All good info, Cheers! Sinalei looks like where we'll end up staying, expensive but looks pretty nice. Looks like the dive boat from Sinalei does the Padi course, but I'm not sure we'll end up doing that. If we enjoy it then might do the Padi course here when we get back for any future dives.

We've been to Vanuatu before so are well aware of the stinking hot and humid conditions that the pacific islands provide. As for the snorkelling, will make sure before we go. Aparently there is a natural spring at the resort we plan on staying at, that has been tested and complys with NZ standards etc etc We'll be in Apia, but the other side of the island from the city (30 mins according to them, 25 miles) We can also go diving through our resort aswel, they appear to have good contacts with a diving outfit

Anyone here been to samoa for a Holiday? My partner and I are planning a trip around August, and would like to do a bit of snorkelling and attempt diving. Anyone who has been before, can they recommend the best accomodation, activities etc? Have been looking at Sinalei Resort for accom as it looks like theres a reef right on the beachfront

Hmmm i'm not sure i'd be able to use my closed loop idea though Running a 6500lph pump inside the filter box in the tank. If that goes into a sump, then am I going to be able to buy/make an overflow that will be able to keep up with it? Drilling the tank isn't an option as I'd have to empty it and theres no place for the fishies to go while I do it

Is it even worth me making a sump if the dims are 30lx30wx50h? cms

Did ya wanna sort something for that sun coral then? And does anyone know if its hard to build your own sump? I've got my old 70L tall tank that I'm quite keen to demolish and use the glass on building my own, unless its something that a "glass n00b" shouldn't be attempting?

I want to, but its gunna cost me $ that I dont really have, and if i'm gunna do it properly i'll need to take the tank off the stand so I can mod the cabinet. That and I'd need a HOB overflow because I dont want to be drilling the tank. I was considering buying a tank off trademe when a nice one came up (300 - 400 Litres on a Rimu stand etc), and modifying that with sump and everything, then transfer everything over once thats all sorted.

I've got one of those splish and splash aquariums (I dunno, 20 litres?) that I'll try. And I think i've got a 9w light hahaha Might chuck it in the tank cabinet, that way it looks like i've got a sump but really I dont haha. Got a 300lph pump thats unused so may aswel use that (might mod the lead on it tho cuz at the mo its 10metres!) Just gunna have to find some LR and substrate, I dont think I can get away with removing any from the tank

I'd never manage to syphon them, they're well and truely inside the rocks and I never see em during the day. As soon as the torch hits the tank at night they run and hide. I might try the sponge idea since John can get the Juwel stuff now, as I know there are sponges with large pores in them that are used in the Standard Juwel filtration systems. Maybe I should setup a small tank somewhere and try and breed the little buggers to sell off/give away/trade ? Cant imagine they need pristine conditions? Maybe I'll research that instead of doing work today haha

So over the past couple of weeks I've had my sneaky looks in my tank after the lights have been off for a few hours, and it would seem my tank is crawling with life during this time. It appears iv'e got hundreds and hundreds of amphipods and increasing. As I've got nothing in my tank that eats them (that I'm aware of) will it cause problems if they continue to multiply in the way that they are? Is there a way I can catch a few to distribute round the local CHC reefers that have Mandarins or other pod eating fish? Or should I just leave them to do their thing so when 1 day I finally do get a Dragonet or similar, it can have a field day?
