  1. Arghhhh got to wait until Monday at the LFS so a senior manager can decide if the motor is faulty before they will replace it under warranty.... It stops and wont start up until you play around with the lead...Most frustrating to say the least

    FX5 OUTPUT UNIT

The output unit had a split as per supplied with the filter. Two Clown loaches got up there ,one was dead and bent at right angles and the other died soon after being discovered. The fish were 5 to 6 cm .We were very surprised to find them up there , I noticed things weren't looking normal in the tank so checked for dead fish , completed water changes but my Clowns kept dying .... checked the filter and hey presto found the cause .... All very sad. I have started rebuilding my collection have 4 now. The strainer attachment is doing its job, it doesn't interfere with flow etc... so fingers crossed .From the replies I think it's Hagen in Canada replying to my emails. It's been an interesting few weeks Gill

    FX5 OUTPUT UNIT

I recently have had problems due to two Clown Loaches taking a swim up the output unit during the purging process , they got stuck ... long sad story ,lost lots of fish. I have been emailing Hagen, and suggested they take a look at the design , they said I should take the filter back to where it was purchased and ask for a refund if the filter is not doing what it is designed too. Nothing wrong with the filter when it is working to full capacity but when fish can get into the output unit. I have since added the strainer attachment which is also on the intake end , this will prevent any more fish for sneaking up, an easy solution . Unfortunately Hagen didn't feel the need to offer any suggestions ... It may be a good filter but not happy with their customer service. They were more interested in me providing with proof of purchase and nothing else . Just thought I would post this to give a heads up to what has happened and alert other users to a problem which can be fixed with a slight modification, I would hate others to have the same thing occur especially with such adventurous fish such as Clown Loaches.. fish dying

All i have is wood in there , it has been in there for ages.Nothing is leading me to suspect it was the wood . I suspect it was the fish stuck up in the filter pipe . It was way up there and only came out when i flushed water through from the other end . The filter had been rinsed out with tank water 3 weeks ago . Weekly water changes ,Last week i noticed the fish spending more time at the top of the tank so i tested the water and the ammonia was up , started WCs, took water to test at LFS ammonia still a bit high , continued with WCs had a good look around the tank lifted all the wood etc, found a dead fish hidden deep in the cave ..., WCs WCs decided to check the filter again and we did a partial filter clean that's when the fish came out of the pipe... WCs added prime continued etc... A sad few days with three or four fish each day succumbing ....

    fish dying

In total 25 CLs have died in one week despite doing WCs and treating for ammonia. Absolutely gutted right now. LFS have not heard of fish finding their way up the inlet. What a terrible journey this has been. It has happened so fast . We are going to put some sort of net over the inlet to prevent CLs from getting in again, all we can come up with is that they snuck in there during the purging process. Got to get over the shock first but I will get some more eventually. Gill

    fish dying

I have no idea only that there was one stuck in the wood I didn't realise that the cave went so deep ,I wonder if he got stuck and couldn't get out . The BN lives there and he's big . There is still a little ammonia but its much lower and the filer is pumping like mad I can see the bubbles pouring into the tank . I will have to keep a much closer eye on it . When I picked up the wood about 10 swam out of a crack I didn't even think 10 could have fitted in there .I have removed the wood for now ...

    fish dying

After a 5 days of doing 50 % WCs day on my 600L tank due to unexpected high ammonia readings ( I gave up testing using my kits and went to the local fish shop to ensure reliable readings )also lifting wood and rocks to locate any rotting matter which unfortunately included dead clown loaches stuck deep in a wooden cave. I finally think I have found the problem a clogged FX5 which I only cleaned 6 weeks ago had two Clown Loaches stuck up inside where the water comes back inside the tank. No wonder the filter was struggling . I think they must have gone up there during the purging ... Filter rinsed out with tank water and blocked cleared . All up I have lost 8 of them :-( I will continue to do WCs but the remaining fish look to be recovering fingers crossed...
  14. Too fast re filling after a 50% water change wiped out 20 neons...
  15. I found this one http://www.loaches.com/articles/clown-l ... variations
  16. It was a bit tricky when the girl wasn't interested. I'm going to go back and try and see if i can speak to the owner or at least the other people working there. I think its a joint venture with the shop next door, which happens to be some kind of restaurant.Just gotta feel for the fish in there though. They had a tank with Angels but lots were either dying or dead and being eaten.
  17. Hi i have just been to a new fish shop in Highland Park . The fish look so sad some are dying and the girl in the shop had no idea about the fish .Why oh why do people do this
