  1. Nice! I have to say that when I first got into marines I wasn't so keen on firefish but they've definitely grown on me. The two together look great too! Re: Dottyback didn't see it either... must have been sold.
  2. Cool - have you taken any pics yet?
  3. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but when you increased the light that much did you need to acclimatise the corals to it?
  4. I'd be happy to give it a good home Wilson - if you don't already have a buyer of course! They do take a bit of looking after but I think they are worth it! Sorry Loopy don't mean to hijack your thread.. hwen do you think you'll be getting your tank anyway?
  5. Sun corals are beautiful - I have some of the ordinary ones but am now after the paler yellows ones. I haven't quite made up my mind about the black ones yet (never seen them available anyway!)
  6. No there isn't - I think we're all the advertising it needs! There is an email list you can join - just give them a call and you'll get a weekly email with all stock etc.... but having said that, as I see you're in Tauranga it may not be the most cost effective option for you.....
  7. so re the late night.... seems like we have an agreement that it's a great idea - now we just need to decide which night (oh and there's the very small matter of John's opinion!!!) I vote for Wednesday or Thursday!
  8. Ouch!! Well as I see it once is ok, it's only if you do it again that it's stupid!
  9. Yes it is, here's the link to the website: http://www.redseamax.com/redseamax/index.html They certainly have their pros and cons but I have one (first marine tank) and am happy with the decision to get it....... of course the next tank will be a different story....! Loopy, when I set mine up I played around in the shop with bits of rock to get a structure I was happy with and then took photos so I could replicate it later. Probably looked a bit odd for the other customers come to think of it! You can break it but it tends to crumble and not break exactly in the way you want (well at least for me) so I found it easier to use a couple of larger pieces for the basic structure and then use smaller bits to get the effects I was after like tunnels etc
  10. Good article thanks cONCH - particularly enjoyed the snippy comments re rejected research grant!!
  11. Well here's some anecdotal evidence of mine for observational learning... I feed the flame angel frozen brine shrimp and some fish pellets (alternately). I added a clown fish after a couple of months. The clown fish will go to the surface to get pellets as soon as they are added (and has done since purchase), which the angel has never done. It's now been a couple of weeks since the clown fish was added and now I see the flame angel going to the surface to get pellets also..
  12. Yes I liked those too! Loopy.... what's going in the RSM?!! (Can't help being nosey!!)
  13. It's photosynthetic gorgonian - they're just frags but have a really nice structure once they get growing. It is hard to get there during the week - we have to make a quick dash over there during my lunch!
  14. It always interests me how people who would never dream of speaking to someone like that face to face will be absolutely scathing in a forum. Pretty cowardly really
  15. I got one too, and I owe you one Matt so when it's big enough I'll let you know!
  16. Sounds like a great idea - definitely has my vote......even if it's just on new coral shipment days!
  17. great to see some night shots - there always seems to e more happening then! So..... has anyone been to Organism and if so is there anything left???!!
  18. Looking Good Wilson.... Still haven't done anything with our terrarium yet...... guess it will be next spring now!!!  Great to see the plants in there!
  19. So... nearly 7 posts a day!

    Hey =)

Hi and welcome! you'll learn lots here - I have anyway (spend most of my time here loitering in the marine section!) Goldfish aren't boring at all - I have some in a small pond outside and can spend ages looking at them....
  21. well the poor coral is not looking too good - it's trying to extend a few polyps but there is very little healthy tissue on the outside of the skeleton. It only really has live polyps inside that are essentially retracted. We've cut off as much as possible that's dead. Couldn't cut into good live bits as there really isn't a totally healthy section... I really am 99.9% sure it's history but can't quite bring myself to get rid of it.... quite yet anyway - I don't want to risk anything else Here it is as of a couple of minutes ago... http://picasaweb.google.com/EmmaVHamilt ... 3517125138
  22. Nah .... I'd rather have a coral..... or a refractometer!!!
