  1. Fish like clown loaches and catfish always have and always will cope with salt in their tanks. some genius out there decided to spread the news that CL's didn't have scales. just because they are small scales, doesn't mean they dont have them  african tanks have clown loaches in them quite often, and african keepers usually are quite liberal in the addition of salt to the tanks cause the malawis at least need salt for the slime coat production. my loaches are the oldest fish in my tank so they are great with salt. they used to come out and play in it when i added it to the african tank. the sight of a dozen cories shovelling their faces in salt is a sight to behold lol. other fish even eat the salt and spit it out. great for internal parasite control i reckon  I have never dissolved salt before putting it in the tank, and am likely never to do that. SW aquariums are different though, and it is best to dissolve the salt when you do a water change.
  2. if you want cheap, you can't have pressurised.
  3. LOVE it! you should have seen how happy i was when you sent it to me
  4. no flooding here. well not that I know off but the rain has not been that bad.
  5. just dip them in a very strong solution of salt water for a minute or so. snails won't know what hit them. I have never seen assassin snails here.
  6. That's no good. could you take a close up of a strand of moss in a few days when it starts spreading out?
  7. is that it? and its $10 each time to refill yea?

  11. USD28 + shipping USD12 + shipping The bacters vary in price from about USD12 - USD20 Tourmaline varies from USD16- USD18 Shipping may not be available to New Zealand. None of the ADA products are officially available in NZ. so you will have to import them and pay freight. It is not cheap.
  12. I have 22 with another 12 on the way. its a 4ft 200something L tank.
  13. I'm more hoping that the person selling you the fish will explore the fact that you have discus, and are thus running the tank at 28-30 degrees C. I've found neons tend to pop off at those temperatures. Definitely so at 30C. which is a real pity cause I lost 20 green neons in my last setup that ran at 30C.
  14. well for a 6ft tank, DIY CO2 is practically a waste unless you wanted to give say 1 plant in particular more CO2 or something similar. looking at CO2 setups - a pressurised system is somewhere in the region of $400 all up, plus the cost of the diffuser, which can range from $30 - $200 for one that is suitable for a tank that size. I won't bother offering you the diffusers I have, cause they won't be much use on a 6ft tank unless you wanted to have it running under 1 plant in particular. Also, have a think about if you really need CO2 injection. do the means justify the end?
  15. they are like $6.50 each i think if you buy 10. ring around and ask for specials and stuff.
  16. its all good. not taking any thing personally haha. my plants and fish still doing well with salt in the tank and I suppose that's all that matters. At least now people can make an informed decision about putting salt in their tanks. more so for those that are worried about catfish (including cories) / loaches and salt. where that myth came from I do not know  JehH's post on an OD of salt was interesting though. but then again with that conc. of salt I'd know i was doing something wrong.
  17. I have only just added a second one to my tank. will keep in touch. i don't think there is any one going down there from here. its a slowish growing plant so i'll need more time. At the moment I'm increasing the CO2 and the ferts.
