  1. While we're at it, why don't we put all our 'naughty' fish in one tank? I know of a few more potential tank mates...
  2. Try rearranging the cage and then putting the new bird in just before the older one. Birds, like people, need time to adjust to newcomers. Especially if they're crazy. *coughRUSTYcough*

    Another Newbie

Dun dun dun Dun dun dun!! Welcome!
  4. I'm going in tomorrow. Maybe I'll just get them then. =/ *grumble grumble* Alright. They wouldn't all fit anyway...
  5. OMG!! First, congrats on the engagement, it's wonderful to hear you're doing so well! I'll ask around as well, there are plenty of people who would be willing to take in a well trained bunny like Buddy, I'm sure. I mean, who doesn't like their headphone wires been chewed up? All the best, and beware of terrorists!
  6. David R, They sound fascinating! They'll have no trouble getting food in my tank if they hunt like that. Do you often catch them yawning? I love their mouths, they're amazing. Phoenix, If you only ordered another one, are the current two on hold? I can just see myself running after customers asking if I can buy their fish. It'd cost me a fortune! P.S. I'm buying all the plants. I'll tackle anyone who gets in my way.
  7. I'll be getting 3 hopefully. I'm just rearranging the plants and wood in my tank to make some extra hidey holes for them. Wow that's fast. Your ones must be little pudge-muffins!! Do they actively chase the fish or wait for it to pass by? Edit: Mr Invisible is pretty hopeless at catching fish during the day... but then the lights go out... 8) So there shouldn't be too much competition for food from him.
  8. She's coming home with me tomorrow! She'll love it; lots of space to herself, some gourami's for company, plenty of light and food... she just has to ignore the (relatively) giant fish stalking her.
  9. The ctenopoma seems to have stopped growing as he's been the same size for the last year (and longer, according to the guy I bought him off), and I know he won't be able to fit the nadus' (~5cm) in his mouth. The bichir is about 15-17cm atm and growing slowly, I'm betting he'd take a swipe at one until he realised that he couldn't eat them in one go either... In fact I've never seen him eat food slowly or break it up into pieces if it's too big to swallow - is this normal senegal behaviour or is mine just a fatty? And the BGK is teeny tiny, he will be going into a bigger tank the minute he can fit another fish in his mouth though... I'm not worried about feeding live food, there are always deformed fish coming in at work. And my current babies are pretty slow at catching food anyway - 5 neons survived in my tank for 3 days before they were finally noticed! (The Nandus' seem to be more onto it) I just realised my tank is full of baby fish. How cute.
  10. You weren't supposed to see the tank like that!! Your plants will be fine once I get the new gravel in and everything's sorted. For now they can float and be wonky.
  11. This'll probably be a silly question, but I'm willing to look stupid if it means my fish will survive! Are Nandus Nadus (Hope I spelled that right) and Leopard Ctenopoma compatible given enough space and hiding places? I currently have my L.Ctenopoma, Mr. Invisible, in a 200L tank with an albino senegal polypterus, a BGK and 3 large gourami's for company. He's one of my favourite fish and I'm not willing to compromise his safety or position as top of the tank hierarchy, however there are a bunch of funky little Nandus Nandus floating around Palmy atm and I would love to own a small pack of them. I'll be adding a large amount of plants to my tank in the coming week as I'm doing a complete overhaul of my tank, so there will be plenty of hiding places for everyone!

    Raphael

I have sand in my tank and all my old CTC would do was shuffle the substrate around and make a little 'hollow' in a corner, then sit in it. It was almost as if he were making a little nest. Either way it disrupted my plants, hence why I no longer have him. Never saw him try and bury himself though, interesting...
  13. You better set up that nano soon, your blue/red fighter is anxious to get out of his guppy breeder and take on my golden gourami! I'd take a pic and post it for you, but your camera is way better quality than anything I could use... I might pick up a bigger guppy breeder for your guy, I feel so guilty... Hopefully this one will be 'into' your girls.
  14. Advice: Don't kill him. He looks better in your tank than he did at the store. I still think he looks evil though. Evil in a pretty kind of way. =) Does he get along with the BGK's or does he just ignore them?
  15. Argh, I only just got to this thread! I'm so sorry to hear about this - I haven't even had the chance to visit the park yet!! You'll find a donation towards your Weetbix-related expenses in your account tomorrow. It's not much, but it's all I can afford on my budget atm - I shall spread the word! Best of luck!

    New Tanks

I've had a tank shipped from Aucks to Palmy by whichever company Greg (tanks2u) uses and it arrived in perfect condition. I've also had one shipped from Redwood aquatics (wherever that is) to Palmy without even a scratch. It all depends on the freight company I guess.

    aqua day

Depends on your local store. The one in palmy now has an Ornate bichir, baby Clown Knife and some fancy plecos. 8) If you're after a particular fish though, you can just order it in... Does no one ask about these kinds of things?

  19. Golden Algae Eater. Sorry, I should've written that somewhere. >.
  20. Just the other day I decided to take home a particularly large GAE (about 15cm - about the same size as my Sen now!) and 'test it out' in my oddball tank as I've just gone through a bit of an algae bloom. Luckily for me and my fish, after deciding that he/she is the biggest fish in the tank, the GAE settled down and almost instantly gained a friend. Turns out my Albino Senegal is either a) REALLY poor-sighted and thinks the GAE looks like a Senegal or b) just a very friendly fish, because after about 10mins of having met the new arrival he 'cuddled' up beside the GAE, much like he does with the Choc Talking Catfish and the Pleco I've got in there. Surprisingly, the GAE didn't take off in a cloud of sand, and since then I've often seen the two resting side by side just like they're gonna be... Best Friends Forever!! Although when the GAE isn't in the mood for a fishy cuddle, it'll cruise off to a different part of the tank for some alone-time, leaving poor Bubba Sen lying their looking bewildered! Hopefully there won't be any problems in the future, but I've got a tank on standby just in case. I'll try take some pics, but the GAE still isn't used to me and zooms away anytime I come close.
  21. Another Feildingite!! We're taking over NZ, I swear. 8)
  22. Hopefully that particular store will get wind of this and clean up their act. If it's part of the same franchise as I am, it's in their non-negotiable standards that they must greet every customer and at least attempt to help them. Maybe you should just come down to Palmy, we'll take care of you! Edit -- It seems I cannot spell "greet" correctly.
  23. I thought that kind of stuff was common sense? I hope no one's given you false information before. I, for one, admittedly don't know everything and I'm sure as heck not scared to tell a customer "I'm sorry, I don't actually know, I'll just go ask my manager.".
  24. broms2, it sounds like what happened to you was a combination of human error and lack of knowledge. This shouldn't really be news to anyone, but the franchise in question are not "big" on fish. Having been recently employed by said franchise, I was surprised to find out just how little the staff know about the fish they are selling - and this is not their fault either; during the training there is only a very small amount of time dedicated to the fish in store - they are taught the basics, that's all, and because fish isn't exactly everyone's passion they don't feel the need to do more research. (Training guidelines are set by Head Office btw) While the Head Office is slowly realizing the large gap in it's knowledge, I'm lucky in that my manager is already taking steps to improve the 'fish knowledge' of her staff. It's already noticeable how the quality of service in the fish department is improving and I, for one, am most pleased. It's a shame that other stores around the country are lagging behind, but hopefully they'll pick up soon and everyone, fish included, will benefit. Also, if anyone happens to drop past the store in Palmy, feel free to come brag to me about your fish. *Nudge nudge Rozski* I want to learn as much as possible so I don't end up rubbish!
