  1. well guys. the wildlife vet was actually quite surprised that the bird wasn't already dead so I did good but the bird has a fair bit wrong with it. aside from the eye and the broken wing - I also noticed it had a very severely enlarged and inflamed air sac. so got that checked out as well, and it turns out that he may have a blockage that is causing the air sac to fill like a balloon. so it will live at the vets until it gets better - if it gets better and then gremlin will go into rehab
  2. So I got to thinking. If something ever happened to rusty.. say he broke his wing.. I would take him straight to the wildlife vet - even if i could fix the problem at home. so why should I treat lille gremmy any different? I helped him out and now he has energy, but I've taken an appointment at the Massey wildlife vets and I shall check the finch in there. poor little gremlin needs a proper look at with x rays.
  3. THat's dirt cheap. i thought the power converters were $150 or so. maybe i was looking at something else then.
  4. break appears to be in the ball and socket joint. ill take a pic of the wing as well..
  5. I have a marine blue tube on the tank (its a 3ft tube) and I think its too bright. so what ive done is used one of those 11W (0r is it 22w) underwater bulb things. and the effect is really nice. ripples go all over the room in the dead if the night. I would love a 12V converter thing, but those are overly expensive though aren't they?
  6. He is alive. im about to feed him again now, and then after an hour i will have to fix that broken wing too. he will never fly with it in the shape it is in
  7. LOL the birds are not allowed near each other until i can make sure the wild creature that i have not named yet, is disease free. Im considering calling him gremlin cause he is green. if i can make him healthy ill try giving him to a local bird aviary thing called the esplanade here in palmy. big enclosures, and he will be happier flying around the place.
  8. yeh. funny thing is i can hand feed him with no difficulty at all. he seems pretty happy to sit there and be fed.
  9. i shall use the flatmates marmite then
  10. Did not know that! There shall be no Marmite in my drawers. only he real Vegemite works with me hahahha. he shall get some of that tomorrow. how much are we talking, (little by my standards is a massive load on a bit of toast that most people would never eat_).
  11. he is in the hot water cupboard sleeping in a container with paper towels and fluff in it. can i do any more?
  12. I do remember reading them on one of the lists a while ago, but I think they were crossed with something else.
  13. 405? awesome stuff. If you've got discus coming in that tank id get rid of the directional flow bar and let the water just naturally go back in the tank, but that's just me. If you can get red tiger lotus do it. but id recommend getting the normal one first. see if that grows. If it does just bear in mind you will need more light than the normal one for it to grow well.
  14. naah it went squish the minute i chewed on it. he is not a tiny baby, but is still young. he has his baby fluff in some places. ill have to inspect his wing and fix it when he gets a little better. he also has dried blood over his nostrils and beak. i presume he went smack into a window, but he does not know how to fly .
  15. yeh. that's what they look like when they are young. let em grow. PS- they like hikari cichlid gold.
  16. I sure will. seeds... hmm. he is pretty stupid as most baby birds are so will he eat seeds if they just sit there? (personally I'd only go for something that wiggled) LOL. it was the only thing i could think of at the time. it tasted sweetish. Dixon shares the same viewpoint as you  yeh. he got the saline treatment. tomorrow ill put some oxytetracycline ointment on his eye. yeh. he looked practically dead. you know the sort - he had random bursts of energy. high energy food should help with that hopefully. I don't normally mess with nature, but seeing as he looks like he is in such a state I'd rather he died calmly and peacefully than out in the cold. That's if he dies.
  17. must PUT water level higher  it can be where the black part is. that's a very nice looking aquaone!!! +1 for plants  is that a 305 you're running on the tank?
  18. ...and being the sucker I am - I rescued it. poor thing has what appears to be a broken wing and has a bunged eye. im surprised its alive really. very sweet little thing though. I ve given it some honey and lorikeet wet mix which is corn and a whole lot of nectar like stuff - that provided some energy. he also ate a wax moth larva (which i actually chewed and then shoved down his throat). (only then did i remember that i could have squished it in my palm). He spends the night in the hot water cupboard all nice and warm. so hopefully he survives the night. what sort of finch is it? it is a finch eh?
  19. as far as i know neons are on average $2 to $2.50 each depending on the quantity.
  20. what one is it? Ive got an ati 4870 dual fan 1gb may get another one too
  21. lol. aside from the 3000rpm cpu fan there is the 2x 2000rpm gfx fans the 2500rpm hdd cooler fan and the the normal 2000 rpm ish rear fan and the mega fan on the case, and the mobo fan. lots of cooling! oh and the psu fan shudda used oil
  22. I just turn the volume up to silence that 20cm fan on my comp. gfx cards fans make a lot of high freq revving though!
  23. That is simply put the most beautiful bit of writing I have read in a very long time. he must have been very special.
