    out door ponds

    Bigger is better.
  2. Just for my own curiousity I just checked the temp of my tapwater, let it run for a minute or two first. It's 8.1C according to my thermometer.
  3. Ammo lock tends to both give false positives on ammonia tests and slows your cycle.
  4. You do realize that all that glass is in contact with a very large volume of water that does a very good job of absorbing any heat from the glass, right? Try putting a paper cup on the fire, it won't burn except above the waterline.
  5. Why are you taking it from the bucket to the tank in a jug? Just pour it straight in.
  6. ......What smell? Only time there's any smell I can notice from my tanks is when I do a water change. Freshwater tanks that you don't take care of stink too.
  7. I'd go with something similar to the pump Hans linked to, or slightly better. I have a laguna PJ5000 which is a little over 6000 liters per hour that gives a good amount of flow from my sump to my 300 L tank. So would be perfect, imo.
  8. I've never had any water marks :-?

    Sumps

Yes. There are many, or most that have the hole drilled into the bottom of the tank. Or you can use a HOB overflow, but they're not the preferred method, much less reliable.

    Sumps

Yeah, a good sized pond pump will work. Advantage is MUCH more media space and MUCH more water volume and it gets gear out of the main tank.
  11. You're not going to get them much cheaper than that.
  12. They're jets that are under the gravel, I would have thought that was obvious enough. They're for circulation.
  13. I've got a rusty stainless steel hoseclamp from Bunnings... Took a while to rust though.
  14. Hmmm, They do have a website... Looks like all they have that might be useful is a mention that they have pond liner.
  15. Heh, Stone and water world is a bit out of my area. Alan, I figured sealing it would keep the lime out anyway, so what's the point?
  16. Anywhere that might be easy to get the additives you mentioned? I was thinking that it I wouldn't need any special concrete if I painted the concrete with something to waterproof it?

    White Angelfish

But white angle fish do tend to start off acute but then as they get larger they get right and then a bit obtuse.
  18. Sure, if you can't find a more expensive way to feed them, that will work...

    Chilly

So, the last water change I did on one of my tanks was about 2 weeks ago...And apparently I forgot to plug the heater back in! It's at just under 19° right now and I'd imagine it's been there or lower for the last two weeks. No deaths, surprisingly. Yeah, I do have a temp alarm, it doesn't work well when it's turned off though.
  20. Ok, since I've finally got the **** pallets that were blocking my access to the bricks I wanted to make the pond out of(70 of them! Took me 4 months to chop them up!) anyway I will have more time off now, time to start doing some research... Anyone have any advice, instructions, links, etc for how to build a concrete pond? I'm thinking it'll be a fairly small one. L shaped maybe 2 meters on a side, half a meter deep, figure about 1500 liters. I was thinking I'll build a compacted sand base then surround out of red bricks and then concrete inside it. What would be good to reinforce the concrete with? Something like chicken wire seemed like it should work? Then I'll probably paint it with some kind of pond paint for extra sealing.
  21. Feed more of whatever, water change more. It's not complicated.
