  1. Did you get your pot back? When my flattie moved out and 'accidentally' took 3 of my plates, I called her up and asked her to bring them back that night! She also conveniently forgot last month's phone bill, so I got that off her too. Fanatic, yes, but I got my plates back.
  2. Definitely check if you're allowed to sub-let, and then TRY NOT TO!! If you can afford to live with just the two of you there, then do so as it will make everything a lot easier. Make up some flat/house rules, write them down and pin them up somewhere that you both can see it. Laminate it if you have the money. Decide how the cleaning, cooking, shopping will be done, by who and when. Also decide how you want to pay bills and who's name they'll be under. I'd recommend having the power under one person and the phone/internet under the other. EVERYONE'S name should be on the tenancy - this protects everyone if one person doesn't pay the rent. Still set yourself up to be the main contact between the landlord and your household though, having a good relationship with the landlord will mean a good reference for you. Locks on your bedroom doors is a great idea. I miss mine. And as Lindyloo said, make sure you get the landlord's approval for any and all pets FIRST! Fish included.
  3. Omg, that is just terrible. I almost cried seeing that poor cockatoo just laying there. I hope they catch these guys and fine the crap outta them, along with some other stuff, too. What saddens me most is that I know if my baby Treo were grabbed by a stranger, he'd probably just try to give them 'kisses' instead of putting up a good fight. I can't even imagine what I'd do if someone hurt him.
  4. If you're after a small hand tame bird, I think a budgie would be easier. It doesn't matter if you got one from a breeder or a store PROVIDED you put time into it. Plenty of people get hand reared birds and ruin them through lack of effort on their part to maintain a bond with them. You only need to have them out and spend time with or around them for a bond to remain stable! Budgie's can be little snuggle-bugs if handled right, and are extremely cute! They make great talkers as previously mentioned, but I find their chatter to one another can be annoying at times. I've handled several in-store that didn't fly off my finger straight away and they went on to make great cuddly pets. If you want 2 and don't care if they're hand tame, I'd go with a couple of lovebirds. Doesn't matter what gender they are, they'll still form a pair if you get them together young enough and they'll cuddle together and do all sorts of cute couple-y stuff.
  5. I don't mind getting down to that level - I'll break it! Or I'll just let Treo poop all over/inside it. And I'll glare at them. They'll be sorry...
  6. RAGE!! Is there anything you can do that will indirectly make their life worse? Break their fridge. Subtly.
  7. I think you should kick them all out and give me the house instead. But really, isn't it funny how stupid people get when it's time to move out? So long as someone's paying rent, Rusty doesn't get eaten and you don't die from an allergic reaction, it's all good!
  8. I'm in my second year of uni doing a BSc in Psychology with a background in Biology and Animal Behaviour, 5 days a week, and work part-time at a local LPS (guess which one), 2 days a week. However, I wouldn't consider myself to very 'busy' on a day to day basis. :bounce: I love life :bounce:
  9. Someone mentioned you need a different filter on a Juwel because otherwise the fish will die??! I've rinsed/changed my filter media ONCE in the past year and a half and only had one fatal ammonia spike, (which was my own fault, of course!). Sure, an external filter would be excellent to have, but for lazy/poor/confused folk like myself the included internal filter runs just fine. Although I do agree there are a lot of sponges. I wouldn't trust an Aqua One built-in filter to take care of my babies unless I was obsessive about doing weekly water changes... and had a back up. Btw: Everyone should have at least one back up filter and heater!! If your fish are important to you they are so worth it.
  10. I've got a Juwel too and have to agree with everything Scottie said. I love it!
  11. I still think you shouldn't let them bring/keep the cat. You were there first. So was Rusty. It's their fault for trying to move a cat into a place where someone is allergic and also has a bird!!
  12. Epic adventures indeed! The most adventurous thing my Indian Ringneck, Treo, has ever done is rage-squawk at a caged Kea... and then he ran away in terror. I love my retard, (though I can't wait 'till he can fly again). :bounce:
  13. That suits me! He's only got 2 feet!
  14. But it's her fault! Gimme Ling's number! Whatever you do, don't back down on the matter with the new flatmates. It's rude and unacceptable on their part to force a cat on someone who's allergic. If they don't get rid of it, I may have to smuggle it to my house... Kitty could use a friend.
  15. If you get one can I please be first in line to borrow it? Treo has SHARP little talons.
  16. Call/Txt the flatmates, tell them you're allergic to cats so can't have one in the house, if they're not prepared to give it up, tell them you'll be going to the landlord about the matter. It's not fair on you OR Rusty! (Who btw, I agree should NOT be allowed in a cage - he ran away from me yesterday when I went to stop him stealing Treo's toy, the little tart!) Your old flatties suck for having done that too, I'd be annoyed as! Just remember you can go to the landlord if things don't go your way, as you seem to be the 'head tenant' [or whatever] and they know you better.
  17. 1. Phoenix is not nice. Smiling 24/7 =/= nice!! 2. If you crazy's are from Welly, can I ask why you're always in PN stealing all the fishies? 3. Phoenix, please go to the Bird Barn and pick me up a hand-tame a)White Ringneck b)Masked Lovebird c)Macaw or d)Another pre-approved baby birdie. 4. Can I have a secret pleco too?
  18. I don't know of a lovely lady who lives on Neopet St... I do know a pair of crazy's who live there though. Psst, don't tell them that, they still think they're sane!
  19. She did mention she looked after the tanks at her work, (us usual, I'm drawing a blank), and is getting one of the display tanks for herself too. Super nice lady. 8) Rusty is being a brat. Sort of. Is it bratty to try and mate with everything in sight?
  20. There's a lovely lady that will attending the next meeting who's just starting out with tropicals - you must all be nice to her!! (Unfortunately I didn't catch her name )
  21. Congrats on the job!! It sounds pretty nice, especially with the staff discount. *drool* My work gets horrendous amounts of people applying for jobs. The last time we advertised we got 90 applicants for the one part time position. Although it's pretty easy to sort through the CV's and figure out which ones just want to pet the animals all day... The strangest 'applicant' had to be the lady who called up on behalf of her 11 year old son who could come in on the weekends for "work experience" and get paid for it! I don't know what she thinks it is we do here, but I still wonder if an 11yr old sales professional would get any sales...
  22. Foxjxa

    Low pH

What's your ammonia like? I would think it's something to do with the amount of waste being produced vs your filtration/bacteria.
  23. I used to feed my Royal a mixture of sinking shrimp pellets, flake, freeze-dried bloodworms and algae wafers and he seemed happy... Right up 'till the day he vanished. :-?
  24. I'm a manly man. 8) ...Well at least I don't spend as much time doing my hair as Phoenix does!!
  25. All my naughty fish have been banned from my house... (There's a very fat and very naughty Choc Talking Catfish now living in Wangas!) Either that or they were eaten by my 'good' fish.
