I can't grow snails! I'm trying to breed them in one of my tanks to feed my puffer, but they've just settled a a pretty low population.

I've always thought of discus more as the drag queens of fish...

I could do with running one of those on my tank for a few days.

And you'll probably find that at night if there's a light on in the room they're in they'll orient themselves with their nose up or down so the light is about directly "above" them.

Hmmm, that's an interesting idea. How is that section you have the water trickling over plumbed into the rest of the system? Maybe you can remove the cold side and drop that whole part into the sump with just some extra hardline back to the dehumidifier? Should make it cool better. It must be made of something that won't corrode much, and it's a FW tank so I don't think you need to worry too much about it being in the sump...It wouldn't be any worse that way than collecting the water that's trickled over it anyway.

Feed him small children. You can collect them at any school around 8 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. Feed them whole and live or diced. Hehe, You can feed them just about anything, I think, they like strawberries and grapes I've heard.

I'm using a Laguna PJ5000. Does 6000LPH@0 head, somewhere around 4500 at 5ft. Cost me $180 and I think Dogmatix may be able to get you one similar for a similar price. They're very quiet. Normal retail is like $360, so if you had to pay that much, I think going for the Iwaki if you can get it at $550 starts to become a good alternative.

Ok, I've swapped it with one of my older 10K bulbs. The old one just looks SO much brighter than the 16K bulbs. A lot yellower though. Might try a 12K next time I replace them. The one I just yanked out has some flakes of glass floating around in it, can't figure out where they came from, I don't see any chips inside it. Oh, and I went out earlier and my Sebae clown was fine. Came home after about 2-3 hours and he was dead. No idea why. Nitrates are a higher than I'd like, about 25, but that shouldn't have bothered him. PH and KH are both 8, salinity 1.027. Looks like I'll be buying a LOT of fish in a few months when I go to Christchurch. If I can find some I want.

Tried that, got 3rd degree burns on my fingers, who knew MHs got so hot? hehe, Nah, I haven't done that yet. Lights are due to go out in an hour so I'll probably try swapping to one of the old ones tomorrow.

Seems to be as far as I can tell.

Very annoying, the bulb is only about 4 months old, but it's gone out 4 times today that I've noticed after a minute or two it lights again. Time to replace it, I guess. I don't want to spend money on bulbs! I wanna spend it on livestock!

Just put a Sieo in my tank that I got from Steve. Pretty cool. MUCH smaller than I was expecting. It's about the same size as my Viaaqua powerheads, but about 3 times the flow. The flow seems to dissipate by about 2 feet because it's so wide, but that means you don't have to try and point it at stuff on the other side of the tank, I guess.

I do all my water changes with rainwater. It's always a perfectly neutral PH every time I check of 7.

Yeah, it will build up aerobic bacteria. But, I don't think it'll be enough to worry about. Your best bet, IMO is to simply have water running through it continuously even when the compressor isn't running. Then you don't have to worry about what happens when the water flow is stopped.

Even I have some that must be a foot long. Kind of amazing seeing a bristleworm crawling out of this tiny hole that you're sure isn't very deep, but it still keeps going, and going, and going, and going and going and going and going....
