  1. so if I were to get some crickets off you mince, for two babies. how many should I buy and how long would they last? I have been catching heaps from the padocks and stuff but they dont last long ay, hide duting the day and some drown in the water...
  2. I am not saying I am going to feed little frogs to my dragons but I have been researching feeding and one site said this is a food source for them... would they not get sick? I am still having trouble getting my two baby water dragons eating meal worms, any advice? They eat crickets and flys but I want them on the meal worm so I can keep track of how much they are eating. Chears! And again I am not going to feed cute Little froglets to them, just interested lol 8)
  3. feed them some blood worm every now and then, and just normal water changes. As long as the tank is well airated (which I assume it is with the discuss) they should be sweet. If you do accidentaly catch the eggs again put them in a breeding trap with an air stone and some methblue and they will hatch in a couple of days. They are hardy little orange balls lol Good luck
  4. they are 6weeks old now. They are loving their enclosure, jumping off their platform onto the grass to get their crickets lol. very cool to watch. love them!
  5. The two of them on their platform. http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww14 ... C00883.jpg And their home which has more grass in it and a better platform, will put newer ones up but these will do for now! http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww14 ... C00876.jpg
  6. I have two babies and they are doing well on baby crickets which I can catch down a farm. However they are not interested in their meal worm I try and offer tgem. The crickets are good for now that I can catch them, but when they are out of season I dont realy want to buy them all the time. Any trickes to getting them to eat other stuff? Thanks guys!
  7. had to update mine: Bearded Dragon : Water Dragon : 2 Blue Tongue Skink : 1 Any Turtle : 5 Leopard Gecko : Other : newt, rat, birds, arowana and oscars
  8. ok livingart so you think that having the water heated (24degrees) would be fine and I have the reptile uv light going over the whole tank. So I should remove the lamp? Im using a 60w bulb as the breeder I got them off said that would be fine but may have missunderstood lol... they are doing well! saw one eat a cricket today and they love their warm watter and hopping in it for a bath. thanks for the input guys, it realy helps when you are new to something. I am going to try get hold of some meal worm for them so I can see how much they are actualy eating. How much should they be eating btw?
  9. got them today cool little guys! havr there tank setup nice just need a heat lamp now, have the heat mat going for them now. Has anyone done there own heat lamp, ie using a desk lamp with a 60w bulb? Or would this not be a good idea?
  10. yeh they do look like females when they are younger but if they have been fully grown then it could be possible. I know that this can happen to marine fish when there is a poor ratio. Makes sence that tropicals can do the same. I have never had this happen to me but pritty cool to hear it happen lol!
  11. congrats on the fry simian! Good to see they are doing well and "getting to it" so to say lol. keep us updated on them and shoot up some pics for us
  12. thanks for the help, very helpful as usual livingart! many thanks.
  13. interesting, the tank I have is a big aqua1 with curved sides so a divider could be tricky... with the water should I put a heater in to help with humidity? Also with the bog plants they wont eat them and get sick or anything? I think I will go with the aquarium stones and river stones to start with at the moment untill I come ip with something better ay. And put in a big branch for them to climb on.

  15. We are so excited, we are getting two baby (5 week old) water dragons tomorrow! We have all the stuff and a big aquarium so we can have the water for them. I was hoping the experienced reptile keepers could give us a few last minute tips for these guys. I want to do a half water half land landscape but unsure what to use for the land area on dry side of the tank. Maybe bricks covered up? Any advice would be great thanks guys!
  16. Bearded Dragon : 0 Water Dragon : 0 Blue Tongue Skink : 1 Any Turtle : 4 red eared sliders and two snake necks Leopard Gecko : 0 Other : fire bellied newt, tropicals (oscars, arowana exc), rat and lots of birds.
  17. good luck with the breeding on these beauts, it would be great having more of them in NZ! Are these the ones that were on tm about a year of two ago or their offspring?
  18. they are still young, i tryed changing the tank around and taking them out but but no luck so far... they are in a 1.2m tank so space isnt an issue. I might have to take the aggressor out full stop if things dont get better. just sad seeing the others hiding at the bottom till there is food to be had.
  19. Thats what happened with my whiptails, tryed for ages to breed them and when I gave up and found a buyer they spawned lol! Same with my angels, no action for 3 years and when I went to give them away they spawn when my friend came with all the stuff to pick them up.
  20. I think they are nice fish but cannot understand why they are leagal in New Zealand when they can potentialy cause the same amount of damage as mosqueto fish have done... they can survive in NZ waterways, can breed like crazy and are far better adapted for competing with natives. I have been realy tempted to buy some myself but for $8 each I think I will stick with wcmm lol. P.S please dont shoot me down if I am wrong about these guys
  21. And there is a breeding female albino bristlenose for anyone who helps lol. (her mate died)
  22. Is there anyone here making a trip from Wanganui to or close to Cambridge (hamilton area)? There are two oscars I am hoping to get but to avoid the whole shipping thing it would be better is someone with experience with keeping fish could take them on their trip? Any help would be greatly appriciated! thanks guys.
  23. they are not band by maf yet as the goldfish bowl in Hamilton just got two in last week. they sold in like the first day however but he could prob get some more in. expensive guys tho... how large is your one because the ones in the store were not very small... perhaps 12cm+. obviously not breeding size I guess
  24. I had two tiger oscars and a week later got another two however the original two are aggressive towards them. They have been together for a week and no change.... how would I stop this aggression? I was thinking of taking them out of the tank for a bit, and rearanging it so it seems like a new tank to all of them. this would make neautral territory for all of them and stop it... would this work??? anyone had experience with this before????
