  1. is this thread serious? if so 20 in a 4x2 with those tank mates would be a overkill... honestly i would say 6-8?
  2. are not these the ones that they have decided to make IHS for? im sure they are... But even so yes it will be many years before the IHS is up and running...
  3. I would hate to thnk of the cost of quarantine though? fish are expensive and dont really cause any harm to our eco-system... being that NZ has many native bird species i think it will be hard and very expensive for a individual to import...
  4. just having a look on MAF website too see what IHS the are creating over the next 2 years... on the list there is... item 54 Live parrots from all countres can anyone clear this up??? is this for zoos? http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/regs/imp ... 11-ihs-dev
  5. sorry i dont follow? do you have a link to the products?
  6. but you see the problem is the shop assistant doesn't know that you are an experienced fish keeper and you know their stuff... Time is money and LFS find it hard to make ends meat, so they try and sell sell sell because after all thats the name of the game and the reason why they are in business... I mean if you are not making money why bother? not many people do it for charity? If you don't want help just say to them ill grab you when i need some help so they know not to bother you again.
  7. Ok well i am getting leopard geckos in 2 weeks now if all goes well... I am going to start a log on my set-up to make sure everything is ok for my little additions... Firstly I need to sort my heat source, I cant seam to find a heat mat that fits my needs... I can only find the ones that heat 10 degrees over current room temperature, I don't want to use light for my heat source. I am after a heat mat with a temperature gauge on it? any ideas?
  8. i would say dont use any substrate, they are VERY messy critters and it makes cleaning so much easier if they have no substrate... Keeps your water cleaner longer and you can see all the poop easily, also they are VERY messy eaters... I reccomend a good filter, and you dont need to fill the tank to the top as they dont really swim in the upper layers, this allows for mayby a smaller filter but you are acctually over filtering which is always good... DONT keep with goldfish!!!! goldfish nip at them... They are wicked pets... i would say a 3ft tank would be perfect for them.
  9. if you breed at that age it is up to the individual...
  10. many people who buy from animates are... not using this forum dont have a correct understanding of fish (and other products) to shop arround correctly dont have any expecdations from the server on detail knowledge
  11. not paying $4500 for a poor specamin... if it was healthy it would be a steal... at 7 years of age its ready to breed and would be a sound inverstment.
  12. depends on what the spiders are as some are toxic and would kill your frogs.
  13. also selling those snakes at that price you would have to be nuts!!!
  14. if they where located in NZ Maf would have gotten their ISP and kicked down the door by now.
  15. also if your paying someone to do it much cheaper, because you would be paying for time... even better get the glass and the silicon and DIY... easy and MUCH cheaper
  16.
  17. Note: Zebra Pleco needs driftwood. Recommended temperature range: 26 - 30 C. [Display in Farenheit] Recommended pH range: 6 - 7.5. Recommended hardness range: 1 - 15 dH. You have plenty of aquarium filtration capacity. Your aquarium filtration capacity for above selected species is 777%. [What's this?] Recommended water change schedule: 13% per week. Your aquarium stocking level is 47%. [Generate Image] [What's this?]
  18. No chance that the law will ever change, zoos cant keep them so we will never keep them.
  19. and your level in reptile keeping determines the snakes you can have.
  20. looks good as new... good job in giving her the home she deserves (if she is she not a he )
  21. if you walk in on him in the morning and hes 6ft in length and hes green keep it hush hush ok :) haha sounds like a awsome little pet.
  22. they are very easy going creatures... and very cheaky :) big tank... clean water... big filter... good UV bulb and there will be no issues
  23. i would stay away from substrate, not only can i occur impactation if eaten it also will make your tank harder to clean and will also cause a big mess... go bare bottom, i would say no point to the plants for nitrogen cycle, because of your big weekly water changes it would do much... thats risky but some cool photos... ive been bitten by a bay read eared slider and it really really hurt id hate to think what one of those could do!!! break your finger mayby? defantly pierce the skin!
