  1. I use seachem phosguard - have also had purigen in there. Just make sure that whatever you use you keep an eye on your test results and replace before they become ineffective.
  2. so you'll have 2! How's the new set up going anyway?
  3. fantastic photos! Keep them coming......!!
  4.  Those sea hares are cool - don't really think they have much in common with bunnies but oh well.....
  5. Yeah it has been a while since I posted anything and I haven't even been to Organism for a week or so......
  6. Maybe a local shop owner could purchase it and we could all scrap over the contents - I'd be making a beeline for the red chile coral and T. micrantha!! Seriously though are you sure you want to get rid of it? maybe you could just get a second tank and move the mandarins and cataphyllia out? After all the work you've put in it seems a shame to sell it.
  7. I'd be keen to get involved too. am just organising set up of a pod tank now. However I like the collecting idea - how and where is best in Chch?
  8. Great Conch! I am keen to grab some measurements etc so will organise that with you. When are you going to fit it?
  9. Great photos - fantastic to see a real habitat.
  10. Well obviously I'm pretty new to marine etc so no useful knowledge in that area but I do have some experience at putting together research proposals, ethics committee applications and writing etc for research (not in anything like this area though). However, if there's anything I can contribute I certainly will.
  11. Worked for me I'd like to get video of our CBS shedding!
  12. Awesome! great to get it on video.... it's a pity they just skimmed or eaten though.
  13. Yes..... I take your point, which as always, was well made! However in all seriousness I think the RSM is a great starter tank and has some really good points. I do believe it does fulfill the function it intended to which is to allow people to spend more time focusing on the livestock and water initially than deciding on the somewhat bewildering equipment (and combinations thereof) options available. Sure it has the drawbacks associated with a smaller tank as well as other specific issues discussed above. I would say though that I don't regret my purchase of a RSM and am now planing a 'bigger tank' or 'next tank', which would probably not have happened if this option hadn't been available. Please don't get me wrong - I'm not saying it's an easy way out of learning or doing research - but it does make the learning curve a little more gentle (even if not by much!!).
  14. I'd be keen to be a copy cat! Hope it goes well....
  15. The photos look great. Will be following progress with interest! well done! :bounce: :bounce:
  16. So now you have at least two expensive hobbies....!
  17. Sapphire

    Hi Im Melissa

Welcome!! Totally agree about watching fish - we have a small marine tank and to honest I can spend hours just watching (.... planning!!)
  18. Welcome! Nice pictures! :bounce: :bounce:
  19. Hmmm..... I quite enjoyed selecting my bits of rock (didn't enjoy the aqua kneadit so much) and putting a structure together. It also seems as though you would have more flexibilty with rubble/ rock unless you made your own in small pieces that could be moved around.
  20. Just had look a those links and making your own seems like a lot of work! Is it commonly done in NZ?
  21. They certainly do - it'll be interesting to see how they grow.
  22. I liked the colours but I think it took a while to get used to the shape of them - I got into marine because of the coral banded shrimp, flame angel and a couple of the lps corals that John had ..... I believe the CBS and flame angel that I saw were the ones that cONCH ended up with! Are you going to get another red fire fish?
