  1. I think it is a heater burn as these fish do go horizontal to eat plants and may have become wedged as they are so skinney... just a thought
  2. I have to big gold bell tree frogs and was hoping to breed them but not too sure if they are male and female... one is alot bigger and almost all green, and the other smaller with blue on its legs. there is croaking at night so one is def a male. is there another way of telling? If anyone has adult frogs for sale I would be interested.
  3. they live longer and healthier with some salt however can go without it. however they are far mor successful with it. that is why alot of the mollies you see in stores look unhealthy and swim strange...
  4. yeh I thought I could work something out but too much pipes lol
  5. I have just bought two gold bell tree frogs and I am putting their tank together tonight as follows: an aqua 1 tank with fitted loght and filter. I am going to adjust the filter so it sucks up the watter from the bottom and drizles it down. I have two big plants a piece of drift wood and a rock. I got a tub of flies also. anything else that I need to do?
  6. yeh thats right, an undeveloped fry which will just look like a ball. This happenes to stressed fish or first time breeders. can also just happen every now and then though.
  7. we have 4 red ears, 2 snake necks and a blue tongue. And way too many tropical fish haha
  8. even when you do all your research and prep these guys are still tricky ay. I have got mine to breed successfuly but it all depends on the fish and the setup and timing. Its quite an art. It took me a long time to get mine going but with pacience and keep at it you will get it.
  9. Red whip pair have spawned again, hoping this time i can raise some young. Tipical realy as soon as I try and sell them they go and spawn lol. When/if they hatch what would be the best way of feeding? I was thinking of taking them out and puting them in a floating tank and try green water and brine shrinm. with an air stone in there? not sure how that would go. any advice would be great! cheers guys
  10. yeh man will try give you a ring after uni!
  11. Hi there guys. I have been breeding tropical fish for some time now and have decided that I would like to have a go at gold fish…. I know it is normally the other way round in this hobby but I say an out door setup the other day that had fancy goldfish breeding. Was hoping someone could give pointers as to the best setup I should be thinking of and the type of fish to be looking at. Thanks guys!
  12. hey there I use to breed these guys and I have the last of my offspring which are fully grown now think 3 females and a male (blue half crowns) and one male full crown. and I am in Cambridge which is close to hams if you were interested? my partners fish have taken over the tanks now and the fighters are worse off for it haha
  13. you kinda have to wait till the girls are real fat with the white tube under her showing well. Its good to have a few females for the male to choose from as they dont always work well with certain individuals and will just attack eachother

    BN caves

I have done this before, my male GBA left the cave so i did the air stone and breeding trap and the eggs got fungus, however I have done this before which makes me think that they were not fertilised in the first place which can happen. they should be fine next time as long as you keep giving them high protien foods.
  17. I have pics of the babies that are realy cool that i will try get loaded. just gutted none survived ay!
  18. we have a pair of golden albino axolotls that have had a successful spawning and we hatched out 150+ babies. they survived for about a week afeter hatching... we did water changes and fed them on daphnia and tried brineshrimp but they wernt interested in any of them. If anyone has had success with axolotl fry your help would be great for next time they spawn.
  19. was hoping that others would contribute their colection so I could reasure myself that I wasnt the only fish fanatic lol
  20. BN caves

I found the narrower and darker the cave is the better. Try a 15-20cm pvc tube thats about 1.5-2cm wide with one side blocked off. Then feed them up on blood worm and shrimp pellets for a week then a big 50% cold water change and see what happens. you could also reduce the amount of light during the day so it resembles more winter conditions. And if you have a good filter and the tank is oxygenated they "should" breed. I do this with my albinos and GBAs and seems to work, but i would recomend the tube they seem to like that! mark
  22. ok you guys are going to laugh and call me crazy because thats hjow i reacted when I heard this. Aparenty scientists have discovered that mollies are infact an a-sexual fish, meening that the female does not require sperm to become gravid. wierd ay. I argued that there would be no genetic variation, all the fish would be the same as their mothers... but aparently they do need a male to stimulate this process, any live bearing male (guppy platty any...)
  23. Hey there guys have a male and female pair in a very well oxygenated and filtered tank, feeding them up on bloodworm and have alot of plants on there and an undergroung tunnle for spawning. have researched and they seem pritty straight forward to breed but it is always good to get advice from others who have had experience with whiptails. Any tips would be great cheers guys
  24. Ok I have finaly got my albino bristlenose (pair) and GBA (trio) breeding well. I have also set up a well oxigenated and planted tank for my pair of red whiptail cats which will hopefuly spawn soon!
  25. As the GBA’s are infact the same as the common bristlenose there shouldn’t be a problem. The GBA is genetically the same as the common just without the dark pigment gene. Is like albinism except albinos are missing all pigment genes not just the dark ones. They will either come out one or the other, the only disadvantage is that the GBA is worth a lot more than the common and you will probably only get one ore none from each spawning. This mixing could infact be a good thing as common bristlenose have been so commercialized that their genes have become very weak.
