  1. I'm not sure what you mean by filter foam. Filter wool? I don't usually bother with it, it just clogs up too fast. Replace it with more ceramic noodles.
  2. Laying the pump on its side will be just fine. It doesn't care a bit how it's oriented. They're only usually oriented blowing upwards so you can have a nice pretty fountain.
  3. I'd suggest using one of the attachements that are already there for the outlet or inlet. Why waste them? I'm guessing form the looks of it you're planning to have a pipe running from the bottom of the filter up through the media out the top? That looks like it'll be a huge pain in the butt. I'd also use a bigger pump than a 1500LPH, I wouldn't be surprised if you only got 500lph out of the filter.
  4. You replace the sponge when it's falling apart. Maybe every 10 years.

    seio m1100

You mean two of them would be perfect. One on each side of the tank.
  6. *Hits back* Not spending 10 minutes downloading a movie if it doesn't have blood, something blowing up or naked chicks...

    6ft Tank

Not really any more work than you're planning. It just has a bit of salt in it. And pick up a fly culture from animates occasionally.

    6ft Tank

Make it brackish with a couple archers and japanese rush or some other overhanging type plant. Then you can put flies in it for the archers to shoot off the plants.
  9. Thought I'd give my new generator a try running a Laguna PJ5000 to pump water into jerry cans. Oh man, I've never collected water so easily! I think I'm going to have to do this all the time. Though, the pump's being choked by the 20mm or whatever normal gravel vac sized hose is, still took me about 1/4th the time to fill up all my containers that it normally takes.

    6ft Tank

The safety factor for that tank will be .86 The numbers the glass thickness calculator gives you are conservative and you're not likely to fill it ALL the way to the top, but do you really want to use a tank that if you get slightly weaker than average glass WILL break possibly and dump over 600 liters of into your living room only giving you time to say, "Oh s..."?

    Sand substrate.

There isn't enough salt in the sand even straight from the beach to be measurable. Let alone after giving it a rinse!
  14. And yes, sand and salt costs a lot less in the US. I think he said he was using southdown and ...Caribsea? Southdown is something like $50 NZ for a couple hundred pounds. If you can find it.

    hydra

Squirt some Kalk on it, works for other pest anemones.
  17. I disagree. I think it's more something to make a point of not thinking about...

    Sand substrate.

Give it a good wash and it should be fine.
  19. The equation is Mark R Square...No...Pies R...No, pi*Radius^2...Yeah, that's it.
  20. In otherwords, instead of doing something complicated and risky like putting the overflow in a cut out outside the to keep from losing 20 square inches or whatever, make the tank 20 square inches bigger.
  21. Because it uses up tank space...IMO, you should have that overflow cut out of the back extending out what 3"? Like in the picture, but then extend the sides to the left and right of it back 3" also...No point wasting that empty space to the sides of the overflow when you could fill that up with tank.
  22. Yeah, I was actually going to say that before, none of those look like pacus. The other two in your auction in the background, very bad picture, but they look like silver dollars to me too.
  23. If I was to do my tank over I'd get a nice steel framed stand instead of a ghetto one and it'd be deeper and maybe a bit less tall. And I'd have an in sump skimmer and either drilled returns or a sea swirl(Can still do that easy enough) And the sump would be rearranged and and and and...

    Ghost Shrimp

$10 for a handful of good sized ones would be fair. Yeah, I could go catch them for "free", but it'd cost me that much in time and petrol...
