  1. Was just looking at some pictures of them on the net. I've seen the ones you have as well. They all look pretty cool. I think I've seen a red one that took my fancy. Any idea of the scientific name of a red whiptail...? I probably couldn't be any more vague... what sort of price do these go for?
  2. Alright thanks for the information guys. What sort of price do they sell for?
  3. How many of these are recommended to be kept together? A pair? Trio? Male:Female ratio? Also how available are they these days?
  4. What are optimum condition ranges for whip tail catfish? I really like the look of them and I'm thinking of getting one. Are they large waste producers like BN's and plecos?
  5. I've had 10 neons in my tank at 29-32 degrees for the past two months and they seem fine.
  6. How big is the tank? Dimensions? Get a full tank shot as well.
  7. Thanks for the info. I re-dosed today (200mg/100L), second and final dose. All the cyanobacteria appeared to be dead after the first dose. So it should definitely be gone after the second. Now just have to hope that what ever I did first time round to cause it doesn't happen again :-? .
  8. It isn't growing on the gravel too much yet, mainly on the plants which are in a current :-? . Who knows, my fingers are crossed.
  9. My water seemed fine. 0ppm Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite 5ppm Nitrate Maybe an oversupply of nutrients? I've stopped dosing with Flourish. I am continuing with Flourish Excel though. Maybe I should stop that for now too...
  10. Having a bit of an outbreak of this stuff at the moment. Just dosed with 200mg per 100L of azithromycin (derivative of erythromycin which my vet assures me is basically the same). Just wondering how long before I should re-dose the tank, and what sort of water changes in between should be carried out? Cheers, Scott
  11. I've read somewhere on these forums about a list of medications to keep on hand if you have discus. I can't actually find it again so I thought I'd ask. I'm planning on buying 6 young discus within a month or two and I just want to be well prepared as they aren't cheap! So, what medications should a discus keeper have on hand? Cheers, Scott
  12. They drown. So you have nothing to worry about. Besides fish go for them like crazy (usually) and they don't even touch the bottom.
  13. That looks really good! Bit different from the old BGK's.
  14. Haha. Maybe I will just have to settle for a bristlenose...
  15. I'm guessing we don't have any Caridina japonica aka. Amano Shrimp?
  16. I haven't really seen any around. What species of freshwater shrimp are available in NZ?
  17. Thanks for the info. I will look him up when it comes time for buy some flakes.
  18. There are some many conflicting reports as to whether or not snails are beneficial in an aquarium. Only one way to find out haha.
  19. I guess snails really are the pest that everyone makes them out to be
  20. Thanks for the info guys. I heard apply snails are good too? They lay eggs out of the water so you can just scrape them off?
  21. Awesome found them on the mitre 10 website or something close enough. Lamp: http://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/lighting_ ... &orderby=1 Bulb: http://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/lighting_ ... &orderby=1
  22. What's the problem with trumpets?
  23. Can't get direct sunlight as I can't move the tanks. But the other two I can manage. SamH I remember reading that you got a little lamp from mitre 10 for one of your small tanks or something, and then you bought a bulb for it. Can you tell me what the lamp was called and what type of bulb? If this wasn't my bad.
  24. So I want to compare Malaysian trumpet snails and red ramshorn snails as far as algae eating goes. So I'm going to setup two tanks with some in each. What is the best way to grow a lot of algae? Various kinds. I was going to dose with some flourish and leave the lights on 15 hours a day that will work yeh?
  25. That doesn't sound promising. I just bought 10 Malaysian trumpets and 10 red ramshorn snails. Going to keep them in separate tanks and evaluate their algae eating abilities.
