  1. Is there one brand better than another or they all much the same?
  2. Will be looking into it later next month. Dont think freight will be much if I dont get perlite. Have to check if we can get cups here, should be able to. Prefer the US ones personally.
  3. They are a similar type of product but bigger, but they cost AU$30 each while the other ones are US$5 or less depending on how many are bought, then add freight. And I think the US$ has a better exchange rate than AU$ now. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong on that.
  4. Have not bothered candling, didnt want to disturb eggs any more than needed, but that basket gaget on that website looks very interesting. May consider buying some. If others are interested let me know and I may get them in bulk and sell on. http://www.yourgeckoguy.com/?page=geo may work better.
  5. I have one like that, wont really eat mealworms, on rare occasions may take a wax moth grub but it loves crickets which are real hard to get at the moment. Barely grew until I started feeding it crickets.
  6. What is the secret to hatching them? My eggs tend to colapse after 3 or 4 days. Maybe dehydrating I thought so tried adding a little more water to the vermiculite medium, but then they go mouldy, tried with lid on but that made no difference nor did adding a dish of water to incubator. One idea I plan to try next time is to almost bury them. Have been incubating at about 30 degrees. I must be doing something wrong or they are all infertile.
  7. Did tell you that was my plan eventually, when I stopped in to see you on one of my trips. Made an offer on the 90 Litre tank that was advertised here a liitle while back. So far the worst problem I have had is having to replace main seal on the canister filter that came with it. Have added a couple of shrimps and soft corals so far and hopefully an anemone in a couple of weeks. Dont tell anyone but I will have to get a bigger tank eventually. :happy1:
  8. Good to know. Learning with my own small marine tank at the moment. !drool:
  9. Just seems to be a problem with IE 9. Try Mozilla.
  10. Is it feeding well? I feed meal worms with occasional wax moth grubs and all were doing well, but recently one stopped eating mealworms, so ok I made sure it would get more wax moth grubs but then it refused them as well. It would sniff them and the meal worms then walk away. It seemed to have trouble shedding, usually the head so I have taken to giving it a dab of that liquid calcium once a week to make sure it is getting enough. I am now feeding if crickets which is all it will eat at the moment, hope it doesnt go off them. It loves hunting them, a real nuiscince as I dont breed them. Have not had any bone problems with any of mine. Maybe you could try some of the liquid calcium to help with the bone worries.
  11. I let the native ones go as well, I dont see many of them around now. I also let the different coloured africans go, Have seen brown ones and yellow ones.
  12. Had a couple but lost them. They were very small probably less than 2cm the ones I had. They had little barbs on their fins and one I found tangled ion the root of my java plant the other disappeared. They hid alot but saw them swimming about occasionally.
  13. I breed leopard fish in my turtle pond, I dont know if the turtles catch any but they certainly chase the fish around. I feed a mixture, they get fresh meat, pellets, cat food, and worms and watersnail and whatever else they take a fancy to. I have also noticed them picking up pebbles and grinding on them. I hope this does not cause a problem in the future. They pinch food from the bearded dragon dish and take it back to the pond to eat. One of these is that large Reeve you had.
  14. Kuhlis tend to hide and you may not see much of them anyway.
  15. Have you got recent photos of geckos? Veiwed from top. Many of the leopard geckos have distinctive patterns and it may be possible to identify them if posted on trademe.
  16. The eggs I believe were infertile.
  17. I understand that, should have seen the mess she made rearanging the vermiculite in her house, all up the walls and what she kicked out the door . It is just my preference at least at this stage.
  18. Not sure about homobators would prefer my lizards to come out heteros
  19. Definitely. I have taken photos of each of the lizards, and should be able to identify by markings. I plan to get in touch with tbe breeders I got them from and see if they can add to the family tree. I could colony breed (keep male and females all together to make life easier but then I would not be able to identify which is the mother.
  20. 90 degrees F In the hope of producing males. Too warm for the Reeves eggs. Hovobator ok but not as accurate with temperature and humidity. And the difficulty others have had at breeding males, I was wanting something more accurate. I am also new at incubating eggs. Last time (first atempt) had no luck with a Reeves egg. And as I now have a range of reptiles I thought I could justify something more hi-tech, and I will need 1 or 2 more incubators.
  21. Just a shame that the incubator I have been trying to get has never eventuated. Have been told it was a better brand than the reptile one on trademe, I am now told that it may be available early in the new year, so the reeves eggs have had to be floated in a tank, so that the leopard gecko eggs can go in the old hovabator. Sigh.
  22. Stage 2 complete, 2 eggs today. Now for the tricky one, getting them to hatch. Hopefully they are fertile
