  1. Yes - he's very cool - a nice splash of colour. I am concerned though by the names of some our tank inhabitants .... there's a definite theme appearing.. the first stafish was patrick (although he divided and is now Pat and Rick!) and now we have spongebob. let's just hope we don't manage to track down a hermit crab!! Will put up some photos once the tank is looking a bit more established.....
  2. have you ever noticed how when you forbid something there is a tendancy to go out and do the exact opposite.........!! Pity John doesn't have any more clams...
  3. Hmmm shoes versus clam..... definitely clam! picked up my clam and star yesterday - clam looks awesome and the star has found a great place to hide. I have decided though that clams look better in a group.....
  4. cool - there was a great selection I thought! What about the bubble?
  5. yeah - unless of course things have been moved around since I was there Sat morning....??
  6. Wilson, which brain did you get? I'm picking up the red/orange one that was in the front left of the top tank on pay day... acro is in and looks great!
  7. Looks awesome! Do you still have the RSM?
  8. I thought it was amazing they all survived. Makes you wonder though how many don't get picked up..

    Some pics

Great photos - what is that coral in the 7th photo down - fantastic colour
  10. I've kept terraria in the past, and the best plants are those that have don't need lots of air circulation and don't mind being fairly damp all the time. In the frog tank they'll also need to be non toxic. Some of the best would be ferns such as rabbits foot fern, bird's nest fern and small Boston ferns or maybe button ferns - most of these you can get really cheaply as baby house plants at the nursery (or even supermarket). You could also try baby's tears - very small leaved creeper that looks a bit like moss. There are also things like philodendrons which will climb and can be trained. Spider plants are also very easy but do need a bit of light. If you have really low light peace lilys will be fine. Anyway - those are the ones I'm looking at to use!
  11. Nice pic ! how do you find the water - how often do you need to change it etc? I'm just wondering if there's any way to have some kind of removable system that still looks natural?
  12. Thanks Wilson Maybe I'll just stick the tadpoles in the outside pond and get a frog in a tank like yours!
  13. Cool frog - we have one in a small outside pond/bog garden. Don't see it that often though and every time we go to get the camera to take a photo of it on a lily pad it disappears! We also want to get a tank with tadpole/frog for my fiances daughter for Christmas - that tank of yours looks perfect. Do you think it could be used for tadpoles initially or would we need a standard tank for that?
  14. Great idea! our RSM is really only just getting set up (It doesn't even have any fish yet) but anyone is welcome to come and look! Just to confirm are the TT meetings always the first Saturday of the month? (So I can make sure I'm not away etc for the next ones!! - I would really like to meet everyone!)
  15. Welcome :bounce: I'm new and in CHCH too! Really useful forum - I've picked up heaps of information so far!
  16. I've done similar to you - but I moved the bag with carbon/phosphate remover to above the skimmer pump (where the mechanical filtration was - which I removed ages ago)- we seemed to get drops in water levels in the pump chamber which haven't happened since. I've also put cured pieces of rock in the chamber where the carbon and biofilter material go (still have the bio filer there at the mo) We'll be drilling holes tonight (again at John's suggestion). Hopefully that will make it run a little better and stop that rattling noise when the lid pops up! Everything seems tio be working ok though - water parameters fine and 0.0 Phosphate (on Salifert tests). EDIT: have now moved the carbon/phosphate remover back to it's original position (in the gap after skimmer) as it was affecting skimmer function!)
  17. They're beautiful! They must be fascinating to watch. I love them butdon't know anything about them - what are the water conditions needed.... (just out of curiosity - still have HEAPS to do in my first tank!!)
  18. awesome! Now that's an incentive to turn up!!
  19. Wilson I will be at the next meeting - had family turn up or I would have been at the last one.... can't wait to get in and see what's in the new shipment.... we were away at the weekend in Arthur's Pass so no shopping! Although tank is still very new so will have to take it slowly. Anyway if I have anything that gets to the point I can frag/propagate it I'm happy to share... Now I just have to learn how to it - which of course comes after keeping everything happy and thriving! (Just hope it's as easy as plants!). Having a ball though - I love my tank - now the tv has become obsolete... if only I could figure out how to make work go that way too, without losing the pay cheque.....!!!

Welome! I'm new too - just setting up my first marine tank. I also have a skmall outside pond with two fantials and three comtes (and assorted clean up crew). This forum is a great place to get advice - and there are some awesome pictures of what can achieved!
  21. Sorry Wilson - that was me! I'm sure it's grown already - even though my tank is currently a glorious shade of brown....diatoms! Still too new at this to have a clear favourite, but at the moment really like sun corals. I'd also really like a green torch but am not sure if I've got room long term (I have a RSM), coz I I also want lots of other things.....

    Hi - here I am

Welcome! I guess there are some addictions we don't want to be rid of - and I'm only in the process of succumbing (ie my bank balance won't let me!!)
