  1. apparently sand isnt a good idea either as they tend to slide around on it and freak out i used to use round peebles from the warehouse easy to syphon around and way too big to eat
  2. what makes a quality convict ? my females have nice bright colours and grow to be quite large
  3. we are with vodafone had nothing but problems with telecom and telstra with telstra expect to wait up to an hour on the phone trying to get hold of them unless you have a mate in the call centre you can txt and get to call you

    Jager Heaters

ive seen a lot with condensation in them still working fine i have a jager 300w about 6 months old no condensation yet ive had condensation in an elite 1 out of the 5 ive owned/own
  5. theres a place in byron street across the road from tasman traders i forget the name of it they fabricate shop fittings and use a lot of plastics i bought black corflute there cheaply i know they use acrylic for some of the things they make they may be able to wholesale you some cheaper than getting it from a glazier
  6. phospates can also cause algae problems could just be in your water naturally but id try the advice about light first
  7. hmmm thanks for the suggestions badis badis is dario dario now isnt iot? i have seen one of these i thort it was some kind of cichlid i would like to own ember tetras also look cool just worried if i had 4 or 5 of them then there would be much room to school unless i added a sump and took the decorations out!
  8. are you hassling my bedside lamp? 8)
  9. they are nice looking fish ive never seen them for sale here though
  10. is the hood in two pieces i.e the filter can be lifted out of the hood completey? and an al- d light sat in the gap instead
  11. have a small tank on my beside cabinet have made up a canister filter from bits and pieces using a 400lph powerhead to run it. the filter including piping probably holds around another two litres the powerhead and small elite 50w heater are hidden by a fake stump . lighting is about 20 leds did originally have a betta in there it died months ago so put some convict fry in for a while they are now too big so have been rehomed just after suggestions other than another betta to see if theres anything out there that mite be suitable i dont want suggestions of daphnia or boatmen either guys  there must be something cool and small out there thats gunna stay small on the box the tank came in it said it was suitable for up to four goldfish but dont worry i wasnt that guillible
  12. i think its a good guide but what some people tend to get away with is amazing atm i have a tank with 1 figure8 puffer, a small (atm ) fire eel ,6 brown haps(small) a couple baby convicts and about 30 peacock fry and an adult peacock i was too scared to type this into the stocking tool by the way filter is fluval 104 with a small internal filter and an airstone whilst im getting away with it at the moment its not permanent as i know im gunna have problems down the track like monbsterous fire eel eating everything but at the moment even the peacock fry which are 1cm long stripped last week are not being eaten
  13. if you go to a lighting wholesaler you should be able to get 6500k pl18w tubes cheaply otherwise go for the triphosphor its a nice white light not so yellow
  14. you got that bloody cheap i would run it from a separate pump so you can adjust the flow rate as needed so you're not blowing the dand out of it they can awesome biological capacity so just watch the surface has enough turbulence to add extra oxygen as the bacteria will consume a lot of o2
  15. haha we got the paddock just no bands but the day is still young
  16. im having a party its good weather and i have a huge deck and a loud stereo and no neighbours so no point going anywhere really
  17. i run an aquiss 2200 with a swimming pool paper cartridge filter as a pre filter there is a pondmaster pump running inline to boost the pressure before the pre filter . im also running a broken sicce genio external on a 7l tank its powered by a 400lph pump in the tank it works well . also my fluval 1o1 is helped out buy a small internal filter. it may be easier to use a tray above the tank like a top filter than find a water tight container and plumb it so its water tight
  18. i dont think that pump would be suitable, some of the pond pumps you can buy bigger higher quality ones(i have a 1300lph pondmaster) can be used inline the pump would most likely have to be below the water level ,not above the tank as it would be too difficult to prime otherwise
  19. if you get a heater and set it 22deg you should be right but i would reccommend bristlenoses over the big common plecos as they get huge(may or may not be a problem to you) also they tend to knock scales off goldfish when swimming around at night
  20. i have a python http://www.pythonproducts.com/aqprod.html they are quite expensive however you can buy the venturi piece from TM or some lfs and make up your own piping just remeber to have an on off tap near the tank end as they have incredible suction if you are connecting to a kitchen mixer tap you need an adaptor which normally comes with the venturi piece its a white piece of plastic crap and is normally useless after a couple of goes but metal ones are availible on TM or for CHCH people at 'mikes not just fishing' in carmen road
  21. if i could have found all the species i have in my african tank there would be like a page of warning lol there was already about 20 after i added the first 15 fish. another thing is it doesnt take into account the age of the fish
  22. a few different male peacocks nice bright colours just get males so you dont get inter breeding
  23. just trying out my new camera
  24. try krill or plankton its really high in protien or maybe the jbl freeze dried daphnia its called novodaph
