  1. Hey, you can probably find some rats that need a new home on the NZ Rat Rescue site: www.nzrr.org or on the ratclub forum: www.ratclub.org Good luck!
  2. Oswald just passed away in his sleep. We were sorting out which bed he would spend the rest of the night in (he was cuddled into my arm) when he stopped breathing. There was no blood, he didn't struggle, he just stopped breathing... We couldn't resuscitate him. I can't work out exactly why he died, but a closer look at his beak revealed that his bottom mandible was split right through from tip to base. Not very nice. Poor wee guy.
  3. I don't need a volcano in my room so I'll watch out for the meat! Right now the magpie is sleeping on a towel on my lap. He's not very good at keep his balance while sleeping on a perch yet. He's so chilled out now! We're considering the name Oswald.
  4. Should I worm him while I'm at it or would the wormer sting his beak? (I have the stuff that you add to water) Can I sex it or should I just call it "it" forever?
  5. There is currently a baby magpie sitting on top of Treo's cage looking at me. I found it on my way to work this morning and it appears to have a chip at the end of it's bottom mandible. When I got home after work I managed to syringe-feed it some watered down cat food and it even ate some chunks by hand, but I noticed that it's beak was bleeding steadily where it had chipped and called the vet. The vet seemed more worried that once I released it, the bird wouldn't be able to eat properly and die so I should just get it put down. Didn't really answer my question and couldn't suggest anything else but the bleeding seems to have stopped now *touch wood* and I've cleaned the dried blood off of it's beak with a wet tissue. Baby magpie is now walked/hopping/attempting to fly around the bird room and my bedroom but is extremely uncoordinated. It will randomly call for food from time to time and I've been feeding it accordingly. It also just squawked AT me and my partner while we were staring at it. Now what do I do?
  6. My 17cm Sen thought it would be a neat idea to swim up the intake pipe while he was at work. A little girl almost cried because she thought he was dead, but he was just chillin'.
  7. I was just thinking that. I got down to the "thumb pic" and became too grossed out to continue my e-stalking.
  8. That's not what I was told. How is it not?
  9. Animates do free water tests, yup yup.
  10. Depends how cute the kids are.
  11. I'm only there on the weekends, and P44 is allergic to regular work!!! (Don't deny it.) PN Animates has been severely understaffed for the past couple of months or so, it's eerily quiet on Mondays now. And you can thank our new "fish maintenance guy", Robert, for the quality of the tanks. He's doing a fantastic job IMO, especially compared with what the store's previously put up with. I reckon you should've picked up the ship and made a noisy exit - it would've been hilarious. 8) Plus it would've kept them on their toes for the rest of the day and given me something to tease them about!
  12. Ew But otherwise it's good to hear that you're making progress!! I'd imagine the fishies will be very vulnerable to disease and infection after all these operations, good luck.
  13. I've had this before! Although my bubbles were rounder and the worm more curled up. I also found that it did not affect the fish's behavior much, but after time it looked like the worm had "bitten too deep" and the bubble filled with blood. Still didn't affect the fishie. I couldn't treat it with anything either, or even identify it! Eventually it spread from one fish to a second so I culled the infected. Using tweezers the bubble is easily popped and the worm can be removed, but good luck attempting that without killing the fish. Once the infected fish were removed, it didn't appear in my tank again, so I'd recommend getting rid of your wee guy. Or at least keeping him in a separate tank. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
  14. I read all the links posted in this thread, as well as looking up my own and I feel terrible. My family and I used to watch "The Lion Man" tv series regularly and were all delighted about the new baby white tigers. I can safely say that won't be happening again as we are all against inbreeding - especially when there's no good reason for it! (Looks/Money/Popularity are not good reasons IMO) It makes me feel sick.
  15. What a cutie!! Bubbles is very sweet. It makes me think of a youtube vid I saw ages ago where a bird was running around on the floor popping bubbles as they came down. I'd love to re-enact that, except that I suspect Treo would think they were big bubbles of death and flee.

 omg that's an ugly medal  JOKING! OT: You can get very good deals there if you talk to the right person. The black/brown Ctenopoma that they've had there for over a year now, [listed as a Leopard Ctenopoma for ~$140], was once offered to me for $40 due to his bung gill.... and because the guy was awesome.
  17. Woops! I forgot to write that the one in September is just a "Pet Fun Day", NOT an "Aqua Fun day". Pet days are twice yearly, Aqua days are once yearly. I just checked my old emails and Pet fun days have lots of BOGOF specials on cat/dog stuff, I didn't see anything about fishy stuff in the flier. My bad! There are different weekend specials that sometimes include fish stuff, though. You get an email about them if you're a club member.

I was a member of the Peter and Nicholas fan club! *waves a flag* They used to let me feed their dat, and play with the eel. 8) They have some beautiful fishies there, though. Good place to get decent-sized fish from if you don't want to grow them up yourself.
  19. There's one on the 19th-20th September. They mostly focus on dog and cat food, I can't recall heaps of tank specials. But then again my memory is faulty.
  20. Apparently they pluck out eyes if they're feeling nutty. But I'd agree with what others have said, they shouldn't be aggressive if you get one young/small enough and raise it with your fishies. Just keep it fat. Constantly obese. <3
  21. Upside down munchkin kitty!
  22. To the OP, My leopard ctenopoma truly believes he is invisible, and will sulk once he realizes that you can actually see him. He also enjoys the company of smaller fish, though he hasn't tried eating any of them since he choked on a honey gourami, kuhlis seem to like cuddling underneath him. Falkor, my albino sen, snuggles with any and every fish he sees. He acts like he's blind and often smashes into plants, driftwood and the sides of the tank even when he's only at 'cruising speed'. He is also a 'tard in every possible way. Sir Squiggles the BGK is fearless and loves people and fish alike! He will dig underneath a 20cm chocolate talking catfish - that could easily rip his tail off - in the search for food. He also squiggles! 8) Not fish related: Treo, an Indian Ringneck, acts all macho and tough when confronted with a new bird but will turn tail and flee at the first chance he gets. He's terrified of Phoenix44 and my partner, and would rather leap off the top of his cage (he cannot fly) than be picked up by either of them. Once cornered, however, he will try and 'kiss' his way out of the situation. He also rages at his cement log when he accidentally rolls it onto his toes during play time. And Kitty likes sitting on top of Treo's cage and rolling on her back in an attempt to show him that she just wants to play. Yesterday, she rolled right off his cage... and had the sense to look embarrassed. <3 I love my babies.
