  1. Glad the little fella is eating now. Gosh it can be scary when they take so long to start eating!
  2. She is nice and bright. Bright yellow back legs is often an indication that the leo will colour up well as an adult :-)
  3. I personally would rather amputate the tail rather than risk losing the leo and let it finish the course of antibiotics to ensure all possible bacteria is dealt with. If the tail has turned black and is dry the chance of it eventually falling off is very high. If it becomes moist and weepy then the infection is likely getting worse.
  4. If it is bacterial and does not show signs of healing relatively soon after taking antibiotics I would think the best course of action is to amputate to avoid further infection. Is the affected area quite dry or is it moist and weepy?
  5. How is it looking now? Can you take a picture?
  6. That is amazing Donna. Thank you for sharing. You are a fantastic example of an animal lover......inspiring
  7. Gosh I miss my albinos back in SA I am really hoping that albinos pop up at some point. If someone does manage to breed out an albino it will take a further 2 generations to get more, if the breeder understands the genetics.
  8. Reptilenutt those 2 are so cute! Almost identical I incubate mine in just about any tupperware I have on hand but I do add ventilation holes. The vermiculite is wet to the point that when you squeeze it into a ball it stays in a ball and is just damp and not pouring water from being zqueezed. I open the tubs once every 5 to 6 days and check the vermiculite to see if it is drying out. If I think it is a bit dry I give the tub a spray from a srapy bottle. This method has worked very well for me. I rarely have fungal issues. Have used many different kinds of incubators over the years from different home made ones to store bought. I am currently using the ReptiPro 5000. It is awesome. The reason why I like the GEO and the SIM is because the eggs are off of the incubation medium which seems to do away with fungal and waterlogging issues. The eggs have also proven to hatch faster for some reason. Cant wait to give it a try.
  9. Awesome. Have been keeping records of my breeding and will continue to do so. Thanks Livingart
  10. Perfect. Let me know when you have more info. If I had to choose it would the the US Geo that I prefer as well. Thanks Doug.
  11. The Sim and the GEO are both great products. I am happy to get my hands on either one. The $US does have a better exchange rate at the moment but the freight may be much more expensive. Will you be looking into it Doug? I am really keen to get some.
  12. Awesome pics! Thank you for sharing
  13. Do you think we will have trouble with MAF if and when we do produce a new strain? I am asking because people have mentioned that they dont have a full understanding of breeding and genetics. Will they assume that the person has done something illegal or will they understand that they have been breeding certain individuals and heldback offspring that seem to be promising in terms of their colouring? It is something that I have thought of often. It will be exciting if one day an albino pops up. Just wondering if it will be received well.....
  14. I am definatley interested in a few
  15. Hey Alan. I agree, his leo's are gorgeous and look very healthy. I understand that you should not give all your secrets away and I am not suggesting that anyone should. I entered this thread on the basis of breeders helping other breeders. I also agree that people think that they can make a quick buck but that is far from reality. There is so much work and dedication involved in breeding quality herps. I dont know the breeder and am not trying to stand against him. You can plainly see that his leo's are healthy and well looked after so I think that buying from him is a good investment. I think that people are just paranoid about buying a leo and being told it is a male and then it turns out not to be (happened to me twice). If the breeder sees this please accept my apologies from one breeder to another. I did not mean to offend anyone
  16. Yes we see that. I think people are referring to the auction where he states that the sexing of the leo's is a breeders secret. I think that generally people are tired of the secrecy. People dont want to spend money on something that they are not sure about.
  17. Yes I think it is headed in the right direction.
  18. You're welcome. Just something I would like to say to all the leo owners on here. I agree with what was said earlier about us needing to help each other. I come from SA where things are very different when it comes to the attitude amongst reptile owners. I understand that SA is huge and there is so much available and that NZ is small with not that much to offer and people get paranoid about theft but we really need to be more of a community and share info. There is so much available on the net but personal experience shared is invaluble. People may disagree on some points but that's ok. It comes down to personal experience. C'mon guys....what do you say......
  19. I found the link. Read this, it's very interesting.... http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=26095&highlight=sexing Let me know what you think
  20. Apparently someone in the states has found a way to sex really young juvies using a maglight. Basically the theory goes that you shine the maglight onto the tail/hemipenal area and if you see veins running to where the hemipenes are meant to be its a male and the lack of veins is a female. Will try and find the link for you.
  21. Oh my gosh the poor turtle! Imagine having those things all over you!
  22. I have never had an issue at all in all my years of breeding so it doesn't sound good but let's hope that all the tips help solve the problem
  23. You temps are fine. If you are confident that they are in good health then give brumation a try. It may help trigger egg production. Yours is an extreme case so I agree with Alan, it is worth a try.
