  1. Not 100% sure on that, but it wasn't me. I bought the plant of a major plant grower in Auckland.
  2. The blue tube - marine blue is absolutely useless for plant growth.
  3. also note the difference between a planted tank and a tank with plants.
  4. In a small tank like that you can use flourite ($80 or so) or daltons prop sand ($12 for 25kg) - you'll need half that. JBL Balls for the more heavy root feeders. Lighting is key though. What are you planning on using?
  5. how big is the tank? Daltons prop. sand is good for larger tanks. Flourite good for smaller tanks.
  6. Same one I sent you. Red Rose x Ozelot. There is another runner that I let flower and then I grow plantlets off them. Flower was probably no smaller than 3.5cm but no larger than 4cm across.
  7. There were 2 competitions run. One for juniors that Ben won, and won the tank etc; and the second for 'seniors' with the bigger prize. I know who won the competitions, but as far as pics and stuff go - No Idea there. Would be good to see what the winning tanks looked like. Ben's tank pic was displayed at the Animates here when the comp was open.
  8. INFO FOR EARTHQUAKE AFFECTED CHCH RESIDENTS Also, you'll likely need to make a claim with the Earthquake commission - https://cms.eqc.co.nz/claimcenter/cms/public/fnol.form 0800 326 243 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 0800 326 243 end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 0800 326 243 end_of_the_skype_highlighting http://www.eqc.govt.nz It is likely you will need to lodge a claim with the Earthquake Commission before you contact your insurer. Approach your insurer after making the Earthquake Commission Claim. Make the claim as soon as possible, but you do have a 3 month window. Hang on to any receipts for repairs that you have had to undertake as a direct result of the quake. My understanding from a report this morning is that most Bank branches and ATMs that can be opened and operational will be so in accordance with the Civil Defence recommendations. Major banks will also have contact numbers specifically for those who need to live in CHCH and are affected by the quake. 9. It will depend on your policy coverage. Some policies do an old for new cover irrespective of age, and some are at replacement value, some have an age specific old for new policy cover. Photos of the broken item are usually enough evidence to support a claim. PHOTOGRAPH EVERYTHING even if you think it is irrelevant. Take videos of the damage if you have to and make sure there is a time and date stamp on images that the camera captures.
  10. Yep, same here. Agasazzi are here for you if you ever need them.
  11. Fear of the unknown I suppose.... Rotenone's ability to degrade that fast is probably one of the best reasons to use it. That and it has been used for decades overseas and there is plenty information and evidence of its use being successful, with subsequent rehab being much more successful. I didn't bother replying as the tone of the thread was clearly anti rotenone with no real reason, only opinion and speculation. Do we really think DoC makes decisions based on a simple coin toss?
  12. Multiple males in one tank that is not 100% sealed from the top like an off the shelf tank like an Aquaone AR 620 or similar. Not a good idea. Multiple females on the other hand - all good.
  13. NO more fish till I'm in Auckland  If I ever get there.
  14. YEah. Definitely getting some of them in the future. Love the pics, and the sand.
  15. Congrats! She should make a good mother too! I have an all male batch I think @ temp 24-25C.
  16. Hope all of you guys are OK and there isn't too much damage done. If in the mean while there is stuff you guys need help with, do let us know.
  17. ha ha thanks! I went through the log myself a couple of days ago, and it was quite cool to see the progression and how the plants grew etc. You don't really notice the changes when you see the tank everyday, but then you see the pics and the growth is very clear! Also made a few mistakes when doing up this tank, that I have learned from and won't make again.
  18. Only the best for me
  19. with more water in the tank I hope! That looks very nice, and is very doable.
