  1. I dont have a sump but I do have the filterbox in my tank, and I often find dead pods in my skimmer, which skims out from the filterbox. If u wanna try a sponge in there ur more than welcome to. I've just chucked a few clumps of liverock in there so it should end up as a pod breeding ground. Theres always tons of little shrimp type things running around on my substrate during the night. If you can think of a method of catching em I'll give that a try aswel? (Would the coke bottle trick with food work, or would I just catch myself a brittlestar?)
  2. Only used it once because it made my Ca skyrocket past 500ppm, since then have already been through a 10kg bag of the regular stuff
  3. CA I try to keep around 450, Alk about 10dkh, and MG is over 1500ppm at the moment, and I dont know why lol
  4. Yeah everything is good, its just spots everywhere
  5. My tank is about 9 months on and I'm still waiting for my coralline to take off so yes its a very slow process.
  6. I'm sure most of us are actually supposed to be working aswel
  7. So i'm not swearing enough then?
  8. Conch's have just laid eggs
  9. Oh and the threat of "Don't make me come in there" doesn't appear to work. Conch, i've also tried the swearing technique but to no avail. That technique also didn't work when I was adding the new liverock and the clowns were biting me
  10. So it appears my Blue Tang doesn't like the Purple Firefish. It chases them into their bolthole everytime it sees them. I'm having to try and feed them individually because the Tang is a greedy pig also. Started noticing only 1 of them was coming out, with the other one hiding in the rocks. Starting to get concerned for the little guy so I went out and bought some more liverock to try and create a wall between where they come out and where the Blue Tang hangs out so it cant see them, to try and stop the chasing/bullying. Any other ideas how I can improove the Blue Tangs behaviour? Strangely enough he gets on fine wiht my Red Firefish. Do I need to catch the little Sh*t and put him in a seperate tank for a week, then reintroduce him so he doesn't assume he owns the tank?
  11. I'd imagine its a supply issue
  12. Count me in, I'll do what I can
  13. Seeing that I only ever see my pod activity at night, I wouldn't imagine you'd need much light. Maybe one of those cheap 9W hang on bulbs that just replicate day/night?
  14. Err yeah, Blue Tangs grow to about 12 inches, basically half the size of the tank Thought I'd imagine it'll never get that size due to its environment, and as time goes on, it'll get bigger and more and more stressed until finally it bites the dust many years before it should
  15. Couple of nanostreams or similar powerheads? Return pump? Unless u were going run without a sump? In which case I'd make you think twice. I wish I had made a sump with my 350
  16. Looks good Shame swampy dont live in the South Island. I'd have him making me up a stand if he was!
  17. Having owned a rekord 80 before I wouldn't recommend it for a first marine tank. It would depend on what you planned to keep in it. You'd be limited to 2 fish IMO, and they wouldn't be able to be tangs. The standard Juwel filter system works nothing at all like a skimmer. I've now got one of the Juwel Trigon 350's (I do love the juwel tanks) and I use the filterbox in that for a closed circuit flow pump. I reckon you are best to wait for your 500litre unit. Patience is the key in this side of fish keeping. I know how you feel about being eager to start, but you'll just be throwing money away if you rush into things. Trust me, I wont be the only other one to tell you this
  18. If ur gunna start that arguement chim, then wouldn't the first most important piece of equipment be the tank?
  19. LOL! Is that what that strange thing was that came in the box with the unit?
  20. Which requires a TDS meter, which I dont have, and not sure I want to spend $$$ for a 1 time use. I see a local reseller has one for $69 odd, but as mentioned, is it worth it for 1 use? And how accurate is one that cheap going to be? $69 could go quite a way towards replacing all the filters?
  21. Mine doesn't 0.03 for PO4 I'm jsut concerned that if the filters are stuffed, that it would be worse putting the produced water into the tank than it is to use the tap water? I have considered going back to using tap water along with a heap of PO4 remover, like yourself conch
  22. Thinking I'll spend some coin to replace the cartridges in my RODI unit as I'm unsure of age, and dont have access to a TDS meter to tell me if they're stuffed or not. Wheres the best place to go in CHC to buy them? Will I need to take the old cartridges in? Its a 3 stage filter, RO Prefilter, DI, then RO again (if that makes sense, I'm not too clued up on them). Recently tested the final water product that it produces for PO4 & NO3, and it shows a reading of 0 on both.
  23. Gimmie the cash and I'll organise the import and delivery
  24. So the video is working then? Doesn't seem to work when I click on it. Its a shame the shrimp moved. When I found it, it was sitting right ontop of the powerhead and I watched it do the same thing for a couple of mins before I realised what it was doing and raced to get the camera.
