if I have my way the base of those pieces of wood will be housed with Java Fern.
  19. Well! What a crazy three hours it's been. The tank is still a work in progress but after a lot of hacking away at the plants this is what I have done - Now I need more cardinals.
  20. yes to powerglos.the more you can afford the better.
  21. There is more than one; each representing a wholesaler. None of them are publicly available, but if you go to a store they should oblige and tell you what they can get in.
  22. Hello, and welcome. The tank looks very nice!
  23. FW mussels are so cool! I recall Stella telling me that they are endangered in the wild? They just scoot around the sand leaving sand trails as they go! and they have these cool frilly things that they let out their shells. I hide food in the sand for them and they seem to chase it down!
